Milwaukee Brewers Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.294 (Rank: 23) — Strikeout Rate: 21.6% (Rank: 25)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.288 (Rank: 22) — Strikeout Rate: 18.0% (Rank: 7)
Pitchers per PA: 3.74 (Rank: 21)
Analysis: After four straight quality starts, Zimmermann was knocked around a bit against the Cubs, giving up four earned runs on ten hits in only five innings of work. His strikeout numbers have taken a big dip this season, which does hurt his fantasy appeal. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Brewers, but with all of the other aces taking the mound tonight, he’s not a pitcher that is on my radar for cash games or tournaments.
Pitcher Rating:66.1
Mike Fiers : FD: $7,400 — DK: $7,900
Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 133.2 — SIERA: 3.17 — K%: 26.7% — BB%: 7.0% — FB Rate: 42.7% — HR/FB: 9.2%

Washington Nationals Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.314 (Rank: 10) — Strikeout Rate: 20.8% (Rank: 22)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.282 (Rank: 24) — Strikeout Rate: 20.0% (Rank: 15)
Pitchers per PA: 3.75 (Rank: 20)
Analysis: Fiers is the ultimate tournament play. With every start, he has the ability to strike out 10+ batters, but there is also a decent chance that he is going to give up a lot of runs. He has an impressive 26.7% strikeout rate since the start of 2014, but that number has come down over the last month or two. Fiers is a decent tournament target tonight against the Nationals, but he should be avoided in cash games.
Pitcher Rating:68.7

NO ELITE PLAYS – Since the start of 2014, Mike Fiers has held left and right-handed hitters under a .305 wOBA. You could argue that Bryce Harper is an elite play, but at his price point, I see him more as a secondary option in the outfield.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.283 (Rank: 23) — Strikeout Rate: 22.8% (Rank: 26)
Pitchers per PA: 3.74 (Rank: 23)
Analysis: Ventura is coming off of a very rough outing against the Rangers (and yes, I had him in the King of Boston event). He appeared to be rounding into form, but he couldn’t seem to find the strike zone and when he did, it was right over the heart of the plate. I have no interest in another ‘ad-Ventura’ tonight against the Cardinals, who are ranked sixth in wOBA (.320) and eighth in strikeout rate (19.0%) against right-handed pitching.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.268 (Rank: 29) — Strikeout Rate: 19.6% (Rank: 13)
Pitchers per PA: 3.66 (Rank: 29)
Analysis: Garcia is coming off of his best start of the season, striking out six batters over seven innings of work against a very tough Dodgers’ offense. Over the last month, Garcia has a 2.90 SIERA with a respectable strikeout rate of 18.0%. He is catching the Royals at the perfect time, as they are ranked 29th in wOBA (.268) over the last two weeks. The Royals are still one of the best offenses in baseball against left-handed pitching though, which makes me a bit weary of recommending Garcia.

Analysis: Escobar is a serviceable punt play tonight at shortstop, which is typically one of our favorite positions to punt. He has good career numbers against left-handed pitching and he draws a decent matchup against Jaime Garcia. If the Royals’ offense finally starts hitting tonight, Escobar could be in for one of his patented multi-hit, multi-run games.

Pitchers per PA: 3.75 (Rank: 19)
Analysis: Chavez has pitched well for the A’s, posting a 3.63 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 21.8% over the last two seasons. He comes into tonight’s game in good form, although he is catching the Angels at a bad time. The Angels’ offense is finally starting to hit, ranking fourth in wOBA (.341) over the last two weeks of play. With all of the other aces taking the mound tonight, Chavez is nothing more than a deep flier for tournaments.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.311 (Rank: 13) — Strikeout Rate: 18.6% (Rank: 10)
Pitchers per PA: 3.87 (Rank: 6)
Analysis: Even though the A’s offense is ranked 27th in wOBA against left-handed pitching this season, I don’t expect that to last much longer. They finally have a couple of their right-handed bats back (Zobrist and Lawrie) and they are one of the most patient teams at the plate in all of baseball. As a team, they have the fourth-lowest strikeout rate, while averaging the sixth-most pitches per plate appearance. That’s not a great combination for Santiago tonight.

Analysis: Zobrist is working his way out of a slump, which has brought his price down to a very playable level on both FanDuel and DraftKings. He is a switch-hitter that hits well from both sides of the plate. He draws a favorable matchup against fly-ball pitcher Hector Santiago, who has given up a .318 wOBA to right-handed hitters over the last two seasons.

Analysis: I’m SO excited for the spot Kershaw is in tonight. We finally get to target him on a night where he isn’t going to be 70% owned in cash games. His price has come up and there are a lot of great pitching options on the board, which should help lower the ownership of Kershaw. I’ll be using him in my cash game lineups though, as he draws a fantastic matchup against the strikeout-happy Padres. Not only is the matchup in his favor, but he also gets to face them in Petco Park, which is the best pitcher’s park in all of baseball. Kershaw almost reached the elusive pitcher rating of 100.

Analysis: While Petco Park isn’t the best hitter’s park in baseball, that doesn’t mean that we ALWAYS have to avoid taking hitters there. When the pricing and matchup are right, I don’t mind taking a hitter or two in Petco. Gonzalez has a depressed price on both FanDuel and DraftKings and he draws a favorable matchup against Odrisamer Despaigne, who has given up a .324 wOBA to left-handed hitters.

Clayton Kershaw and Felix Hernandez are both in better matchups tonight. That’s not to say Bumgarner isn’t in play, but he’ll likely only find himself in my tournament lineups. The Diamondbacks are a good hitting team against left-handed pitching, ranking ninth in wOBA (.319) and ninth in strikeout rate (19.2)% this season.
