Start of Tuesday's MIN-CLE game will be delayed due to rain

The start of the matchup between the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night will be delayed due to rain. There’s yet to be any confirmation of an official start time, and the Indians have not committed to a specific timeline for providing further updates. The confirmed late start is better news for the prospects of starting pitchers like Carlos Carrasco not being pulled from their starts early because of a mid-game delay, and as Kevin Roth detailed in the latest update to his MLB weather forecast, this game appears likely to play through following the initial weather stoppage, though a another in-game delay cannot be entirely ruled out.

Matt Kemp

Just Too Cheap

Matt Kemp should be back in the lineup tonight, and this is just a bizarrely low salary for a guy with a 49% hard hit rate, .297 ISO and .389 wOBA against left-handed pitching. Sean Manaea is a good real life pitcher, but with below average strikeouts while allowing a lot of hard contact to righties.

Ehire Adrianza scratched Tuesday; Logan Forsythe replaces

Adrianza has been scratched from the Twins original confirmed lineup and will not start in Tuesday’s matchup against the Cleveland Indians due to a presently unspecified reason. He’ll be replaced in the lineup by Logan Forsythe, who will play second base and slot into the seventh spot in the order, which bumps Mitch Garver down two spots to ninth, respectively. It goes without saying that there have been some noteworthy changes to this Twins order, so be sure to check out the updated lineup on the Starting Lineups page as they face off against right-hander Carlos Carrasco on the road this evening.

Marcus Stroman

8/07/18, 3:36 PM ET

A Remarkably Low DraftKings Price

While scrolling through value SP options on DraftKings, it is somewhat shocking to see Marcus Stroman priced at a mere 4.8K. Compared to his 7.8K price on Fanduel, the $3K discount is a huge pricing disparity between the sites. Obviously, rostering a pitcher in a matchup against the Red Sox is never fun, as the blowup potential is always there against such a potent offense. That said, Stroman has posted 16 or more DK points in three of his last five starts, which would more than pay off his meager DK salary. He also appears to be due for positive regression, having a respectable 3.99 SIERA despite his 5.63 ERA. It is nearly impossible to recommend a pitcher against Boston for cash games, but Stroman makes a very interesting GPP play at presumably low ownership, who would allow you to roster Scherzer and still roster solid bats as well.

Kendrys Morales

Value with Upside at First Base

The Blue Jays are one of my favorite stacking options tonight, as they square off against the struggling Drew Pomeranz. In addition to having a low strikeout rate and a high walk rate, he has allowed a .353 xwOBA to lefties and a .379 xwOBA to righties (with a HR/9 of 2.13). The Blue Jays will load up on right-handed power tonight. The best part is that the full stack is more affordable than most of the teams near the top of the implied run total list tonight. Randal Grichuk, Devon Travis, Kendrys Morales, Teoscar Hernandez, and Russell Martin all bat from the right side and all boast a .330+ xwOBA against southpaws this season.

Right Back to the Stack in Texas

Felix Hernandez has gone through quite the transformation over the last few years. He went from being a pitcher that we avoided all hitters against to a pitcher that we could target lefties against, and finally to a pitcher that struggles against batters from both sides of the plate. On the season, he has given up a .384 xwOBA to lefties and a .352 xwOBA to righties. The Rangers are playing at home in perfect hitting conditions (the ball flies in the heat in Texas) and should be considered one of the top stacks of the slate.

Chase Anderson

Texas Rangers
8/07/18, 3:21 PM ET

Chalky SP2 in Cash Games

Anderson is going to be extremely popular tonight thanks a matchup against the Padres. His numbers on the season aren’t great, but they could certainly be a low worse. In 22 starts, he has a 4.69 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 20%. He’s a fly-ball pitcher that gives up a lot of hard contact, so we shouldn’t be surprised to see that he’s pitched better on the road than he has at home this year (Miller Park definitely favors hitters over pitchers). While everything doesn’t align perfectly for Anderson, he does have a great matchup against the Padres, whose projected lineup has a .289 xwOBA with a strikeout rate of 26% against right-handed pitching this season.

Eric Young

Los Angeles Angels
8/07/18, 3:08 PM ET

Speed To Burn For This Outfielder In Premier Spot

Mike Trout continues to battle his wrist injury, and that’s opened up an opportunity for Eric Young Jr. to join the Angels’ lineup as a cheap punt option. Young has only played seven games with the Angels this season and has yet to swipe a bag, but he’ll face gas-can Jacob Turner in a late-night hammer game. Turner is not great at keeping runners on-base or holding them on. In fact, Turner isn’t great at many things related to pitching. The Angels are a sneaky stack tonight (mmm, sneaky snacks…) and I like EY Jr. if you need some salary relief.

Brandon Dixon

San Diego Padres
8/07/18, 3:02 PM ET

Cheap First Baseman Looking To Take Advantage of Opportunity

With Joey Votto sidelined for at least another day, the Reds are giving Brandon Dixon another start at first base. He’ll hold the platoon-advantage against lefty Jason Vargas, who is allowing a .994 OPS to right-handed batters this season and has allowed 9 of his 12 home runs to that handedness. There’s some industry buzz today about using a cheap Jason Vargas against this watered-down Reds offense and I completely get the argument, but Dixon is a great leverage play as the team’s #2 hitter on Tuesday. I won’t sugar-coat this play – Dixon hasn’t been very impressive so far this season. In the majors, he’s 9-for-51 (.176 average) with just two homers and 17 strikeouts. He did mash six home runs and batted .346 in Triple-A this season through 49 games, however, so the talent is there.

Eugenio Suarez

Cincinnati Reds
8/07/18, 2:44 PM ET

A Power Bat in a Great Matchup

Eugenio Suarez has dominated lefties all season long, and finds himself in a dream matchup against one of the worst pitchers on the slate in Jason Vargas. Suarez has posted a monstrous 1.193 OPS and .326 ISO against southpaws this season. Vargas allows a 36.7% hard contact rate and has the second-lowest GB% on the slate at a mere 35.1%. This is just a situation where one player’s strengths match their opponent’s weaknesses, as Vargas’s fly ball tendencies will likely result in Suarez leaving the yard. On a slate with so many stacks in great spots and the Reds hindered by the absence of Joey Votto, Suarez may go overlooked despite his phenomenal matchup. Fire him up with confidence if you can afford him, as Suarez makes an excellent one-off play tonight against the Mets.

Amed Rosario

New York Yankees
8/07/18, 3:09 PM ET

Cheap Speedy Leadoff Hitter Against Struggling Starter

Amed Rosario isn’t a great player, but he’s cheap across the industry and faces Sal Romano, who is allowing a 36.2% hard hit rate this season. Romano is also striking out only 16.1% of batters, meaning he’s not missing many bats. If Rosario can get on, he can also use his speed to swipe a base. On the season, Rosario is 9-for-14 against right-handed pitching in steals, making him a viable punt option if you need some salary relief.

Starling Marte

Kansas City Royals
8/07/18, 2:34 PM ET

Park Shift

The Pirates get a massive park shift in their favor on Tuesday night as they’ll square off against Chad Bettis in Coors. While Coors is good for power, it’s massive outfield also helps inflate extra base hits which is a boon for aggressive baserunners like Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco. The Pirates will be squaring off against Chad Bettis who will be making his first start since July 1 as he returns from a finger injury that placed him on the DL . Bettis is a below average pitcher with a career 4.46 SIERA, 16.7% strikeout rate and 8.7 SwStr% and will have his hands full on Tuesday night.

Forgotten Team

With Arlington and Coors on Tuesday’s full slate it’s likely that ownership numbers will be low elsewhere – especially on the West Coast where ownership is already typically low. Enter the Angels against the recently recalled Jacob Turner. Turner has struggled mightily during his brief stints in the Majors and he hasn’t seen much success in the Minors either. The biggest downfall with an Angels stack is that their offense simply isn’t very good without Trout in the middle of the order but that still won’t keep me from using power guys like Shohei Ohtani, Juston Upton, and to a lesser extent Kole Calhoun. I like these guys more as one (or two) offs but you can throw in Pujols and Simmons if you’re looking for a full team stack.

Chalky Stack

The Mariners are likely to be one of the chalkier stacks on Tuesday’s slate and rightfully so. Seattle gets a massive park shift in their favor with this game being played in Arlington and they get a great matchup to boot against Bartolo Colon. Bartolo is a stackers dream – a pitcher that not only allows a lot of contact (13.6 K%) but a lot of hard contact (42.3 Hard%). Temperatures are once again expected to be in the high 90’s as Arlington continues to be a hitters haven as the summer progresses.

Nick Pivetta

San Diego Padres
8/07/18, 2:10 PM ET

Play On Talent

While the DBacks did improve their offense at the trade deadline, this Arizona team has struggled versus right handed pitching for most of the year (23.7K%, 87 wRC+). Regardless of the matchup, this is more of a play on Pivetta’s talent (3.22 SIERA) and upside (29.2 K%). Pivetta’s 3.22 SIERA is the third lowest of all pitchers throwing on Tuesday night and his 29.2% strikeout rate is the third highest (behind Scherzer and former reliever Tyler Glasnow). The Diamondbacks implied run total opened at 4.6 and has gradually declined as the day progresses. Pivetta is priced as SP9 on DraftKings and SP6 on FanDuel but you could argue he has a top three ceiling on Tuesday’s slate.
