Pitcher Grind Down

Wei-Yin Chen

Chen is making the start tonight for the Orioles and has been in poor form recently. Over the last month, Chen has 4.35 SIERA with a low 14% strikeout rate. He has a tough matchup against the Rays who are much better against left-handed pitching. He is an easy avoid tonight. Rating = 5

Salaries: $8,300 FD, $8,000 DK

Erasmo Ramirez

Erasmo pitched great in his last start, and has a SIERA of 3.59 over the last month. Yet, he does not exactly put up the numbers needed to be a fantasy starter for fantasy, especially in a tough matchup against the Orioles who are ranked fourth in the league against right-handed pitching (.323 team wOBA). The upside here is the Orioles do strikeout at a high 22.2% rate, which could put Ramirez in play, but a risky one tonight. Rating = 6

Salaries: $7,800 FD, $6,400 DK

Batter Grind Down

Baltimore

Ramirez has shut down lefties this year (.245 wOBA), yet has really struggled against righties (.340 wOBA). Adam Jones and Manny Machado are elite plays, while Chris Davis is still a great play at the first base position.

Tampa Bay

The Rays are always a good source of value when facing a non-elite pitcher. Logan Forsythe and Evan Longoria are elite plays, while some of their cheaper guys are good secondary punt plays.

Pitcher Grind Down

Edinson Volquez

Volquez has had a solid season as he comes into this game with a 3.85 SIERA. Yet, he lacks the upside tonight as he also has a 17.6% strikeout rate on the year and faces a tough Detroit squad. He is an avoid tonight. Rating = 5

Salaries: $8,300 FD, $7,000 DK

Matt Boyd

Boyd is an easy player to avoid as he brings his 8+ ERA into this matchup with the Royals who are tough on DFS pitchers. Keep looking for a different starter in all formats. Rating = 3.5

Salaries: $5,600 FD, $4,200 DK

Batter Grind Down

Kansas City

Boyd has been crushed by batters from both sides of the plate (.396 wOBA + from both sides). This Royals offense is a nice one to target as their team total sits at 4.46 in this matchup. Check the status on Cain tonight as he has sat the last two games without any apparent injury.

Pitcher Grind Down

Sonny Gray

Recently, Gray has not been the pitcher he was earlier in the season. Over the last month, Gray has a SIERA of 4.68 as well as a very low 14.7% strikeout rate. He is not worth the price against a tough Astros squad. Rating = 5.5

Salaries: $10,200 FD, $10,600 DK

Scott Kazmir

Kazmir has been decent over the last month of play. He sports a 3.97 SIERA and a 20.6% strikeout rate during that span. He gets an Oakland offense that has been a middle of the road to bottom third of the league all season long. Kazmir is a decent sized favorite tonight and makes for a good tournament play and SP2.

Salaries: $9,700 FD, $9,200 DK

Batter Grind Down

Oakland

Kazmir has been decent recently and this Oakland team has a very low team total of 3.54. Avoid the bats in this spot.

Houston

Gray has not been in good form recently and this Astros team packs a ton of punch when their bats get going. Carlos Correa is an elite play tonight, while a few others are secondary plays.

Pitcher Grind Down

Carlos Rodon

Rodon has had a much better season recently.. Over the last 30 days (four starts), Rodon has a 3.80 SIERA and a solid 23.8% strikeout rate. He does have a difficult matchup against the Indians who are ranked 11th in team wOBA against lefties. Also, run support will be difficult against Carrasco, which makes Rodon a tournament play only with a bit of risk attached. Rating = 5

Salaries: $8,300 FD, $8,200 DK

Carlos Carrasco

Carrasco struggled in his first start back from injury, but rebounded well in his last start. He will look to keep the momentum going against a White Sox squad that is ranked 23rd in the league against righties. Carrasco has been a great fantasy pitcher as he comes into this game with a season long 2.86 SIERA and high 28.2% strikeout rate. He makes for a solid play tonight under the top play Kershaw. Rating = 8

Salaries: $9,400 FD, $11,400 DK

Batter Grind Down

Chicago White Sox

Carrasco has been a very good pitcher this year and has kept batters to a wOBA of under .298 from both sides of the plate. The White Sox have a low team total of 3.40 and should be avoided.

Elite Plays:

None

Secondary Plays:

Cleveland

Rodon has been beaten up by righties this year for a wOBA of .362 on the season. That puts the cheap righties Mike Aviles and Ryan Raburn as decent punt plays tonight.

Pitcher Grind Down

Josh Smith

Smith is not a fantasy option tonight for the Reds. In three starts and five appearances, he has a 7+ ERA, has three home runs allowed and has a low strikeout rate. Avoid him tonight. Rating = 4

Salaries: $5,000 FD, $4,100 DK

Taylor Jungmann

Jungmann is a serviceable starter for the Brewers. Over the season, he has a SIERA of 3.99 with a 21.9% strikeout rate. He has a matchup with the Reds tonight who are ranked 21st against righties. Jungmann has pitched very well against the Reds in two starts this year (14 innings, 1 earned run, 9 strikeouts), and makes for a decent SP2. Rating = 6.5

Salaries: $9,000 FD, $8,600 DK

Batter Grind Down

Cincinnati

Jungmann has kept batters to under a .296 wOBA from both sides of the plate this year. With that said, the Joey Votto is always in play against a non-elite right-handed pitcher.
