Kenta Maeda

New York Yankees
7/05/16, 6:41 PM ET

Kenta Maeda has a 28.0 K% over the last month, but averages less than six innings per start

Kenta Maeda has a 28.0 K% over the last month against an offense that strikes out 22.3% vs RHP, but it’s also an offense that has a 16.6 HR/FB vs RHP and 41.5 Hard% over the last week. Maeda costs more than $8.5K and averages less than 6 innings per start. This is a very marginal spot. He’s not a pitcher players should really look to attack either, but Hyun-Soo Kim (156 wRC+ vs RHP, 254 wRC+ last seven days) is back in the two spot and a great salary saver on either site for around $3K. Chris Davis (149 wRC+, .324 ISO vs RHP since 2015) is the other bat to look at against a pitcher who has allowed RHBs to hit the ball hard 33.1% of the time on contact.

Friedrich has a 5.29 xFIP, 4.1% K-BB versus RHB this season

The Diamondbacks are one of top teams in the majors versus LHP this year (117 wRC+, .355 wOBA, .195 ISO). Friedrich (4.97 SIERA) has had his struggles with RHB and gets a massive ballpark downgrade heading to Chase Field that won’t correlate well with his 35.0% Hard% allowed to RHB. We can make a case for rostering any of the Diamondbacks right handed batters in this matchup but it is best to stick to the top half of the order for cash games. Wellington Castillo (192 wRC+, .465 wOBA, .338 ISO vs LHP) is the top play in the Diamonbacks lineup given his numbers and the scarcity at the catcher position. Paul Goldschmidt (186 wRC+, .457 wOBA, .211 ISO) and Yasmany Tomas (168 wRC+, .431 wOBA, .324 ISO) have mashed LHP and are great plays tonight has well. Rickie Weeks (151 wRC+, .406 wOBA, .281 ISO) has hit lefties well in a small sample size this season and can be considered in tournaments as he slides into the cleanup spot versus Friedrich.

Castellanos scratched, replaced by Aviles

Nick Castellanos has been scratched with flu-like symptoms and is being replaced by Mike Aviles. This move should have little daily fantasy consequence as they are facing one of tonight’s top arms in Carlos Carrasco.

Zack Godley

7/05/16, 5:37 PM ET

Zack Godley might be a cheap arm ($5.5K) with some upside tonight (21.7 K% in 47 major league innings)

For players looking for a cheap arm with some upside, Zack Godley may be your man. He costs just $5.5K or less and has a 21.7 K% in 47 major league innings, while striking out 24.8% in 24 AAA innings this season. The Padres have been better lately, but still have a 79 wRC+ and 17.3 K-BB% vs RHP. While Wil Myers (131 wRC+, .249 ISO vs RHP this season) seems a formidable bat here, his cost is extremely high. Yangervis Solarte (122 wRC+, .178 ISO vs RHP this season) is a bit cheaper and has a 274 wRC+ over the last week with a 57.9 Hard%. Ryan Schimpft (165 wRC+ last seven days) is the punt IF option.

Carlos Rodon

New York Yankees
7/05/16, 5:31 PM ET

Brian McCann and Jacoby Ellsbury OUT of lineup, Yankees implied run total has decreased 0.5 runs (4.1)

The Yankees don’t strike out a bunch (18.2% K%), but struggle overall against LHP (81 wRC+, .297 wOBA, .128 ISO). The Yankees have gone extremely right handed with their lineup tonight as the take on Carlos Rodon at U.S. Cellular Field. Rodon has had some issues with RHB so far in his career (4.26 xFIP, .353 wOBA) but has not been as terrible as we are led to believe. Rodon’s primary problem has been his control and walking far too many batters, but he has been substantially better at limiting walks so far this season (7.9% BB%). Although the Yankees lineup is almost entirely filled with RHBs tonight, it’s not enough to get off Rodon as a tournament target. The RHBs that replaced McCann and Ellsbury are not anything special and may even be a downgrade from the two lefties. Feel free to fire up Rodon as planned. The only real options in the Yankees lineup if wanting to attack Rodon are Carlos Beltran (158 wRC+, .410 wOBA, .318 ISO vs LHP) and Alex Rodriguez (103 wRC+, .330 wOBA, .211 ISO vs LHP).

Marcus Semien

New York Mets
7/05/16, 5:27 PM ET

Four Oakland RHBs have an ISO above .300 vs LHP this season

RHBs have a .342 wOBA against Tommy Milone since last season. Oakland has eight of those and Valencia, Davis, Semien, and Smolinski all have an ISO above .300 vs LHP this season. All except Davis have a wRC+ above 160 too. The unfortunate part is that Semien is batting 7th instead of 2nd tonight, though he’s still just $2.8K on FanDuel and playable at the SS position on either site and Smolinski costs $4.6K on DraftKings with a risk of being PH for. Billy Butler (141 wRC+ vs LHP this season) costs just $2.9K on DraftKings. While it’s hard to call any RHB here unplayable, justifying $4.7K for Coco Crisp may be a bit extreme and we do have worry about weather. Kevin’s early report had some concerns.

Dallas Keuchel

Athletics
7/05/16, 5:18 PM ET

Dallas Keuchel had an elite 59.8 GB% and strong 16.8 K-BB% in June

Dallas Keuchel had an elite 59.8 GB% and strong 16.8 K-BB% in June. He continues to have an ERA above his estimators because it’s been difficult to turn a lot of those ground balls into outs (.326 BABIP) or strand enough runners (67.0 LOB%). Part of that is his defense (.309 BABIP) as he has a league average 30.9 Hard% and a decent 20.1 LD% this season. He threw one of his best games of the season at home against this Seattle offense (7 IP – 2 R – 8 K) and is certainly a high risk play, but could be poised to do so again with a little more BABIP and LOB% regression. With so many ground balls, it’s difficult to recommend a lot of Seattle bats, but he has allowed 12 HRs to RHBs this season. Nelson Cruz (196 wRC+, .346 ISO vs LHP since 2015) is the obvious choice. He has two HRs in 24 career PAs against Keuchel. Franklin Gutierrez (160 wRC+, .281 ISO vs LHP) runs the risk of being PH hit for, but mitigates that a bit batting 2nd and costing just $3.5K or less. Dae-Ho Lee (124 wRC+, .235 ISO vs LHP) has also shown good power.

Jose Reyes

New York Mets
7/05/16, 5:05 PM ET

Walker sits, Reyes returns against LH Chen (RHBs .345 wOBA, 33 Hard% against since 2015)

The Mets have a 25.6 K% vs LHP, but a 35.5 Hard% at home this season and an 18.8 HR/FB over the last week. Wei-Yin Chen allowed a 44.4 Hard% with eight HRs in June. RHBs have a .345 wOBA and 33 Hard% against him since last season. Leadoff man Jose Reyes returns to the Mets with just an 81 wRC+ vs LHP last season, but costs just $2.9K on DraftKings. Yoenis Cespedes (218 wRC+, .300 ISO) has a 211 wRC+ and 50 Hard% over the last week. He is the top bat here are a reasonable cost of just $4.2K on DraftKings and $1K less on FanDuel. Red hot Wilmer Flores (148 wRC+, .241 ISO vs LHP since 2015) bats cleanup and costs just the minimum on FanDuel. Travis D’Arnaud (187 wRC+, .302 ISO vs LHP since 2015) bats 8th, but has a 219 wRC+ over the last week and is a near min-priced Catcher on FanDuel.

Stephen Piscotty

San Francisco Giants
7/05/16, 4:52 PM ET

Stephen Piscotty has a 199 wRC+ and .264 ISO vs LHP this season

Steven Brault makes his major league debut, but is not even available on the two major sites. The 24 year old former 11th round pick has a 28.2 K% in eight AAA starts this season and is only a middling prospect (Pirates #15 via fangraphs) despite what’s considered a high-upside arm. The Cardinals have struggled with LHPs (90 wRC+) so it may not be the best move to just all out assault the rookie, but Stephen Piscotty has mauled LHP this season (199 wRC+, .264 ISO) and has to be a top OF bat tonight. Matt Carpenter is very expensive, but handles same side pitchers well (143 wRC+, .213 ISO). Both have a wRC+ above 190 and hard hit rate above 60% over the last week. Min-priced bat Tommy Pham (111 wRC+ vs LHP career) bats 7th for players in great need of salary relief.

7/05/16, 4:43 PM ET

Indians implied run total has increased 0.5 runs (5.0), 4th highest run projection on tonight's slate

The Indians offense has started coming back down to earth recently (78 wRC+, .288 wOBA, .140 ISO last 7 days), but are in a great spot tonight versus Anibal Sanchez (4.92 SIERA). Sanchez is making his return to the rotation tonight in place of Jordan Zimmermann so he shouldn’t be stretched out enough to go deep in this game. That means if the Indians are unable to get to Sanchez, they will get plenty of looks at Detroit’s horrendous bullpen. Sanchez is allowing 1.94 HR/9, so we want to focus in on the Indians batters with some pop but a full Indians stack is not out of the question in tournaments. Carlos Santana (141 wRC+, .382 wOBA, .287 ISO vs RHP) and Jason Kipnis (120 wRC+, .352 wOBA, .208 ISO vs RHP) are the top plays in the Indians lineup batting 1-2 at the top of of the order. Francisco Lindor (117 wRC+, .348 wOBA, .161 ISO vs RHP) is definitely in consideration if paying up at the SS position. Everyone’s favorite 8-hole hitter, Tyler Naquin (149 wRC+, .395 wOBA, .244 ISO vs RHP), is great way to differentiate Indians stacks in tournaments, but we can only dream that Terry Francona eventually wakes up and moves this kid up in the order. #FreeTylerNaquin

Steven Matz

Hechavarria leads off as Marlins go almost entirely RH against Matz

Steven Matz has stopped using his slider over the last month, likey due to the discomfort it causes with the bone spurs in his elbow. While this has led to harder contact (35.2%) and a reduced GB rate (48.2%) in June with four HRs over his last three starts, he’s still throwing just as hard and has an increased 11.3 SwStr% over the last 30 days. While this makes him a higher risk, the upside is still there and the Marlins having only one LH batter in the lineup may not even mean much (.290 wOBA allowed to RHBs career). Tonight’s leadoff hitter, Adeiny Hechavarria has just a 49 wRC+ vs LHP this season, but costs just $2.1K on FanDuel. The other value here would be lefty masher Marcell Ozuna (215 wRC+, .406 ISO vs LHP), who has just a 52 wRC+ over the last week, but costs less than $3K on FanDuel. Giancarlo Stanton (161 wRC+. 414 ISO vs LHP since 2015) is the other major power threat here, but is less of a bargain.

Gio Gonzalez

Chicago White Sox
7/05/16, 4:23 PM ET

Gio Gonzalez has a 28.1 K% over the last month and Brewers strike out 23.9% vs LHP

Gio Gonzalez had a 6.83 ERA in June, but estimators more than three runs lower with a 28.1 K% and 11.9 SwStr%. He’s walked four in four of his last eight starts and control might be an issue tonight as the Brewers have a surprising 11.3 BB% vs LHP, but they’ve also surprisingly had just average power (12.2 HR/FB) with a 23.9 K% against southpaws, making Gonzalez an excellent high upside play tonight, who may be under-owned due to his high ERA recently. While we can’t promise it will be tonight, a strong bounce back looks to be in his estimators with an increased strikeout rate that should really benefit him in a great spot tonight for just $7.7K on DraftKings. Ryan Braun (164 wRC+, .241 ISO vs RHP since 2015) is the only well above average Milwaukee bat against LHP or even over the last week as the team has slumped, but he costs near $5K on Drafktings, $4K on FanDuel.

Brian Dozier

New York Mets
7/05/16, 4:11 PM ET

Sean Manaea allowing 1.55 HR/9 to RHBs, Twins implied to score 4.7 runs

Manaea is seemingly starting to settle in to pitching in the big leagues as he’s pitched better over the last month. However, he is still having massive problems with RHBs (5.23 xFIP, .375 wOBA) while surrendering too much hard contact (34.8% Hard%). A matchup against the righty-loaded Twins lineup at Target Field does not set up well for Manaea. This means the entire top of the Twins order are in play tonight as elite options on this slate. Brian Dozier (203 wRC+, .477 wOBA, .371 ISO vs LHP) is really pricey on DraftKings but is probably the top option at 2B on FanDuel. Robbie Grossman (187 wRC+, .452 wOBA, .255 ISO vs LHP) and Miguel Sano (186 wRC+, .452 wOBA, .333 ISO vs LHP) are great plays on both sites and have mashed lefties in limited plate appearances this season. Eduardo Nunez (133 wRC+, .373 wOBA, .260 ISO vs LHP) is in the midst of a breakout season and needs to be included in any Twins stack.

C.J. Cron

Los Angeles Angels
7/05/16, 4:10 PM ET

Mike Trout OUT against Odorizzi in Tampa Bay tonight

While Mike Trout’s absence will give Jake Odorizzi an overall bump, his 18.1 K% vs RHP this season is actually a bit higher than the Angels in total vs RHP (15.6%), leaving little upside for an average pitcher here. Though he has a 29.0 K% over the last month, his 9.8 SwStr% suggests that won’t last. His ERA and estimators are all around four this year. RHBs (.331 wOBA) hit him better than LHBs (.271 wOBA) and the Angels have three red hot ones (200+ wRC+ last seven days) at the top of the lineup, including C.J. Cron (119 wRC+, .197 ISO vs RHP since 2015) and Yunel Escobar (116 wRC+ vs RHP since 2015), who both cost just $2.8K on FanDuel.
