Pitcher Grind Down

Tom Koehler

Atlanta Braves vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.301 (Rank: 23)
Strikeout Rate: 17.1% (Rank: 3)

Koehler has been an average real life starter for the Marlins as he has posted a 4.34 SIERA and 17.5% strikeout over his 20 starts in 2015. While this would not be good enough to focus on usually, tonight he does have a decent matchup against the Braves. His upside is not exactly high, but the lack of pitching options and the fact that the Braves are the opponent tonight without Freeman puts him into consideration, just don’t expect a huge performance.. Rating = 5.5

Salaries: $7,000 FD, $7,500 DK

Mike Foltynewicz

Miami Marlins vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.286 (Rank: 30)
Strikeout Rate: 19.9% (Rank: 16)

Folty brings a decent strikeout rate (20.1%) that should continue going forward. His biggest problem so far has been his 1.89 HR/9 rate that he has allowed over his 14 appearances this year, including six in his last two starts. If he can figure out how to keep the ball in the park, he does have some upside, but there is a lot of risk associated with it at this point. Rating = 5

Salaries: $5,900 FD, $5,000 DK

Batter Grind Down

Miami

Folty has allowed 14 home runs (1.89 HR/9) in his 11 starts this season. He is also allowing lefties a wOBA of .422 on the year, which puts a few of the Marlins bats into play tonight.

I expect Koehler to have a decent outing, but some of the Braves’ lefties could deserve a look at Koehler has allowed a wOBA of .326 to left-handed bats this year.

Ervin Santana

Cleveland Indians vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.304 (Rank: 22)
Strikeout Rate: 19.1% (Rank: 10)

In six starts this year, Santana has been very hit or miss. He has allowed six earned runs in two starts, while allowing zero earned runs in two other starts. His SIERA coming into this start is at a 4.78 and his low strikeout rate of 15.5% does not make up for his struggles at times. He is safe to avoid against the Indians tonight Rating = 4.5

Salaries: $7,500 FD, $8,000 DK

Trevor Bauer
Minnesota Twins vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.298 (Rank: 25)
Strikeout Rate: 20.8% (Rank: 22)

Bauer struggled over the course of the middle of July but has responded well over the last two starts going 15.2 innings with three earned runs and 12 strikeouts. Bauer has pitched well over the course of the season with a 3.90 SIERA and 23.5% strikeout rate. The upside is there against the Twins who struggle against right-handed pitching and is definitely in play on the night slate. Rating = 7

Salaries: $8,300 FD, $9,800 DK

Batter Grind Down

Minnesota

The Twins are not the same type of offense against righties as they are against lefties. They do possess some power in the lineup, but Bauer is one of the better options going on the mound tonight.

Keyvius Sampson

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.315 (Rank: 11)
Strikeout Rate: 21.1% (Rank: 24)

Sampson pitched pretty well in his first start as he struck out six, but allowed three earned runs in five innings. The biggest red flag with a guy like Sampson who is only making his second start will be the possibility of a pitch count. He needs a near perfect start to go past the fifth inning and to have the lead in order for him to bring good value tonight in a hitters park, yet, with the pitching options tonight, someone is going to win a tournament with one of these types of pitchers on multi-pitcher sites. Rating = 4.5

Salaries: $5,000 FD, $4,700 DK

Robbie Ray

Cincinnati Reds vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.313 (Rank: 10)
Strikeout Rate: 19.7% (Rank: 8)

Ray has not been terrible for the Diamondbacks so far this year. After 12 starts, Ray has a SIERA of under 4.00 (3.84) and a solid 21.3% strikeout rate. He goes into this matchup against the Reds who are ranked tenth in team wOBA against lefties. This game is being played in hitter-friendly Chase, where Ray’s ERA is more than two runs higher. He is in the same boat as Sampson as there could be some upside here, but enough risk to keep it in tournaments only. Rating = 5

Salaries: $6,700 FD, $7,200 DK

Batter Grind Down

Cincinnati

Ray has pitched pretty well this year and has allowed less than a .310 wOBA to batters from both sides of the plate. This is being played at Chase so the bats do get a boost.

Adam Morgan

San Diego Padres vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.283 (Rank: 28)
Strikeout Rate: 25.1% (Rank: 30)

Adam Morgan has struggled so far after seven starts. His 4.46 ERA is backed up by his SIERA of 5.39 and his well-below-average 12.7% strikeout rate only makes him even more of a player to ignore tonight, even against the Padres. Rating = 4.5

Salaries: $5,300 FD, $4,500 DK

Tyson Ross

Philadelphia Phillies. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: .294 (Rank: 29)
Strikeout Rate: 19.2% (Rank: 11)

Ross has pitched very well this season, and has been great over the last month. During this five-game span, Ross has posted a SIERA of 2.75 to go along with a very solid 25.2% strikeout rate. He has a great matchup against the Phillies tonight who have a team wOBA of .294 on the year against righties. He is the top pitching option on the board tonight in a slate that lacks depth at the position. Rating = 8

Salaries: $8,900 FD, $10,600 DK

Batter Grind Down

Philadelphia

With Ross and the Padres being huge -200 favorites, the Phillies’ offense should look to be shut down tonight. Avoid the bats.

Ubaldo Jimenez

Los Angeles Angels vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.307 (Rank: 17)
Strikeout Rate: 19.5% (Rank: 14)

The wheels look to have fallen off for Ubaldo recently. Over his last four starts, he has allowed 22 earned runs over the course of only 16.2 innings pitched. He now has to face an Angels offense as a large underdog tonight. With his recent performance and matchup, Ubaldo can be avoided tonight. Rating = 4

Salaries: $7,600 FD, $7,800 DK

Garrett Richards

Baltimore Orioles vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.321 (Rank: 9)
Strikeout Rate: 22.1% (Rank: 27)

Garrett Richards has yet to be overly impressive on the year, but continues to pitch well for the Angels. He comes into this game with a 3.97 SIERA and 19.1% strikeout rate. He is coming off an 11 strikeout performance against the Indians and could keep it rolling against an Orioles squad that has a 22.1% strikeout rate against righties. Richards is one of the better pitching options of the night slate. Rating = 7

Salaries: $8,800 FD, $10,500 DK

Batter Grind Down

With the lack of pitching options, Richards is one of the betters ones going. With that said, the Orioles have the power bats to take anyone deep and some should be secondary options tonight.
