Henry Owens : FD: $4,600 — DK: $6,700
New York Yankees Offense (2015)
vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.337 (Rank: 3) — Strikeout Rate: 18.7% (Rank: 4)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.386 (Rank: 1) — Strikeout Rate: 17.1% (Rank: 6)
Pitchers per PA: 3.89 (Rank: 4)
Analysis: Owens will be making his major league debut tonight. He is a 23-year-old left-hander that is regarded by many as the top pitching prospect of the organization. In 16 starts at the Triple-A level this season, he posted a 3.68 FIP with a strikeout rate of 20.6%. The price point is appealing tonight, but given his matchup against the Yankees in New York, he should only be targeted as a deep tournament play. The Yankees are ranked third in team wOBA and fourth in strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season.
Pitcher Rating:48.5
Masahiro Tanaka : FD: $9,600 — DK: $9,800
Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 224.0 — SIERA: 2.89 — ERA: 3.17 — K%: 25.1% — BB%: 4.4% — HR/9: 1.2

Boston Red Sox Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.315 (Rank: 12) — Strikeout Rate: 16.5% (Rank: 2)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.320 (Rank: 12) — Strikeout Rate: 18.8% (Rank: 11)
Pitchers per PA: 3.96 (Rank: 2)
Analysis: Tanaka comes into tonight’s start as one of the largest favorites on the board. He also comes into this game in good form, posting a 3.45 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 20.9% over the last month of play. His matchup against the Red Sox is less than ideal though. Boston has the second-lowest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching and they average the second-most pitches per plate appearance this season. Tanaka is still in play at a price under $10,000, but he is by no means a must-start tonight.
Pitcher Rating:83.5
Batter Grind Down
Boston
The Red Sox may play in a favorable hitter’s park in Yankee Stadium tonight, but they have an extremely difficult matchup against Masahiro Tanaka, who has held left and right-handed hitters under a .305 wOBA over the last two seasons. With a full slate of games on tap tonight, the Red Sox can be avoided for fantasy purposes.

NY Yankees
The Yankees are huge favorites tonight against Henry Owens, who is making his major league debut tonight. The Yankees have one of the highest team totals on the board and while it’s hard to predict what will happen in these pitching debuts, Vegas likes New York to put up quite a few runs in this one. Target the right-handed hitters tonight against the southpaw.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.327 (Rank: 10) — Strikeout Rate: 24.0% (Rank: 27)
Pitchers per PA: 3.78 (Rank: 17)
Analysis: Arrieta has had a slow start in each of his last two outings, but he righted the ship and had quality starts in both. He has been one of the best pitchers in baseball over the last two seasons, posting a 2.85 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 27.0%. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Pirates, who are ranked 17th in team wOBA and 21st in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. Everything lines up for a nice outing from Arrieta tonight, but he’s not a big favorite, which does hurt his chances of picking up the win.

Pitchers per PA: 3.98 (Rank: 1)
Analysis: Happ is making his first start as a member of the Pirates. Happ may not be the best left-handed pitcher in baseball, but it was a move that could really help the Pirates make that push into the playoffs. Since the start of the 2014 season, he has a 4.04 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 18.8%. He draws a decent matchup tonight against the Cubs, who are ranked 11th in team wOBA and 23rd in strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season. Happ is not a recommended cash game option, but he provides good upside at his price point for tournaments.
Pitcher Rating:51.1

Chicago Cubs
The Cubs have been much better against left-handed pitching than they have against right-handed pitching this season. While they don’t have a very high run total tonight, their matchup against J.A. Happ is exploitable. Since the start of the 2014 season, Happ has given up a .329+ wOBA to hitters from both sides of the plate.

The Pirates are small underdogs tonight in a game that features a low total of 7.5 runs. Analysis: Corbin has been terrific this season, posting a 2.87 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 25.9%. It has only been five starts, but all signs point to him being a legitimate major league pitcher. He has shown good command this season and he is generating a career-high swinging-strike rate of 11.8%. He draws a nice matchup against the Nationals tonight, but unfortunately, he is a huge underdog thanks to the fact that Max Scherzer is pitching opposite him. Corbin is not a great cash game play tonight, but he can be targeted in tournaments.

Pitchers per PA: 3.70 (Rank: 29)
Analysis: Scherzer is the highest rated pitcher on the board tonight. He has been terrific over the last two seasons, posting a 2.81 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 28.6% (which goes to show just how impressive Jake Arrieta has been). He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Diamondbacks, who have the highest strikeout rate of any team over the last 14 days of play. Scherzer also gets to face them at home in the pitcher-friendly confines of Nationals Park. Scherzer is the chalk play at pitcher tonight, although we are going to have to decide if we want to spend up at pitcher or if we want to spend up on the hitters in Coors Field.

Analysis: Wood is making his first start as a member of the Dodgers. This was a trade that didn’t get a lot of publicity, but it was a very good pickup for the Dodgers. Wood is coming off of his best start of the season where he struck out seven batters over seven scoreless innings of work against the Orioles. Tonight’s matchup against the Phillies is a decent one, as they are ranked 11th in team wOBA and 13th in strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season. Analysis: Hughes has been a completely different pitcher than the one that we saw in 2014. His SIERA is way up, while his strikeout rate is way down. That’s not the recipe for success, especially in daily fantasy baseball. His numbers will likely get even worse after tonight’s start against the Blue Jays, who are ranked third in team wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. Minnesota
The Twins may be sizable underdogs tonight, but there is plenty of room for production with the total for the game set at 9.0 runs. They draw a decent matchup against Marco Estrada, who is a reverse-splits pitcher. Brian Dozier, Miguel Sano, Torii Hunter, and Joe Mauer all deserve consideration tonight in the hitter-friendly Rogers Centre.

Toronto
The Blue Jays have the highest team total on the board, outside of the game in Coors Field. They draw a terrific matchup against Phil Hughes, who has given up a .368 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season. That bodes well for a Blue Jays lineup that consists primarily of right-handed batters.
