Charlie Morton : FD: $7,000 — DK: $5,400
Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 215.1 — SIERA: 3.81 — ERA: 3.89 — K%: 17.3% — BB%: 8.3% — HR/9: 0.6

Kansas City Royals Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.323 (Rank: 8) — Strikeout Rate: 16.0% (Rank: 1)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.369 (Rank: 2) — Strikeout Rate: 13.2% (Rank: 1)
Pitchers per PA: 3.66 (Rank: 30)
Analysis: Morton has been giving up runs in bunches recently. Over the last month, he has a 4.55 SIERA and an 8.03 ERA. A pitcher in bad form is always easy to avoid, especially when they are facing the Royals, who have the lowest strikeout rate of any team in baseball this season.
Pitcher Rating:47.2
Edinson Volquez : FD: $8,300 — DK: $7,000
Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 305.0 — SIERA: 4.22 — ERA: 3.13 — K%: 17.4% — BB%: 8.7% — HR/9: 0.7

Pittsburgh Pirates Offense (2015)

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.284 (Rank: 25) — Strikeout Rate: 21.9% (Rank: 23)
Pitchers per PA: 3.78 (Rank: 18)
Analysis: Volquez is one of those pitchers that doesn’t have many bad outings, but he doesn’t have many dominant ones either. He has an average SIERA with a below-average strikeout rate. Tonight’s matchup against the Pirates is a decent one, but he is a bit overpriced for the strikeout potential that he brings to the table. There are better pitching options to target in both cash games and tournaments.
Pitcher Rating:57.7
Batter Grind Down
Pittsburgh
The Pirates’ offense has been disappointing this season, but they have a ton of talent up and down their roster. The ballpark isn’t exactly a great one for offensive production, but their matchup against Edinson Volquez isn’t terrible. Volquez is a hittable pitcher that doesn’t strike out a ton of batters.

Kansas City
The Royals draw a favorable matchup against Charlie Morton, who has been downright awful in his last few starts. The Royals love to make contact and that should be an easy feat against Morton, who has a low strikeout rate. The production should be there tonight, the difficult part is predicting which part of the lineup it’s going to come from.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.298 (Rank: 18) — Strikeout Rate: 19.9% (Rank: 11)
Pitchers per PA: 3.85 (Rank: 9)
Analysis: Kelly will draw the start for the Red Sox tonight. He has been a serviceable pitcher over the last two seasons with a 4.28 SIERA and a strikeout rate of 16.8%. He draws a tough matchup tonight against the Astros, who are ranked 11th in wOBA (.317) against right-handed pitching. The Astros also take a lot of pitches, which drives up their opponent’s pitch count.
Pitcher Rating:38.8
Collin McHugh : FD: $8,400 — DK: $8,000

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.248 (Rank: 30) — Strikeout Rate: 20.0% (Rank: 12)
Pitchers per PA: 3.97 (Rank: 2)
Analysis: McHugh is finally starting to flash that 2014 form. Over the last month of play, he has a 3.65 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 17.7%. Tonight’s matchup against the Red Sox may appear tough on paper, but Boston actually has the lowest wOBA (.248) of any team over the last 14 days of play. He’s not the safest pitching option on the board, but he could be a great contrarian play in tournaments.

The Red Sox draw a difficult matchup tonight against Collin McHugh, but they do get to face him in the hitter-friendly Minute Maid Park. I’m likely going to fade the Red Sox as a whole tonight, but Mookie Betts and David Ortiz are both viable secondary options at their respective positions.

Houston
The Astros draw a favorable matchup against Joe Kelly, who has given up a .307+ wOBA to hitters from both sides of the plate over the last two seasons. There are quite a few options in play here, but Preston Tucker stands out as a great value play in the outfield. Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa are solid targets, but they aren’t the most economical choices at their positions.

Analysis: While Lance Lynn is a strong pitching option tonight, Fernandez takes the cake as the top overall play at the position. He has been terrific this season, posting a 1.99 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 28.8%. He draws an average matchup against the Diamondbacks, but they do strike out at a fairly high rate. The ballpark isn’t ideal, but I’ll take my chances with the strikeout upside of Fernandez. He is the top rated pitcher on the board tonight.

Analysis: Ray has quietly pitched well over the last month of play, posting a 3.25 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 23.8%. He is going to get overlooked tonight with Jose Fernandez pitching opposite him, but he could be a nice contrarian play in tournaments. The Marlins hit left-handed pitching well as a team, but those numbers are skewed thanks to Giancarlo Stanton numbers against southpaws.

Analysis: Doubront is not a recommended fantasy option. He has an above-average SIERA over the last two seasons and he has had trouble keeping the ball in the park. He draws a bad matchup tonight against the A’s, who are one of the toughest teams to strikeout in the majors. Oakland has the third-lowest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching (.272) and they average the sixth-most pitches per plate appearance.

While he doesn’t have to face them at the Rogers Centre, this is still a tough matchup. Toronto is ranked fifth in wOBA (.327) against right-handed pitching this season. At his price point, he’s an easy pitcher to avoid tonight.

Analysis: Wilson’s form has been all over the map this season. He will have one or two quality starts and then back it up with one or two bad outings. Inconsistency is not something that we are looking for in a pitcher, especially in cash games. Do the smart thing and pay up for Jose Fernandez or Lance Lynn tonight.

Minnesota
The Twins draw a decent matchup against C.J. Wilson, who has had his struggles with right-handed hitters in recent years. Brian Dozier is really the only fantasy option of note here and he is more of a secondary play at second base.

LA Angels
The Angels draw a terrific matchup against Mike Pelfrey, who gives up a ton of hits and rarely strikes anyone out. The Angels are going to be a popular stacking option tonight and for good reason. Load up on hitters in this lineup in both cash games and tournaments.
