Mike Pelfrey : FD: $5,500 — DK: $5,100
Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 142.0 — SIERA: 4.93 — ERA: 4.37 — K%: 10.6% — BB%: 8.7% — HR/9: 0.8
Last 30 Days: IP: 27.0 — SIERA: 4.34 — ERA: 2.67 — K%: 10.2% — BB%: 3.7% — HR/9: 0.7
Cleveland Indians Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.304 (Rank: 22) — Strikeout Rate: 19.2% (Rank: 11)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.291 (Rank: 23) — Strikeout Rate: 23.7% (Rank: 26)
Pitchers per PA: 3.91 (Rank: 3)
Analysis: Pelfrey may have a 2.67 ERA over the last month of play, but that’s about all he has going in his favor. Over the last two seasons, he has a 4.93 SIERA with a very low strikeout rate of 10.6%. He isn’t effective against hitters from either side of the plate and the Indians have quite a few talented bats in their lineup. Pelfrey can be avoided in all league formats tonight.
Pitcher Rating:28.8
Cody Anderson : FD: $6,600 — DK: $5,500
Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 45.1 — SIERA: 4.64 — ERA: 3.38 — K%: 10.1% — BB%: 3.9% — HR/9: 1.2
Last 30 Days: IP: 21.2 — SIERA: 5.21 — ERA: 6.23 — K%: 8.4% — BB%: 6.3% — HR/9: 2.1
Minnesota Twins Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.298 (Rank: 24) — Strikeout Rate: 20.8% (Rank: 22)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.288 (Rank: 24) — Strikeout Rate: 21.3% (Rank: 16)
Pitchers per PA: 3.79 (Rank: 15)
Analysis: A few starts ago, I mentioned that it was only a matter of time before regression caught up to Anderson. It didn’t take long, as his ERA over the last month of play is at 6.23. He has a very low strikeout rate, which makes it tough, as opponents get a lot of good contact against him. There is not enough upside with Anderson tonight against the Twins.
Pitcher Rating:38.4
Batter Grind Down
Minnesota
The Twins draw a favorable matchup against Cody Anderson, who has not pitched well over the last month of play. The Twins strike out at a high rate as a team, but that shouldn’t be an issue against Anderson, who has one of the lowest strikeout rates in baseball.

Cleveland
The Indians have a bad habit of letting us down when they are in favorable matchups, but it’s hard to pass on them tonight against Mike Pelfrey, who has given up a .322+ wOBA to both left and right-handed hitters over the last two seasons.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.356 (Rank: 5) — Strikeout Rate: 21.4% (Rank: 17)
Pitchers per PA: 3.86 (Rank: 9)
Analysis: deGrom has been terrific over the last month of play, posting a 2.19 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 33.0%. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Rays, who are ranked 26th in team wOBA and 27th in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. The biggest issue here is run support, as the Rays have their ace on the mound tonight in Jake Odorizzi. DeGrom deserves consideration in all league formats, but there may be safer plays on single-pitcher sites.
Pitcher Rating:81.2
Jake Odorizzi : FD: $8,600 — DK: $9,000
Pitching Stats:

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.320 (Rank: 13) — Strikeout Rate: 23.0% (Rank: 24)
Pitchers per PA: 3.88 (Rank: 5)
Analysis: Odorizzi has not been very sharp since coming back from injury, but I get the feeling that he is in for a big outing tonight. He has had terrific splits at home throughout his career and he draws a favorable matchup against the Mets, who are ranked 28th in team wOBA and 17th in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. I always like to buy low on players and tonight is a great opportunity to buy low on Odorizzi.

NY Mets
I fully expect this game to be a pitcher’s duel and from the looks of it, so does Vegas. The total for the game is set at only 6.5 runs. The Mets have been decent offensively over the last two weeks, but they are still one of the worst offenses in baseball. They can be avoided tonight against Jake Odorizzi.

Tampa Bay
The Rays draw one of the toughest matchups on the board, as they square off against Jacob deGrom, who has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .275 wOBA. The Rays’ offense can safely be avoided tonight.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.267 (Rank: 28) — Strikeout Rate: 15.6% (Rank: 2)
Pitchers per PA: 3.78 (Rank: 20)
Analysis: Ferdinandez (it sounds cooler) has been terrific over the last month of play, posting a 2.60 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 32.5%. While that’s all good and well, I’m most excited by the fact that he threw 112 pitches in his last start. The Braves may not strikeout at a high rate, but Ferdinandez should be able to mow through this lineup and pick up close to a strikeout per inning. He is the second-highest rated pitcher on the board tonight.

Pitchers per PA: 3.72 (Rank: 27)
Analysis: Teheran has some of the most glaring home/road splits that you are going to find. The good news is that he is pitching at home tonight. The bad news is that he may see no run support with Jose Fernandez pitching opposite him. Teheran does deserve a look in tournaments though, as the Marlins have the lowest team wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. He’s shown the ability to go toe-to-toe with elite pitchers when he is at home.

Miami
The Marlins draw a mediocre matchup tonight against Julio Teheran. If this game was being played in Miami, I would like their offense more, but as mentioned above, Teheran has really pitched well at home. The left-handed hitters in this lineup are secondary plays tonight.

Jose Fernandez is good, and I mean really good. He has an elite strikeout rate and he has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .270 wOBA in his career. I shouldn’t have to tell you this, I will anyway. The Braves are not good fantasy options tonight.

Analysis: Danks takes the mound tonight for the White Sox. While he has been better recently, he will not be a recommended fantasy option anytime soon. Since the start of the 2014 season, he owns a 4.56 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 15.6%. To make matters worse, he draws one of the worst pitching matchups on the board. The Royals have the lowest strikeout rate of any team in baseball and they are more than capable of hitting southpaws.

Pitchers per PA: 3.78 (Rank: 19)
Analysis: Volquez is another pitcher whose ERA is much lower than his recent SIERA. That suggests some regression will likely be in store for him soon. It could come tonight against the White Sox, who are ranked second in team wOBA over the last 14 days of play. I like Volquez’s chances to pick up a win tonight, but he will likely give up a couple of runs in the process. Given his limited strikeout potential, I’m looking elsewhere at pitcher.

Chicago White Sox
The White Sox draw a mediocre matchup tonight against Edinson Volquez. While he gives up equal splits to left and right-handed hitters, the White Sox have to face him in one of the most pitcher-friendly ballparks in the American League. Jose Abreu, Melky Cabrera, and Adam Eaton have all been swinging hot bats recently, but they are secondary plays tonight.

John Danks is one of my favorite pitchers to target hitters against for the simple fact that he has given up a .363 wOBA to right-handed hitters over the last two seasons. Basically, if you can hit from the right side of the plate, there is a decent chance that you will have some success against Danks. All kinds of stacks are welcome tonight against Danks (three-man, four-man, etc.)

Analysis: Lynn has pitched well in his recent starts, posting a 3.36 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 25.6%. He generates a lot of swings and misses, which is a bit strange for a guy that throws primarily fastballs that top out at about 92-93 MPH. Lynn draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Brewers, whose offense has gone cold ever since trading Gerardo Parra and Carlos Gomez. I wish he was facing them in St. Louis, but Lynn is still in play even though the game will be played in Miller Park.

Analysis: Cravy has pitched a total of 15 major league innings. In 17 starts at the Triple-A level, he posted a 3.97 FIP with a strikeout rate of 18.8%. He’s worth keeping an eye on moving forward, but he’s an easy avoid tonight against the Cardinals, who are ranked 11th in team wOBA and eighth in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season.

St. Louis
The Cardinals see a generous ballpark boost tonight playing in the hitter-friendly Miller Park. They also draw a nice matchup against the inexperienced Tyler Cravy. The left-handed hitters are the preferred targets in this matchup, but don’t count out the right-handed bats of Jhonny Peralta and Stephen Piscotty.

Milwaukee
The Brewers have not fared well recently. They seem to be counting down the days until the end of the season. They draw a tough matchup tonight against Lance Lynn, who is a quality right-handed pitcher. If you are targeting any hitters in this matchup, target the ones that can hit from the left side of the plate.
