MLB Grind Down: Tuesday, August 11th
The RotoGrinders MLB Grind Down article will give you an in-depth analysis into the MLB schedule. This article will break down the numbers for every single game and give you analysis on which trends you can exploit. While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy baseball, there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, weather, and salaries.
The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. No sport has more variance than baseball. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.355 (Rank: 4) — Strikeout Rate: 16.6% (Rank: 5)
Pitchers per PA: 3.82 (Rank: 14)
Analysis: Graveman has not pitched well recently, posting a 6.20 ERA (4.13 SIERA) with a strikeout rate of 18.4% over the last month of play. He walks too many batters and he has an awful matchup against the Blue Jays, who are ranked second in team wOBA and sixth in team strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. He also has to face them in the hitter-friendly Rogers Centre.
Pitcher Rating: 35.0
Drew Hutchison : FD: $8,300 — DK: $5,700

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.264 (Rank: 29) — Strikeout Rate: 18.3% (Rank: 6)
Pitchers per PA: 3.87 (Rank: 7)
Analysis: Hutchison has failed to recover his early season form, but he is a huge favorite tonight against the A’s. His upside is somewhat limited against an Oakland team that has the fifth-lowest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching, but he should be a cheap source for the win tonight. There are better options in cash games, but he’s a good value play for tournaments on DraftKings at a price of only $5,700.
Pitcher Rating: 68.8
Batter Grind Down
Oakland
The A’s draw a decent matchup tonight against Drew Hutchison, who has given up a .320+ wOBA to both left and right-handed hitters over the last two seasons. The A’s also see a nice ballpark boost playing in the Rogers Centre. There are a few hitters in play here, but none stand out as must-starts at their respective positions.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.326 (Rank: 15) — Strikeout Rate: 22.9% (Rank: 26)
Pitchers per PA: 3.91 (Rank: 3)
Analysis: Severino pitched well in his major league debut, striking out seven batters while only allowing a single earned run against the Red Sox. He is the Yankees’ top pitching prospect and he won’t be priced this low for much longer. He draws a fairly difficult matchup tonight against the Indians, who are ranked 16th in team wOBA and 9th in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. He’s still too risky for cash games, but fire him up in tournaments.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.361 (Rank: 3) — Strikeout Rate: 19.3% (Rank: 13)
Pitchers per PA: 3.89 (Rank: 4)
Analysis: Carrasco has been terrific over the last month of play, posting a 2.56 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 25.2%. He draws one of the worst matchups on the board tonight, though. On the season, the Yankees are ranked fourth in team wOBA and sixth in team strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. The Yankees’ offense has been reeling lately, but it’s hard to pay this price for a pitcher in such a bad matchup.
Pitcher Rating: 82.1

NY Yankees
Even though I won’t be targeting Carlos Carrasco against the Yankees, I will likely pass on the hitters in this lineup as well. Since the start of the 2014 season, Carrasco has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .280 wOBA over the last two seasons. The Yankees are secondary fantasy options at best tonight.

Analysis: Rusin is one of the many Rockies’ pitchers that can easily be avoided. His SIERA suggests that he has been pitching better recently, but he continues to give up a lot of runs. He has a low strikeout rate and he is one of the biggest underdogs on the board tonight. The Mets may not have a great offense, but they have been much better in recent weeks.

Analysis: Harvey is finally starting to find his form, posting a 1.77 ERA (3.59 SIERA) with a strikeout rate of 22.6% over the last month of play. The best part is that he has only given up a single walk in his last three starts combined. I expect another strong start from the ‘Dark Knight’ tonight, as the Rockies are a much different team offensively away from Coors. Zack Greinke is obviously a strong play against the Nationals, but Harvey is right there with him as the top pitching option on the board.

He draws a decent matchup against the Braves, although they do have the third-lowest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. Ramirez is dirt cheap and he is one of the biggest favorites on the board. As crazy as it sounds, I don’t mind him as an SP2 on multi-pitcher sites.

If he can’t strikeout hitters in the minors, he’s not going to strikeout hitters in the majors. Miami
The Marlins draw a mediocre matchup tonight against Steven Wright. While he hasn’t been particularly effective against hitters from either side of the plate, but the Marlins are ranked dead last in team wOBA against right-handed pitching. Dee Gordon and Christian Yelich are both secondary options here.
