Pitching Stats:

Milwaukee Brewers Offense (2015)
vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.284 (Rank: 28) — Strikeout Rate: 22.1% (Rank: 18)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.294 (Rank: 22) — Strikeout Rate: 19.8% (Rank: 15)
Pitchers per PA: 3.73 (Rank: 23)
Analysis: On paper, Niese makes a pretty strong play tonight. He has pitched well recently with a 3.37 SIERA and a strikeout rate of 21.6% over the last month and he draws a favorable matchup against the Brewers. The downside here is that he is an underdog in a game that features a fairly high total of 8.0 runs. It also hurts that he has to face the Brewers in Miller Park, which is one of the most hitter-friendly ballparks in baseball.
Pitcher Rating:54.9
Mike Fiers : FD: $7,600 — DK: $8,200
Pitching Stats:

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.278 (Rank: 26) — Strikeout Rate: 21.1% (Rank: 20)
Pitchers per PA: 3.84 (Rank: 8)
Analysis: Fiers has been less than stellar in his last few starts, but he has a great chance to bounce back tonight against the Mets. On the season, New York is ranked 27th in wOBA (.291) and 21st in strikeout rate (20.4%) against right-handed pitching. Since the start of 2014, Fiers has struck out 26.0% of the batters that he has faced. Current form is an issue, but he offers great upside at his price point.

Mike Fiers is an inconsistent pitcher, but he is in a great spot tonight against the Mets. New York is ranked 27th in wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. There are better matchups to exploit tonight.

Analysis: Ladies and gentlemen, Goldschmidt has cracked the $6,000 mark. At a price that high, it’s extremely difficult to fit him in your lineup if you are hoping to pair him with an elite pitcher. He still deserves the feature in the Grind Down though, as he is the top hitter on the board tonight. He has been red-hot over the last two weeks and he is facing Kyle Kendrick, who has given up more home runs (18) than any pitcher this season. Load up on the Diamondbacks tonight in both cash games and tournaments.

Analysis: Blackmon is usually my favorite hitter to target on the Rockies because unlike his teammates, he has good power and good speed. He may not hit a lot of home runs, but he was built for a park like Coors Field that yields a ton of doubles and triples. Blackmon and his teammates are all in play tonight, as they have the highest team total on the board.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.316 (Rank: 15) — Strikeout Rate: 17.1% (Rank: 5)
Pitchers per PA: 3.76 (Rank: 20)
Analysis: McHugh has not pitched well in his recent starts with a 4.49 SIERA and a strikeout rate of 15.8% over the last month of play. Current form is always important in pitching and unfortunately for McHugh, he doesn’t have it coming into tonight’s start. He is not on my radar tonight against the Angels, who have been better offensively in recent weeks. I’d much rather target CC Sabathia or Mike Fiers at his price point.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.356 (Rank: 5) — Strikeout Rate: 24.8% (Rank: 28)
Pitchers per PA: 3.82 (Rank: 11)
Analysis: Wilson finally looks like the same pitcher that he was when he played for the Rangers. Over the last month, he has a 3.17 SIERA with a high strikeout rate of 28.1%. This may be the last time to target him at his current price point. While the matchup against the Astros is less than ideal, it is a favorable matchup for strikeouts. The Astros have the 5th-most strikeouts against left-handed pitching this season. The upside is there for tournaments, but Wilson is not a great cash game target.

Analysis: Correa has been impressive in his first season, especially against left-handed pitching. He has a .438 wOBA and a .333 ISO against southpaws. He has good speed, good power, and he can hit for average. The best part is that his price has come down a bit on both FanDuel and DraftKings. He deserves consideration tonight against C.J. Wilson, who has given up a .324 wOBA to right-handed hitters over the last two seasons.

Since the start of 2014, Collin McHugh has held left and right-handed hitters under a .305 wOBA. The Angels are small favorites in this game, but this is not an ideal matchup. Mike Trout is the only Angels’ hitter on my radar tonight and he’s a better tournament play than a cash game play.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.260 (Rank: 30) — Strikeout Rate: 22.4% (Rank: 25)
Pitchers per PA: 3.88 (Rank: 6)
Analysis: Guthrie is one of those pitchers that you can just cross off your list right whenever he takes the mound. He has one of the lowest strikeout rates of any starter in baseball and he pitches in the American League, which doesn’t help. Even though the Mariners’ offense is awful, Guthrie is not on my radar tonight.

Pitchers per PA: 3.67 (Rank: 29)
Analysis: Montgomery has struggled this season with a 5.10 SIERA and a very low strikeout rate of 11.3%. He’s an easy pitcher to avoid tonight against the Royals, who have one of the best offenses in baseball. If the Royals can put up runs against Felix Hernandez, they should have a field day against Montgomery.

He has hit left-handed pitching well throughout his career and he draws a favorable matchup against the struggling Mike Montgomery. The Royals are a very sneaky offense to target tonight, as most people will be thrown off by the low team total.

Analysis: Like most of the hitters on the Mariners, Seager has been in the middle of a slump. Luckily, his price has come down to a very playable level on both FanDuel and DraftKings. If there was ever a night for the Mariners to put up some runs, this would be it. Their lineup consists primarily of left-handed hitters and Jeremy Guthrie has given up a .377 wOBA to lefties over the past two seasons.

San Francisco is ranked 9th in wOBA (.322) and 4th in strikeout rate (17.0%) against right-handed pitching this season. Despaigne will also have very limited run support with Madison Bumgarner pitching opposite him. He should be avoided in all league formats.

Analysis: Bumgarner is the premier pitching option on the board tonight. He has pitched well over the last month of play with a 3.11 SIERA and a strikeout rate of 25.2%. He also draws a favorable matchup against the Padres, who have the 7th-highest strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season. Bumgarner provides a high floor and a high ceiling. He is also one of the largest favorites on the board. He is the chalk play tonight for cash games.

San Diego
Madison Bumgarner is the top pitching option on the board tonight. He has pitched well at AT&T Field throughout his career and he is efficient against both left and right-handed hitters. The Padres are an easy offense to avoid tonight.
San Francisco
The Giants’ offense is in a decent spot tonight against Odrisamer Despaigne, but none of the individual hitters stand out as must plays at their respective positions. There are plenty of teams with higher totals tonight. For that reason, I see the Giants as secondary options.
