Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.342 (Rank: 5) — Strikeout Rate: 19.4% (Rank: 11)
Pitchers per PA: 3.90 (Rank: 5)
Analysis: Verlander is making his second start of the season, after giving up two earned runs in five innings of work in his first outing. It’s going to take a few starts before we can really judge where his form is and for that reason, I will take a wait and see approach with him. He can safely be avoided tonight against a Yankees offense that is ranked fourth or better in wOBA against right-handed pitching, wOBA over the last 14 days, and pitches per plate appearance.
Pitcher Rating:42.1
Adam Warren : FD: $6,700 — DK: $5,100
Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 147.2 — SIERA: 3.78 — K%: 19.6% — BB%: 8.1% — FB Rate: 33.3% — HR/FB: 8.5%

Detroit Tigers Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.322 (Rank: 8) — Strikeout Rate: 19.0% (Rank: 9)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.340 (Rank: 6) — Strikeout Rate: 20.3% (Rank: 14)
Pitchers per PA: 3.84 (Rank: 9)
Analysis: Warren hasn’t had great success as a starter. Over the last month of play, he has a 4.66 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 16.1%. His strikeout rate has understandably taken a hit, as it’s much easier to face a few batters out of the bullpen than it is facing an entire lineup. He draws a difficult matchup tonight against the Tigers, who are ranked ninth or better in wOBA, strikeout rate, and pitches per plate appearance this season.

Last 14 Days: PA: 48 — wOBA: 0.519 — ISO: 0.359 — wRC+: 242
Analysis: When Cabrera gets rolling, it’s like a snowball tumbling down a mountain. In other words, he is very difficult to slow down. He has a .519 wOBA and a .359 ISO over the last 14 days. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against Adam Warren, who is a reverse-splits pitcher that has given up a much higher wOBA to right-handed hitters. Even though Cabrera hits from the right side, he has great power the opposite way, which brings the short porch in right into play.

Last 14 Days: PA: 49 — wOBA: 0.407 — ISO: 0.132 — wRC+: 163
Analysis: Both pitchers in this matchup have reverse-splits. Since the start of last season, Justin Verlander has given up a .370 wOBA to right-handed hitters. That bodes well for Alex Rodriguez, who has actually been very good against right-handed pitching this season, posting a .396 wOBA and a .230 ISO. The left-handed hitters on the Yankees are also in play, but I’ll side with the splits and say that Rodriguez is the top target against Verlander.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.323 (Rank: 10) — Strikeout Rate: 17.9% (Rank: 4)
Pitchers per PA: 3.74 (Rank: 23)
Analysis: Burnett has been very sharp this season, particularly over the last month of play. During that stretch, he has a 2.79 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 22.8%. His matchup against the Nationals may not appear favorable on paper, but they are going to be without Bryce Harper tonight, which is a huge blow to their entire offense. His absence alone gives Burnett a boost, as the only dangerous left-handed hitter in the lineup now is Denard Span. With all of the aces on the mound tonight, Burnett will fly under the radar, making him a nice contrarian play.
Pitcher Rating:72.6
Joe Ross : FD: $5,000 — DK: $5,000

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.308 (Rank: 15) — Strikeout Rate: 20.3% (Rank: 14)
Pitchers per PA: 3.79 (Rank: 15)
Analysis: Ross is making his third career start. He is the younger brother of Tyson Ross and after his last outing, it appears that he has similar strikeout potential. Ross struck out eight batters in eight innings of work against the Brewers. He is still unproven at the major league level and there are still question marks surrounding him, but the upside is there. He makes an appealing tournament target tonight against the Pirates, who are below the major league average in wOBA against right-handed pitching.

Last 14 Days: PA: 47 — wOBA: 0.344 — ISO: 0.100 — wRC+: 121
Analysis: Kang continues to impress in his rookie season with the Pirates. While he has considerably better numbers against left-handed pitching, he will remain one of the better value plays as long as he is batting clean-up. As mentioned above, Joe Ross is still unproven at the major league level and you’ll be hard-pressed to find another shortstop batting clean-up at Kang’s price point.

With Bryce Harper expected to miss some time with his hamstring injury, the Nationals’ lineup seriously lacks power. Denard Span deserves consideration here, but the rest of the Nationals can be avoided against A.J. Burnett.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.275 (Rank: 28) — Strikeout Rate: 19.7% (Rank: 12)
Pitchers per PA: 3.72 (Rank: 26)
Analysis: Lyons has pitched well in the majors when given the chance. Since the start of 2014, he has a 3.22 SIERA with an impressive strikeout rate of 24.8%. He typically doesn’t pitch very deep into games, but he can give you six or seven quality innings in the right matchup. Speaking of right matchups, there are few better than the Phillies, who are ranked 22nd in wOBA against left-handed pitching and 28th in wOBA over the last 14 days. He’s not the best cash game play, but he can be targeted in tournaments or as a cheap SP2 on multi-pitcher sites.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.284 (Rank: 26) — Strikeout Rate: 21.7% (Rank: 22)
Pitchers per PA: 3.75 (Rank: 21)
Analysis: Aumont will make a spot start for the Phillies tonight. This will be his first major league start, after a less than stellar career in the minor leagues. He has had good strikeout numbers, but the risk is too great to target him in cash games. He is one of the largest underdogs on the board and he should be avoided tonight against the Cardinals.

Analysis: It’s always hard to predict what is going to happen in a pitcher’s major league debut, but I’m going to trust Vegas on this one. They have the Cardinals set with one of the highest team totals on the board tonight. A Cardinals’ stack is certainly in play here, although they do lack the power that we typically like to see in a stack. Carpenter is in play in cash games as well, as his price is discounted on both FanDuel and DraftKings.

Analysis: While Tyler Lyons has pitched well in the majors, he has still had his struggles against right-handed hitters. Over the past two seasons, he has given up a .347 wOBA to batters that hit from the right side of the plate. Franco is a good value play at third base, as he has been swinging a hot bat over the last two weeks with a .420 wOBA and a .271 ISO. He’s really the only Phillies’ hitter that should be on your radar tonight.

Analysis: Wright is a low-strikeout pitcher that draws one of the worst matchups on the board. He has to face one of the best offenses in baseball and he has to face them in their own backyard. The Blue Jays are ranked third in wOBA against right-handed pitching and first in wOBA over the last 14 days of play. Wright should not be on your radar tonight in a game that has one of the highest run totals on the board.

Since the start of last season, nearly half of balls put in play against him were fly balls, with 12.6% of those fly balls going for home runs. Tonight he faces an Orioles’ offense that has been hitting home runs left and right in recent weeks. See what I’m getting at here?

Analysis: Like the rest of the Orioles’ offense, Machado has been on fire over the last two weeks. During that stretch, he has a .505 wOBA with an ISO of .365. He seems to hit another home run every time there is a right-handed pitcher on the mound. His price on FanDuel and DraftKings is still at a very playable level. He should be able to keep his hot streak alive tonight against Marco Estrada, who is a fly-ball pitcher with an above average HR/FB rate. It could be bombs away for the Orioles’ bats again tonight.

The Blue Jays are small favorites in a game that features a total of 9.0 runs. 2014 – 2015: IP: 267.0 — SIERA: 3.85 — K%: 18.5% — BB%: 4.7% — FB Rate: 41.9% — HR/FB: 11.7%
Last 30 Days: IP: 31.2 — SIERA: 4.15 — K%: 19.8% — BB%: 6.4% — FB Rate: 51.1% — HR/FB: 11.1%
Cincinnati Reds Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.309 (Rank: 18) — Strikeout Rate: 18.8% (Rank: 7)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.328 (Rank: 8) — Strikeout Rate: 21.3% (Rank: 19)
Pitchers per PA: 3.73 (Rank: 25)
Analysis: Haren is another pitcher that gives up a lot of home runs. He can usually be targeted in big ballparks, but he should be avoided in smaller ones that yield a lot of home runs such as Great American Ballpark. The Reds offense is trending in the right direction and I have very little interest in Haren tonight, both for cash game and tournament purposes.

Mike Leake : FD: $6,600 — DK: $6,800
Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 297.0 — SIERA: 3.69 — K%: 17.0% — BB%: 5.9% — FB Rate: 25.9% — HR/FB: 14.9%

Miami Marlins Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.294 (Rank: 24) — Strikeout Rate: 20.6% (Rank: 21)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.321 (Rank: 11) — Strikeout Rate: 19.1% (Rank: 9)
Pitchers per PA: 3.72 (Rank: 27)
Analysis: Leake has had a very low strikeout rate this season, which is a big red flag in daily fantasy baseball. His SIERA is also worse than it was in 2014. Until he can string together a few quality starts in a row, he can continue to be avoided in all league formats.

Christian Yelich : FD: $3,000 — DK: $4,200
Position Eligibility: FD: OF — DK: OF
2014-15 vs. RH Pitching: PA: 652 — wOBA: 0.324 — ISO: 0.111 — wRC+: 105
Last 14 Days: PA: 59 — wOBA: 0.340 — ISO: 0.170 — wRC+: 115
Analysis: Yelich has played well over the last few weeks and he is a dual speed/power threat, which always boosts a player’s fantasy appeal. Yelich also draws a favorable matchup against Mike Leake, who has given up a .349 wOBA to left-handed hitters over the past two seasons. He also sees a ballpark boost tonight playing in the hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark.

Position Eligibility: FD: 3B — DK: 1B/3B
2014-15 vs. RH Pitching: PA: 720 — wOBA: 0.374 — ISO: 0.229 — wRC+: 138
Last 14 Days: PA: 58 — wOBA: 0.517 — ISO: 0.446 — wRC+: 234
Analysis: Todd Frazier was one of my favorite plays at third base last night, but unfortunately, the game was postponed due to bad weather. No worries though, as he draws another favorable matchup tonight against Dan Haren, who gives up a lot of home runs. Frazier is expensive, but he may be worth it, as he has been red-hot over the last two weeks with a .374 wOBA and a .229 ISO.
