Sneaky Rays Stack
If you are looking for a stack that may be sneaky today, I think it’s the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays are 7th in ISO and 6th in wOBA against right handed pitching this year. The Rays have a good group of left handed bats to throw out against Urena. He definitely struggles more to lefties, giving up a 35% fly ball rate and a 40% hard hit rate this year. I will be targeting Austin Meadows, Brandon Lowe, and JI Man Choi in GPPs tonight.

Favorite One Off
Christian Yelich is my favorite one-off in tournaments. He faces off with Jake Arrieta, who has struggled with lefties this year, having a 12% strikeout rate, 11% walk rate, and a 41% hard hit rate. Yelich against righties this year has a .449 ISO, .543 wOBA, and a 63% hard hit rate. With other high priced out-fielders on the slate to pay up for, he could end up being a little under-owned.
Top Prospect
With Travis Shaw going to the IL, the Brewers have called up their top prospect and a top 15 prospect in baseball. Keston Hiura has 11 home runs in 37 games at AAA this season, and a 1.106 ISO with a 163 wRC+. He’s extremely cheap across the industry and draws a pretty good matchup against Arrieta. Arrieta is better against righties, but I’m willing to roll the dice at this price tag.
Breakout Spot
Joes Urena can sometimes get by with his reasonably solid ground ball ability, but he allows far too much hard contact and doesn’t miss many bats. His career ground ball rate is also over 8% lower against left-handed bats, and he allows significantly more hard contact to lefties. That is clearly the spot to target against the Miami starter. Tampa Bay will likely roll five lefties out there tonight at varying price points. Austin Meadows has been great this year and has one of our highest PlateIQ scores of the day, but his price tag is also at a premium right now. On the dollar, though, my favorite option here is Ji-Man Choi. He has cooled a bit since a hot start but still owns a .352 wOBA and 124 wRC+ against RHP this year, and he should be hitting third tonight. At his current salary, he’s a nice buy on all sites.
Solid Matchup, Reasonable Price
Opposing starter Jorge Lopez has 108 innings of major league experience. In those innings, he has posted an ERA of 5.47 with below average strikeouts, above average walks, and a 41% hard contact rate. That’s not a good sign for his future outlook. His ground ball rate dips to 41% against left-handed bats, so it doesn’t bode well for him against a Texas team that has a lot of power hitters that come up from the left side of the plate. Joey Gallo and Rougned Odor are two of the best tournament plays on the entire slate, and I like Nomar Mazara as an option in all formats. He has respectable career numbers against RHP that include a .331 wOBA and .182 ISO. Those aren’t earth-shattering figures, but they are serviceable when you consider his price tag, his spot in the order, and tonight’s matchup.
Lift Off
The Astros having an implied team total near SEVEN full runs tonight. That’s amazing for a game being played in Detroit. It’s not Coors Field. It’s not Arlington. It’s Detroit. This isn’t a slam dunk hitters’ park. However, you have to feel bad for Gregory Soto. Houston leads the league in both wOBA and ISO against left-handed pitching by a hefty margin. Since the start of last season, Michael Brantley, Robinson Chirinos, Alex Bregman, George Springer, and Tyler White all own a wOBA above .350 against lefties. I’ve tagged Bregman as the core play tonight because of the way he fits at a weaker third base position, but you really can’t go wrong here. Soto only has 17 career innings above DOUBLE A ball on his resume. Cover your eyes.
The Top Option On The Mound
Good numbers? Check. Verlander has a 2.51 ERA, a 3.28 SIERA, a 30.6% strikeout rate, and a heck of a track record. The hard contact is a problem at times, but Verlander is clearly an elite arm on any slate. Good matchup? Check. The Tigers rank 28th in wOBA and 28th in ISO against RHP this year, and they have the 7th highest team strikeout rate. Revenge? Check. It’s Verlander’s first career start on the road against Detroit since he moved to Houston. SIGN ME UP. Verlander is far and away my favorite pitching option today given these three factors. Houston is an amazing -380 ROAD favorite tonight, which I don’t know if I have ever seen in MLB. This is a no brainer.
A Great Mid-Range Target
Eduardo Rodriguez will look to follow in the footsteps of Chris Sale last night, as Sale recorded a whopping 17 strikeouts on 21 total outs against this Rockies team. The Rockies rank near the top of the league in strikeouts and near the bottom of the league in walks against left-handed pitching, so that naturally plays into Rodriguez’ skill set. E-Rod has been very good over his last two starts with just one run allowed over 13 innings, and he’s my preferred mid-range target here.
BAL-NYY postponed due to forecasted inclement weather Tuesday
The game between the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees on Tuesday evening has been postponed due to forecasted inclement weather throughout the remainder of the day and evening hours. The teams have already announced that today’s previously scheduled game will be made up on Monday, August 12 at 1:05 pm EST as part of a day-night, split-admission doubleheader. Players from this matchup will not accrue fantasy points on Tuesday’s daily fantasy slates across the industry, so be sure to remove them from lineups as soon as possible.
As reported by: the New York Yankees via TwitterLoad Up On FanDuel
We have so many good first base options tonight, and I really like the idea of playing two on FanDuel tonight. I also think we could potentially play two cheaper first base options tonight. Yulieski Gurriel has a really good matchup tonight, and the Houston Astros should be one of the highest scoring teams on this slate. Carpenter has really struggled at the Major League level and has a .434 wOBA with a .299 ISO against right-handed hitters in 97 PAs since the start of 2018. Gurriel has a .188 ISO with a .384 wOBA against lefties since the start of 2018.
Taking Advantage Of This Price Tag
I absolutely love the Royals in this spot tonight, and I always like saving a little salary at first base when possible. That’s exactly why I like O’Hearn in this matchup. Since the start of 2018, Miller has a .370 wOBA with a .241 ISO and a 46.9% hard to soft contact ratio against left-handed hitters. Since the start of 2018, O’Hearn has a .304 ISO with a .400 wOBA against right-handed pitching. He really stands out to me as one of the top value plays on this slate, and should have some really good RBI upside in this matchup.
A Lot Of Upside In This Great Matchup
After taking the next step in 2018, Foltynewicz has really struggled this season. He has a 6.75 xFIP with a 13.2% strikeout rate and a 26.7% hard to soft contact ratio. I hate using smaller samples but until he starts to look better, I’m going to be targeting hitters against him. Since the start of 2018, Carpenter has a .249 ISO with a .376 wOBA against right-handed hitters. He’s really struggled to start the season, but I’m taking the talent in this matchup.
Potent Offense Could Add Top Prospect to Lineup Tonight
Jerad Eickhoff has had an excellent year so far with a 1.50 ERA and 0.97 WHIP over 30 innings, but his SIERA sits much higher at 3.96, and he is allowing a 43.7% FB% this season that is the second-highest on the slate. He has also allowed a career .506 slugging percentage to left-handed hitters, and the Brewers have several left-handed hitters who can hit long fly balls in Christian Yelich, Mike Moustakas, and Eric Thames. If stacking against Eickhoff I’ll also be looking to include leadoff hitter Lorenzo Cain, while also checking to see if highly-regarded recent callup Keston Hiura (1.106 OPS at AAA in 129 ABs) makes it into the lineup.

I don’t like a lot of the cheap pitchers on this slate, but I do think Wade Miley is worth a look in this spot. Since the start of 2018, he has a .285 wOBA with a .121 ISO against right-handed hitters. He doesn’t have a big strikeout rate, but he does have an above average ground ball rate. He’s using his cutter to generate a lot of those ground balls, and he’s throwing it just under 50% of the time. The Tigers have been better recently, but they still have below average team numbers against left-handed pitching. There is nothing safe about this spot, but Miley should have some run support from these Houston bats.
