Final British Open Field Set
Bryson DeChambeau started the final round of the John Deere Classic four shots behind the leader Patrick Rodgers. DeChambeau spectacular back-nine 30 earned him not only his first PGA tour victory, but the win also punched his ticket to this week’s British Open. With the field finally set, the R&A released the first and second round pairings for this week’s open. DraftKings has updated it’s player’s pool to represent the most accurate field information. DeChambeau will look to become the first player to win the British Open and the John Deere Classic in the same year.
As reported by: British OpenKevin Roth's official weather report for The John Deere Classic
RotoGrinders own chief meteorologist Kevin Roth released his weather forecast for this week’s John Deere Classic, and pre tournament rain could impact play. It appears that the already wet TPC Deere Run will receive more rain prior to Thursday’s opening round. Roth predicts that isolated showers could carry into Thursday’s opening round, but as the day progresses the chance of rain decreases. The weather forecast for the remaining three days will feature light winds and no rain. While it does appear that weather will give an predictable advantage to either tee time draw, the wet conditions should lead to even more birdies than normal at TPC Deere Run. Targeting birdie makers is always a great strategy for The John Deere Classic, and the wet conditions could provide an opportunity for players who struggle with accuracy off the tee to hit a few more fairways and potentially make a few more birdies.
As reported by: Kevin RothDaniel Berger flying under the radar
The week prior to a major always provides it’s own unique set of issues. Gamers will not only have to figure how to handicap a water downed field, but they will also have to try and make a judgment call on how bigger named players will handle the week prior to the year’s third major. Many of the exempt players in next week’s British Open carry a high price tag for the John Deere Classic. Due to the high price of these players, and the uncertainty of how players approach the week, many in the DFS community will look to build rosters using a balanced method. The lack of interest in players at the top of the pricing chain creates a unique opportunity to grab a talented player in a potentially low owned spot. Daniel Berger finds himself in the unusual spot of being the highest priced DraftKings golfer this week. The balanced lineup building philosophy has driven the ownership projection down to a very low level for Berger. Taking down a big GPP is often about picking the right spot to go against the grain, and picking Berger represents a perfect opportunity to make this type of play. Berger already has one win this season, and he very well could of had his second if Jordan Spieth had not chipped in during a playoff. Berger has all of the physical skills to play well this week, and his low ownership provides an interesting spot to differentiate your rosters for large field GPP’s.
As reported by: RotoGrinders Projected OwnershipKevin Streelman projects as a top play on FanDuel
The RotoGrinders DraftKings players projections have Kevin Streelman ranked as one the top picks in terms of PT/$K for this week’s John Deere Classic. Streelman has posted five consecutive top 30 or better finishes, and he enters this week’s John Deere needing a top 4 finish in order to play in the year’s third major. Currently ranked in the 69th position in the FedEx Cup standings, Streelman is another player who stands to benefit from playing well in a weaker field event. Streelman has mixed results in his six previous tries at the John Deere Classic. If current form is any indicator of predicting play, then Streelman is in a good position to post his third career top ten at the John Deere Classic.
As reported by: RotoGrinders Player ProjectionsTony Finau gains entry into the British Open
Former British Open Champion Ben Curtis has withdrawn from next week’s British Open. Curtis is still recovering from a shoulder injury that has seen him only make two starts since November of 2016. Finau will play in his first major of the season, and he will look to continue his solid play on one of golf’s biggest stages. DraftKings released it’s millionaire maker pricing this week, and they should add Finau to the pool early next week.
As reported by: The Golf ChannelZach Johnson is trending towards high onwerhsip
Zach Johnson seems to play his best golf at the John Deere Classic. In addition to his win in 2012, this two time major champion has five other top 10 finishes. Johnson is looking to fall back on his course knowledge to make his 10th straight cut at the John Deere. The major concern with picking Johnson is that he has really struggled to find any constancy to his game this season. Johnson is a horse for this course, and in the last five years he has a scoring average of 66.7. Johnson has played in the tournament for 15 straight years, and during that time he only played six over par rounds of golf. The lack of great talent in the field combined with his excellent course history will make Johnson one of the more popular plays for the John Deere Classic. Fading the most popular player can often be a great way to differentiate your lineups, but Johnson’s excellent course history should provide a strong argument against such an action.
As reported by: RotoGrinders Projected OwnershipFabian Gomez is no longer in The John Deere Classic
Fabian Gomez has withdrawn from this week’s John Deere Classic. The reason behind his withdrawal is not yet known, and Gomez’s poor form this season should have him off the radar of most in the DFS community. Brendan Todd will take his place in the tournament, but his late entry into the field will prevent him from having a price for this week’s DFS slate.
As reported by: Rob Bolton TwitterGolf Projections are live and Chad Campbell projects to be a top play on DraftKings
The RotoGrinders DraftKings players projections have Chad Campbell ranked as one the top picks in terms of PT/$K for this week’s John Deere Classic. Campbell has four career PGA tour victories to his name, but unfortunately his last win came almost 10 years ago. Campbell has always been known as a great ball striker and a streaky putter. With three top 15 or better finishes in his last five events, Campbell looks to have positive momentum on his side. Campbell has played in the John Deere Classic 9 times and he has one top ten finish to go along with a perfect cut record. Campbell’s closing rounds of 65-67 helped him finish inside the top ten last week at the Greenbrier Classic. Currently ranked 76 in the FedEx Cup standings, Campbell needs to take advantage of his current good form if he plans to make a deep run in this year’s FedEx race.
As reported by: RotoGrinders Player ProjectionsRyan Moore returns from injury to defend his title
Ryan Moore’s 2016 season was a memorable one. This PGA tour veteran used a late FedEx cup run to propel him to his first Ryder Cup Team. Moore’s FedEx run was helped largely by his win at last year’s John Deere Classic. Four rounds of 68 or better gave Moore his 5th career victory. This year’s John Deere Classic will be Moore’s first event in over an month. The defending John Deere Champion was forced to withdraw ahead of this year’s U.S. Open to rest a sore shoulder. In the month prior to his injury Moore had struggled to find any consistent form. During that time he only had one round under par. Injury comebacks are always a hard thing to gauge, and his inflated price should make a strong case for taking a wait-and-see approach on Moore.
As reported by: RotoGrindersKevin Roth's official weather report for The Greenbrier Classic
RotoGrinders own chief meteorologist Kevin Roth released his weather forecast for this week’s Greenbrier Classic, and it looks like rain may play a role in the tournament. Roth predicts that rain will have an bigger impact on the week than wind. Rain is forecasted to hit during the the afternoon wave on Thursday, and the chance of parcipitation could potentially linger into the early wave on Friday morning. Based on current weather models it looks like the best way for golfers to stay dry is by playing in the early Thursday/ late Friday tee time draw. Roth is quick to point out that rain can be fickle, but for now it the best chance to gain edge by using weather is to lean more towards the favored tee time wave.
As reported by: Kevin RothGraham DeLaet projects as a top value play on FanDuel
The RotoGrinders FanDuel players projections have Graham Delaet ranked as one the top picks in terms of PT/$K for this week’s Greenbrier Classic. Delaet should be considered a top candidate for the title of best players yet to win a PGA tour event. This Canadian-born golfer has 4 international victories to his name, but has yet to win on U.S. soil. Delaet’s 8 top 25 or better finishes have him positioned to make a deep run in this year’s FedEx Cup race. In four attempts at The Greenbrier Classic Delaet has four made cuts and one top 15 finish, and his very reasonable price of $6,700 should make him one of the more popular FandDuel plays.
As reported by: RotoGrinders Player ProjectionsDavid Lingmerth looks to remain hot
Lingmerth’s one career PGA Tour victory came at the 2015 Memorial tournament. Like many other first-time PGA Tour winners, Lingmerth experienced a small slump in his game. Downswings don’t last forever and Lingmerth appears to have found a bit of good recent form. Lingmerth was a good final round away from winning last week’s Quicken Loans Invitational, and he looks to build on the momentum gained during last weeks tournament. Three top 15 finishes in his last five starts have Lingmerth’s price higher than normal on DraftKings. Lingmerth’s $7,600 price tag on FanDuel offers a big savings in comparison to his $10,000 price on DraftKings, and if you have the availability to play on multiple sites, then Lingmerth discount on FanDuel makes him a very intriguing play.
As reported by: RotoGrindersTony Finau is trending as the top owned player
The Rotogrinders Projection ownerships have been updated and Tony Finau is currently listed as the highest owned player in the field this week. Finau is preparing to make another deep run into the season end FedEx Cup race. Propelled by his 8 top 25 finishes, Finau currently sits in the 31st position on the FedEx Cup points list. Finau’s steady play has quickly made him a fan favorite among the DFS community. In his last four tournaments Finau has an average ownership level of 21%, and his average finish position of 22.5 has done little to deter his popularity. Normally you can look to gain an edge by fading the highest owned golfer, but Finau is simply playing too well to overlook. Four of his eight top 25 finishes have been inside the top ten, giving Finau more than enough upside to pay off his salary.
As reported by: RotoGrinders Projected OwnershipStewart Cink projects as a top value play
The RotoGrinders DraftKings players projections have Stewart Cink ranked as the top play in terms of PT/$K. This former British Open Champion is on pace to have his best season in almost 8 years. Cink has nine top 25 finishes this season and has played his way in to contention on the weekend on a few different occasions. Using his wife’s battle with cancer as a motivation, Cink has rededicated himself to golf, and he appears close to claiming the seventh victory of his career. Cink has consistently outperformed his price this season, and at $6,900 he offers a great value for The Greenbrier Classic.
As reported by: RotoGrinders Player ProjectionsBubba Watson looks to use good course history to gain momentum
The 2016 Ryder Cup had it’s fair share of reviving story lines. For the first time in over eight years the United States team claimed victory in one of golf’s greatest traditions. Notably missing from the 2016 team was three time Ryder Cup participant Bubba Watson. The two time major winner barley missed making the team, and Davis Love III decided to go in a different direction when making his captains picks. Watson chose to go along with the team as a special assistant captain, and his energy and support helped provide a spark to the U.S. team. Not making the Ryder Cup team appears to have impacted Watson’s game in a negative way. This once top ten ranked player in the world has struggled to find any consistent form this season. In 13 events this year Watson has missed more cuts than he made, and he only has two top 10 or better finishes in terms of DraftKings scoring. Watson is in the field for this week’s Greenbrier Classic and he will look to build on past course success in order to turn his season around. In three attempts at the Greenbrier Watson has three top 30 or better finishes, and owns a very impressive 68.1 scoring average. An elevated price on Watson could deflate his ownership for The Greenbrier Classic, and his past history makes him an excellent tournament option.
