Brooklyn Nets

Record: 5-13 — Road: 1-10 — Last 10: 4-6

Happy Friday everyone! We have an unusual night of games, as there are usually 10-12 games on Friday night. Even though there are only six games on tap, this is still a very playable slate. The Nets take their 1-10 road record into New York tonight in a battle for state bragging rights. This game features the lowest total on the board at only 191.5 points.

The Knicks are underrated defensively. They play at a very slow pace and on the season they are ranked 11th or better in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, and fantasy points allowed per game. The Nets have an implied team total of 94.3 points, which is the second lowest of the 12 teams in action tonight.

Do you know the kids story of the tortoise and the hare? Well tonight, we have a race between the tortoise and tortoise. The Lopez brothers square off in New York in what should be a fun matchup between brothers. Brook Lopez has been one of the most consistent fantasy options at center this season. His price is more than reasonable on DraftKings at $7,600, however, there are a number of good options at the center position tonight. Given his matchup against the Knicks, I’ll list him as a secondary play tonight. Outside of Lopez, I will be avoiding the Nets tonight. Thaddeus Young draws a difficult matchup against Kristaps Porzingis, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson relies too much on blocks and steals, and Jarrett Jack minutes have been down recently.

New York Knicks

Record: 9-10 — Home: 4-6 — Last 10: 5-5

The Knicks are only 9-10 on the season, but they have played better than most people would have expected them to at the start of the season. They are listed as 5.5-point favorites tonight against the Nets at home. This game lacks fantasy appeal, but with only six games on the schedule, it’s hard to ignore it completely.

The Nets have not been great defensively this season. They are ranked 19th or worse in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, and fantasy points allowed per game. Even in the favorable matchup, the Knicks are still only projected to score 97.3 points.

The two best fantasy options on the Knicks this season have been Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis. How crazy is it that Porzingis is now more expensive than Anthony on DraftKings? While I do like the matchup for Porzingis, there are a number of good plays at power forward tonight. Given his inconsistent minutes, I see him more as a tournament play tonight against the Nets. Anthony’s production has been down a bit this season, but his price has come down to a very playable point. With limited options at small forward, he is a borderline elite play tonight. A word of caution for those of you that like to check game logs. You may find some interest in Arron Afflalo, but his one big outing came in the game that Anthony was out.

Phoenix Suns

Record: 8-11 — Road: 3-6 — Last 10: 3-7

The Suns have not played well on the road this season, sporting a paltry 3-6 record away from home. They are expected to give the Wizards all that they can handle tonight, though. The Suns are listed as one-point underdogs in a game that features a total of 212 points. This should be the fastest-paced game of the night, as the projected pace (which is explained in the NBA First Look is set at 105.7 possessions.

The Wizards’ biggest weakness this season has been on the defensive end of the floor. With Marcin Gortat out tonight, they are going to have a tough time stopping the Suns. On the season, Washington is ranked 20th or worse in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, and fantasy points allowed per game. The Suns have an implied team total of 105.5 points, which is one of the highest on the board tonight.

Tyson Chandler and Markieff Morris both missed Wednesday’s game. Chandler has already been ruled out for tonight’s game, which means Alex Len will draw another start at center. Morris is listed as questionable. If he is unable to play, Jon Leuer and Mirza Teletovic would both see a nice boost. With all of the value in the frontcourt, I don’t mind using two of the three backups if Morris ends up being out. The Suns’ impressive backcourt duo of Brandon Knight and Eric Bledsoe are both in play as well. They are both going to carry the load offensively tonight against the Wizards.

Washington Wizards

Record: 7-9 — Home: 3-5 — Last 10: 4-6

After what looked like a season-changing win against the Cavaliers in Cleveland, the Wizards turned around and lost to the Lakers at home the next night. They have been a tough team to predict, as they clearly haven’t played up to the standards that they have set over the last few seasons. The Wizards are one-point favorites tonight against the Suns in what should be a game filled with fantasy goodness.

The Suns are not the same team with Tyson Chandler out. We have seen teams score at will when Chandler is out, so give the Wizards a small boost as a whole if Chandler is unable to suit up tonight. Regardless, the Wizards are in a good spot tonight at home, as they are projected to score 106.5 points.

The Wizards’ frontcourt may be awfully thin tonight. Marcin Gortat is going to miss the next two games. They could also be without Nene Hilario, Kris Humphries, and Drew Gooden, as they are all listed as questionable. If all three are out, that opens up major minutes for Jared Dudley and Otto Porter. After a rough stretch of games, John Wall has been a fantasy beast in his last two, scoring 60 and 58 fantasy points. He may be my favorite play tonight, as he will have to carry the load offensively again tonight. Bradley Beal is also an elite option against the Suns. I don’t mind using both with all of the injuries to the Wizards.

Milwaukee Bucks

Record: 7-12 — Road: 2-8 — Last 10: 3-7

The Bucks have been one of the biggest disappointments of the season thus far. Luckily, the Rockets have taken some of the attention away from Milwaukee. They are only 2-8 on the road and they have lost seven of their last ten games. They are listed as 6.5-point underdogs tonight against the Pistons in what should be a very slow-paced game.

The Pistons have been very good defensively this season, ranking tenth or better in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, rebounding differential, and fantasy points allowed per game. The Bucks are only projected to score 93.8 points tonight, which is the lowest team total on the board.

At this point, the entire Bucks’ roster should be labeled ‘tournament-only.’ Jason Kidd has one of the most inconsistent rotations in the NBA. I believe Kidd and Scott Skiles have a bet to see which coach can cause the most pain in the daily fantasy community. After receiving a DNP-CD, Jerryd Bayless is expected to return to the lineup. He is my favorite play of this bunch, however, he is a tournament play tonight at point guard.

Detroit Pistons

Record: 10-9 — Home: 6-2 — Last 10: 5-5

The Pistons have been a tough team to beat this season, especially at home. They are looking to improve their home record to 7-2 tonight with a win over the Bucks. The Pistons are listed as 6.5-point favorites in a game that has the second lowest total on the schedule.

The Bucks have been one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA this season. They are ranked 22nd or worse in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, rebounding differential, and fantasy points allowed per game. The Pistons have an implied team total of 100.3 points tonight, which is two points higher than their average points scored this season.

Andre Drummond is the premier play at center tonight. Alex Len obviously offers great value, but it may be worth it to spend up for Drummond (or take both). In his first meeting against the Bucks this season, he had 38 fantasy points in only 24 minutes of action. He should see closer to 35 minutes tonight. Drummond may want to consider shooting his free throws underhand, though. In this last three games, he is 12-46 from the line. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Marcus Morris are both among the league leaders in minutes per game. Both are decent cash game plays. Reggie Jackson is a strong tournament option, although for cash games, I’d rather pay a little more for John Wall.

Los Angeles Lakers

Record: 3-15 — Road: 2-9 — Last 10: 2-8

After losing to the Sixers, the Lakers bounced back with a win over the Wizards in Washington. Sometimes, you just can’t predict what will happen in the NBA. They now head to Atlanta to take on the Hawks. The Lakers are listed as 11.5-point underdogs in a game that has the potential to turn into a blowout.

The Hawks have been surprisingly soft on the defensive end of the floor this season. They are ranked 15th or worse in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, rebounding differential, and fantasy points allowed per game. The Lakers have an implied team total of 95.5 points, which is the third lowest of the 12 teams on the schedule tonight.

Kobe Bryant is coming off of his best game of the season. While I don’t mind all of the Bryant farewell tour media attention, I’m not going to target him in daily fantasy tonight against the Hawks. He draws a difficult matchup against Thabo Sefolosha and as mentioned above, this game could be over by the end of the third quarter. This is a good spot to fade the Lakers altogether.

Atlanta Hawks

Record: 12-9 — Home: 7-4 — Last 10: 4-6

The Hawks have played well at home this season, sporting a 7-4 record. They are expected to have everyone available to play tonight. While this game does have the potential to turn into a blowout, the good news is that the Hawks don’t play again until December 9th. The starters could see a couple extra minutes, even if the game gets out of hand.

In terms of the matchup, there are few more favorable than the Lakers. On the season, Los Angeles is ranked 25th or worse in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, rebounding differential, and fantasy points allowed per game. The Hawks have an implied team total of 107 points, which is the second highest on the board.

The Hawks are in a great spot tonight, although the potential for a blowout does make them risky fantasy options. The safest of the bunch is Paul Millsap. He has been so consistent this season that he is worth a look tonight, even in cash games. Al Horford could be a great tournament play. With everyone looking to Andre Drummond, Brook Lopez, and Alex Len at center, Horford should have a very low ownership in a favorable matchup. Jeff Teague and Thabo Sefolosha are also in play tonight at home, but they are secondary options at their respective positions.

Houston Rockets

Record: 8-11 — Road: 3-4 — Last 10: 4-6

Houston, we have a problem. The Rockets are looking for something (ANYTHING) that can turn their season around. Maybe a win in Dallas can do the trick? The Rockets are listed as 5.5-point underdogs in a game that features a total of 209.5 points.

The Mavericks have been mediocre defensively this season. They are ranked between 11th and 16th in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, and fantasy points allowed per game. The Rockets implied team total of 102 points is right around their average points scored for the season.

Dwight Howard will not play tonight, which opens the door for both Clint Capela and Terrence Jones. As long as Jones draws the start tonight, he will be close to a must-play. He should immediately step in and play around 30 minutes in a very favorable matchup against Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks. Capela is more of a secondary play here. It’s not that he is in a bad spot, there are just better plays at center. James Harden remains an elite play at shooting guard. If the Rockets are going to have any chance tonight, they are going to need another monster game from Harden. Patrick Beverley offers good value at point guard, his minutes continue to trend upward.

Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks have won six of their last ten games and they are 5-2 at home. They are listed as 5.5-point favorites tonight against the visiting Rockets, who have really stumbled in the last couple of weeks.

The Rockets have been one of the worst teams defensively this season. They are ranked 27th or worse in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, and fantasy points allowed per game. With Dwight Howard out, the Mavericks should have no problem scoring tonight at home. Dallas has an implied team total of 107.5 points, which is the highest on the board.

Even though the Mavericks have the highest team total, they may get overlooked tonight. My favorite play here is Wesley Matthews. He has been playing much better recently and his minutes continue to trend upward. As soon as his shot starts to fall, he is going to have plenty nights with 30+ fantasy points. Deron Williams – who my wife calls mini-Boozer – is also in a good spot at home, although he will have to deal with the pesky Patrick Beverley. Dirk Nowitzki and Zaza Pachulia are both secondary options at their respective positions.
