There's no Can't in Cantlay... Oh Wait

Cantlay is close to an auto-play for me this week. He’s been so steady all year and he’s coming off of five straight top 30 finishes. The most impressive part is that he’s lost a considerable amount of strokes on and around the greens during the stretch. He’s one of the best off the tee and one of the best on approaches. All it will take for Cantlay to get another win is a decent week chipping and putting. His price is too cheap across the industry and this is one of the few courses that he has actually seen in the past. He played here back in 2011 and finished with a T20.

Time for a Good Weekend

Fleetwood can’t seem to put four rounds together. Lately, it’s been every single Saturday where he blows up and takes himself out of contention. It’s honestly a bit odd, but it’s not something that he can’t overcome. He’s an elite golfer that is looking to pave his way to his first career Tour Championship. Even with his inconsistent play on the weekend, he has strung together some great finishes and we know he can compete in these stacked fields. He’s one of the best total drivers of the ball on tour, which is a big boost at a course where golfers will be hitting driver on a lot of the holes.

You've Probably Heard this from me Before

It seems like one part of Tiger’s game is off every single week. Earlier in the year, it was the driver. Then it was the putter. Then it was the driver again. Over the last two events, he has gained strokes off the tee and he looks incredibly comfortable with his driver. Of course, this meant that he wasn’t going to putt well. It looks like he’s going back to his trusty Scotty Cameron putter this week, which should be a sight for sore eyes. If he can maintain his elite tee to green game and finally gain some strokes putting, he’ll be in the mix on Sunday. I know that I’m a Tiger homer, but I always like his chances to win at courses where 15-under should get the job done instead of 20-under. He’s a grinder, as evidenced by the fact that he leads the field in bogey avoidance.

Elite Golfer at a Slight Discount

If you want to pay up for Dustin Johnson or Justin Rose this week, I certainly get it. Both are in good form and both are great plays in a vacuum. The way I see it, pricing is tough this week and I really like the look of my builds more starting with JT and his significant discount. He has just as much winning upside as Johnson and Rose and he’s in just as good of form. He’s ranked in the top 20 in this field in every key statistic for the week and even when he’s not playing his best, he still manages to scrape out solid finishes. If paying up (which isn’t a must this week), JT is my preferred option.

Daniel Berger has withdrawn from the BMW Championship

Fighting through injuries over the last few weeks, Daniel Berger has decided to not play in this week’s BMW Championship. Ranked in the 65th position in the FedEx Cup standings, Berger’s 2018 season is over.

Abraham Ancer plays his way into The BMW Championship

Looking to make the most of his second stint on the PGA Tour, Abraham Ancer played excellent golf this last week and was able to move inside the top 70 and earn a birth at The BMW Championship. DraftKings released it’s player pool for this short week early on Tuesday morning, but has yet to add players like Ancer. If you are setting early week lineups please note that the field will be updated with both additions and subtractions. Players like Jimmy Walker did not qualify for the next event and will not play this week.

Billy Horschel continues to ride the hot hand

Often known as a streaky golfer, Billy Horschel heads into this week’s Dell Technologies Championship with a chance to make his deepest run at the cup since the 2014 season. Four years ago at this event, Horschel posted 4 straight rounds in the sixties to finish second. Out of nowhere, Horschel won the next two weeks to claim the 2014 FedEx Cup title. Looking to build on back to back strong showings ( T11 & T3) Horschel has the momentum we are looking for when making roster choices this week. Having gained strokes in five of his last seven events Horschel looks to have his game fine-tuned for another late season run. While it would be crazy to see Horschel duplicate the magic of his 2014 run, his past experience makes it a bit easier to ride the hot hand for this week’s Dell Technologies Championship.

Daniel Berger continues to play through an injury

Multiple PGA Tour winner Daniel Berger is in danger of missing the first tour championship of his young career. Battling a hand injury through the late part of the season, Berger has yet to really to compete at a high level. With only one top 10 this year and a 63rd ranking in the FedEx Cup standings, Berger will need to play his best golf of the season over the next two weeks if he has any hopes of playing in his fourth Tour Championship. With an injured hand being a major concern, many in the DFS community have sworn of Berger for the time being. Over his last seven starts Berger has only had an ownership number greater than 10 percent twice, and both of those tournaments he left backers very disappointed. Over that same time period, Berger has also rewarded those not afraid of taking a risk with three top 15 or better finishes at sub 3% ownership. Projected to once again be a low owned option for The Dell Technologies Championship, Berger remains a great pivot option for players not afraid of risk. Still considered to be a very talented young golfer, Berger has the game to be a difference maker in GPP’s for The Dell Technologies Championship.

Chesson Hadley in need of a strong finish to his season

For much of the 2018 PGA Tour season, Chesson Hadley has enjoyed the comfort of being inside the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings. Looking to make the most of his second full-time stint on The PGA Tour, Hadley performed at an exceptional level over the first half of the season. With 12 of his 13 top 25’s occurring before June 1st Hadley has played well enough early in the season to still be in the top 30 in the FedEx Cup rankings despite a poor second half to his year. Coming into this event with back to back made cut’s Hadley at great discount ranks as a number one option in terms of Pt/$K in the DraftKings RotoGrinders player projection tool for this week’s Dell Technologies Championship. With seven top 10’s this season including four top five or better finishes, Hadley has proven that he has more than enough upside to pay off his salary. The poor recent form in comparison to his potential from earlier in the season makes this a great spot to jump on Hadley. With a chance to still make it to East Lake, Hadley has plenty of incentive to finish the season strong, and in the small field this week, he is one of the few valued priced players with a proven history of success in terms of high finishes.

Tony Finau looks to keep the momentum going

Despite not having a win yet this season, Tony Finau has a great shot of winning The FedEx Cup title. With a potential Ryder Cup captain’s pick in his future, Finau continues to prove that he has the game to play week in and week out with the best players in the world. The only thing appears lacking from this young players resume at his point in his career are wins. Since joining the tour in 2015 Finau has always been known as a super talented bomber of the golf ball and was often regarded as only a fit to certain types of courses. With 113 career tour starts now under his belt and an impressive 47% of those resulting in top 25 or better finishes, Finau is starting to prove that he has more to his game than just distance. Top ten finishes in 3 out of the 4 major championships and a second place finish at last week’s Northern Trust are strong indicators of how close Finau is to winning again on tour. With this type of play it’s easy to see why Finau has the trust of many in the DFS community, and at still relative pricing discount he makes perfect sense in a ton of roster builds for the week.

Ryan Palmer looks to finish the season strong

Heading into last week’s Northern Trust Ryan Palmer had to perform well in order to avoid missing out on a playoff run. With a solid T5 finish, Palmer was able to jump up 50 spots in the FedEx Cup race. Looking to make his first tour championship since the 2014 season, Palmer noted in his post-tournament interview that he feels great about the direction of his game and that he feels confident that he can play his way to East Lake in a few weeks. Always known as a streaky golfer, Palmer in good form stands out as a great source of value for The Dell Technologies Championship. Having made a top 30 or better in four out of his last five starts, Palmer is in a great spot to once again play well and in a small field, event has more than enough upside to pay off his discounted salary.

Adam Scott remains unpopular despite recent solid form

Former number one player in the world Adam Scott has experienced more than his fair share of the ups and downs associated with professional golf. Scott has struggled with consistency since the game of golf outlawed an anchored putter. Early week ownership projection numbers have Scott once again trending towards a low ownership number for The Dell Technologies Championship. Scott even at a discount this season has failed to break the 10% ownership number in five of his last six starts. With back-to-back top five or better finishes in his last two starts, Scott has found his game at the right point in the season. With six-career top tens at this event, Scott has both a great course history and solid recent form. Scott is still an elite ball striker, and with what appears to be a putter trending in the right direction this is a great spot to jump on what appears to be an unpopular pick.

Paul Casey heads into the week with improved form

Normally a very consistent golf, Paul Casey let quite a few people down in the world of DFS golf with an unlikely missed cut at The PGA Championship. Casey returned to action last week, and while he did not finish high in terms of standings, he did manage to make a ton of birdies on the week. Unfortunately for Casey his 20 birdies on the week was somewhat negated in his finish position due to two doubles and a quadruple bogey. Due to his poor recent play, Casey comes into this week with a noticeable discount in comparison to his actual talent. In his last two starts at TPC Boston, Casey has a T2 and T4, and if he can keep away the big numbers this top 20 player in the world could be in a great position to claim his second win of the season. Talent at a discount is never a bad idea in terms of building a DFS roster, and when you factor in the upside Casey brings to the table he certainly makes sense as one of the stronger cash plays for Dell Championship.
