Pittsburgh Pirates Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.300 (Rank: 22) — Strikeout Rate: 20.3% (Rank: 19)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.288 (Rank: 24) — Strikeout Rate: 21.5% (Rank: 23)
Pitchers per PA: 3.79 (Rank: 16)
Analysis: Leake is having a down season. Over the last month of play, he has a 4.19 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 14.4%. His matchup against the Pirates may appear favorable on paper, but Leake is one of the largest underdogs on the schedule tonight. He doesn’t have enough strikeout potential to make up for the few runs that he will likely give up tonight. He can be avoided in all league formats.
Pitcher Rating:54.5
Gerrit Cole : FD: $11,100 — DK: $10,500
Pitching Stats:

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.319 (Rank: 14) — Strikeout Rate: 20.0% (Rank: 16)
Pitchers per PA: 3.73 (Rank: 25)
Analysis: Cole has been terrific over the last month of play, posting a 2.86 SIERA with a high strikeout rate of 26.8%. He deserves consideration as the top pitching option on the board. The Reds have made it tough on Cole in their first two meetings, but he should be able to make some adjustments this time around. He has great strikeout potential and he’s a very large favorite at home. Cole will be the chalk play tonight in cash games.
Pitcher Rating:91.2

Cincinnati
Since the start of 2014, Gerrit Cole has held left and right-handed hitters under a .300 wOBA. The Reds have had some success against Cole in their first two meetings of the season, but a pitcher as talented as Cole will make adjustments. Avoid the Reds’ offense in all league formats.
Pittsburgh
Gregory Polanco : FD: $2,500 — DK: $4,000

Last 14 Days: PA: 38 — wOBA: 0.231 — ISO: 0.143 — wRC+: 44
Analysis: This pick hinges on where Polanco bats in the lineup. After reaching base three times in last night’s game, he will likely bat leadoff again tonight. If that’s the case, he offers terrific value as an outfielder, especially on FanDuel. He has great speed and he draws a favorable matchup against Mike Leake, who has given up a .346 wOBA to left-handed hitters over the last two seasons.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.337 (Rank: 8) — Strikeout Rate: 18.4% (Rank: 11)
Pitchers per PA: 3.73 (Rank: 22)
Analysis: Miller may have one of the lowest ERAs (1.99) in all of baseball, but his peripheral statistics tell another story. Over the last month of play, Miller has a 4.47 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 14.1%. Those numbers are mediocre at best. I’m not going to pay a premium for a pitcher that is likely going to get hit hard by regression.
Pitcher Rating:52.5
Jordan Zimmermann : FD: $8,300 — DK: $7,800

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.308 (Rank: 17) — Strikeout Rate: 17.5% (Rank: 8)
Pitchers per PA: 3.77 (Rank: 18)
Analysis: Zimmermann got off to a slow start this season, but he has pitched well over the last month of play with a 3.89 SIERA and a strikeout rate of 18.9%. I typically recommend avoiding pitchers against the Braves, but now that Freddie Freeman is on the DL, they are a targetable opponent. They have very little power in their lineup and they will likely struggle to score runs. Zimmermann is a strong play in both cash games and tournaments.
Pitcher Rating:76.6
Batter Grind Down
Atlanta
Freddie Freeman was placed on the DL, which is a huge blow to the Braves’ offense. Even though Jordan Zimmermann hasn’t been at his best this season, he is still effective against hitters from both sides of the plate. Avoid the Braves’ offense tonight.
Washington
Even though Shelby Miller isn’t as good as his ERA would suggest, he still holds hitters from both sides of the plate in check. Since the start of 2014, he has held left and right-handed hitters under a .305 wOBA. The Nationals’ hitters are secondary plays tonight.

Analysis: Norris has pitched well in his last few starts, posting a 3.64 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 20.0%. Unfortunately, his matchup against the Red Sox takes him out of consideration tonight. The Red Sox are ranked 6th in wOBA (.324) and 1st in strikeout rate (15.9%) against right-handed pitching this season. They are also one of the hottest offenses in baseball, ranking 3rd in wOBA (.358) over the last 14 days of play.

Pitchers per PA: 3.78 (Rank: 17)
Analysis: Buchholz has had some bad luck this season, but his indicators look pretty solid. Over the last month of play, he has a 3.66 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 18.1%. The issue here is his matchup. The Orioles’ offense has been on fire in recent weeks, ranking 1st in wOBA (.366). Now that they are healthy, they are going to be a force in the American League East. Avoid both pitchers in what is expected to be a high scoring game.

Analysis: There are quite a few viable options on the Orioles tonight, but none as cheap as Parmelee. He is one of the cheapest outfielders on the board tonight and he has been terrific over the last couple of weeks, posting a .534 wOBA and a .522 ISO. He also draws a favorable matchup against Clay Buchholz, who has given up a .327 wOBA to left-handed hitters.

He should be hitting at the top of the Red Sox lineup tonight against Bud Norris, who has given up a .356 wOBA to left-handed hitters over the past two seasons.

Analysis: Garcia has pitched well over the last two seasons, posting a 2.89 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 20.4%. He throws a ton of strikes, which keeps his walks low and his pitch count down. He draws a difficult matchup against the Marlins, who are ranked 2nd in wOBA (.341) against left-handed pitching this season. The matchup may be a little better than it appears on paper though, as Garcia is a reverse-splits pitcher that should be able to hold the right-handed hitters on the Marlins in check.

Analysis: Latos has pitched well in his last two starts, posting a 2.93 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 29.6%. We have to trust the larger sample size here though. Even though the Cardinals have a depleted offense at the moment, they are still ranked 5th in wOBA (.328) against right-handed pitching and 6th in wOBA (.348) over the last 14 days of play. Latos is not on my radar tonight, as the risk outweighs the potential reward.

He will have his hands full tonight though, as he faces a talented Rangers’ offense in the hitter-friendly Globe Life Park. On the season, the A’s have the 4th-lowest strikeout rate against left-handed pitching.

Ben Zobrist : FD: $3,200 — DK: $4,700
Position Eligibility: FD: 2B — DK: 2B/OF
2014-15 vs. LH Pitching: PA: 217 — wOBA: 0.370 — ISO: 0.129 — wRC+: 144
Last 14 Days: PA: 54 — wOBA: 0.447 — ISO: 0.313 — wRC+: 195
Analysis: Zobrist had another big fantasy outing last night. He now has a .447 wOBA and a .313 ISO over the last two weeks. He has hit left-handed pitching well throughout his career and he draws a favorable matchup against Wandy Rodriguez, who has given up a .340 wOBA to right-handed hitters. An A’s stack could be very sneaky tonight in tournaments.

Position Eligibility: FD: 3B — DK: 3B
2014-15 vs. RH Pitching: PA: 39 — wOBA: 0.422 — ISO: 0.303 — wRC+: 170
Last 14 Days: PA: 46 — wOBA: 0.294 — ISO: 0.250 — wRC+: 80
Analysis: Gallo has been good, but not great over the last couple of weeks. Without the huge fantasy outings recently, his price has dropped on both FanDuel and DraftKings. Tonight is the night to buy low on the impressive rookie, as he draws a favorable matchup against Kendall Graveman at home. Load up on the left-handed hitters in the Rangers’ lineup tonight.
