Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.327 (Rank: 7) — Strikeout Rate: 18.5% (Rank: 6)
Pitchers per PA: 3.78 (Rank: 17)
Analysis: Cashner has really struggled in his recent outings, posting a 5.16 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 13.3%. I’m not sure what’s wrong with Cashner, but there are enough red flags to avoid him tonight against the Pirates. There is more risk than potential reward with Cashner right now.
Pitcher Rating:48.9
Charlie Morton : FD: $7,400 — DK: $6,100
Pitching Stats:

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.269 (Rank: 27) — Strikeout Rate: 23.0% (Rank: 27)
Pitchers per PA: 3.79 (Rank: 13)
Analysis: Morton has not had the same strikeout rate as a year ago, and he comes into tonight game in less than stellar form. The good news is that he draws one of the best pitching matchups in all of baseball. The Padres are ranked 28th in wOBA (.290) and 26th in strikeout rate (22.2%) against right-handed pitching this season. Morton may be a cheap source for a win tonight.
Pitcher Rating:59.6

Even though the Padres matchup against Charlie Morton is particularly bad, there aren’t any hitters on the Padres that I want to target at this point of the season. For that reason, I will be avoiding San Diego altogether tonight.

Pittsburgh
As mentioned above, Andrew Cashner has not pitched well in his recent starts. He has always had an issue with left-handed hitters, allowing a .338 wOBA to them since the start of last season. I’m not going to have a ton of exposure to the Pirates, but Neil Walker and Gregory Polanco are both in play.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.312 (Rank: 13) — Strikeout Rate: 20.1% (Rank: 18)
Pitchers per PA: 3.89 (Rank: 5)
Analysis: Kazmir has been sharp over the last month of play, posting a 3.35 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 22.7%. The issue here isn’t his form, it’s his matchup. The Yankees are ranked fifth in wOBA (.322) and sixth in strikeout rate (19.1%) against right-handed pitching this season. There are better pitching options tonight at his price point.
Pitcher Rating:60.3
CC Sabathia : FD: $7,300 — DK: $7,700

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.311 (Rank: 15) — Strikeout Rate: 16.9% (Rank: 3)
Pitchers per PA: 3.88 (Rank: 7)
Analysis: Sabathia continues to be one of the unluckiest pitchers in all of baseball. In each of the last two seasons, his ERA is close to two full runs higher than his SIERA. Eventually, you would think that regression would set in, but maybe that’s not in the cards for Sabathia. He draws a tough matchup tonight against the A’s, who have the third-lowest strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season. Sabathia is a deep tournament play at best tonight.
Pitcher Rating:64.3

Oakland
Since the start of the 2014 season, CC Sabathia has given up a .400 wOBA to right-handed hitters. Basically, if you are in the A’s lineup and can hit from the right side of the plate, then you are in play tonight at Yankee Stadium.

Analysis: Straily had a decent start to his season, but he’s not getting any love from Vegas in tonight’s matchup against the Indians. He is a sizable underdog in a game that features a relatively high total of 8.0 runs. Straily is worth keeping an eye on moving forward, but he should be avoided tonight against the Indians.

Pitchers per PA: 3.85 (Rank: 10)
Analysis: Bauer is looking to recover his early season form, after posting a 4.65 SIERA over the last month of play. He is still a high-strikeout pitcher, but he is walking more batters in his recent outings. He draws a plus-matchup tonight against the Astros, who are ranked dead last in strikeout rate (25.9%) against right-handed pitching. This is a game where Bauer could either get shelled or pitch a gem. For that reason, I see him as more of a GPP play than a cash game play.
Pitcher Rating:61.0

The Astros draw a decent matchup against Trevor Bauer, who is a fly-ball pitcher with an average HR/FB rate. As I’m sure you know, the Astros lead the majors in home runs hit. Target Preston Tucker and the right-handed bats in this lineup.

The Indians are in a good spot tonight against Dan Straily, who has given up a .341+ wOBA to left and right-handed hitters over the past two seasons. The Indians’ offense has been cold in recent weeks, but I’m expecting a breakout performance tonight. They are my favorite contrarian stack outside of Coors Field.

He draws a very difficult matchup tonight against the Red Sox though, who are ranked eighth in wOBA (.322) and first in strikeout rate (16.2%) against right-handed pitching. Analysis: Porcello is a very interesting play tonight against the Marlins, especially on DraftKings where he is listed at a bargain-bin price of $5,800. Miami was already bad against right-handed pitching before the Giancarlo Stanton injury, and now they are even worse. On the season, they are ranked 26th in wOBA (.291) and 23rd in strikeout rate (20.6%) against right-handed pitching. He’s not a recommended play on single-pitcher sites, but I like him as an SP2 on DraftKings.

Chicago Cubs Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.300 (Rank: 22) — Strikeout Rate: 24.4% (Rank: 29)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.254 (Rank: 29) — Strikeout Rate: 20.4% (Rank: 19)
Pitchers per PA: 3.97 (Rank: 2)
Analysis: Wacha has pitched very well in his recent starts, posting a 2.72 SIERA with a high strikeout rate of 26.0% over the last month. He draws a plus-matchup against the Cubs, who have the second-highest strikeout rate (24.4%) against right-handed pitching. The Cubs do take a lot of pitches though, which could hurt his chances of pitching deep into this game. With Clayton Kershaw in such a great spot tonight, Wacha is more of an SP2.
Pitcher Rating:69.8
Jason Hammel : FD: $9,000 — DK: $9,100

St. Louis Cardinals Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.320 (Rank: 12) — Strikeout Rate: 19.0% (Rank: 10)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.277 (Rank: 24) — Strikeout Rate: 22.2% (Rank: 23)
Pitchers per PA: 3.78 (Rank: 20)
Analysis: Hammel has very good for the Cubs, posting a 3.33 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 23.4% over the last two seasons. He is effective against both left and right-handed hitters and he draws a decent matchup against a depleted Cardinals’ offense that is missing a few key pieces in their lineup. Like his pitching counterpart, Hammel is a viable SP2 tonight against St. Louis.
Pitcher Rating:77.0

St. Louis
The Cardinals’ offense has managed to stay afloat despite all of their injuries, but they are starting to slow down in recent weeks. They draw a tough matchup tonight against Jason Hammel, who has held left and right-handed hitters under a .300 wOBA. Jason Heyward is the only fantasy option of note here.

Chicago Cubs
The Cubs draw a tough matchup tonight against Michael Wacha, who has held left and right-handed hitters under a .295 wOBA over the last two seasons. The Cubs are small favorites tonight, but with a game in Coors Field, they are secondary options at best.
