New opportunity for Swedish Star
While there is no guarantee Mattias Janmark will stay with Tyler Seguin and Alexander Radulov, his price across the industry is hard to ignore, especially since his minutes are relatively stable no matter which line he is skating on. Janmark was productive last season, collecting 34 points in 81 games played, but it has been a relatively disappointing third season for the 26 year old as he has suffered from a poor shooting percentage (4.3%) which is far below his first two seasons (13.9% and 14%). There’s no better time for Janmark to produce than tonight.
Not much needed from this rising defenseman
Although Erik Cernak is not one to hit the scoresheet much as he has just seven points in 28 games, Erik has been far more aggressive lately with the following shot totals: 3, 2, 5, 2 and 2 in his last five games. Cernak is minimum priced across the industry and makes for a worthwhile play in all formats if interested in loading up at forward. Also, on DraftKings, he is not out of the question as a third defenseman as the youngster has shown some upside blocking shots, picking up 3 blocks twice in his last four appearances.
Top pairing for solid Finnish blue liner
Esa Lindell has a modest 20 points in 49 games, but he has benefited lately from skating with John Klingberg at even-strength. In Dallas’ final game before the All-Star break, Lindell picked up a pair of assists while logging over 27 minutes of ice time in the Stars’ 4-2 win over Winnipeg. Lindell makes for a nice compliment to Klingberg in all formats or just a way to differentiate from the premium defensemen available tonight.
This player was on a tear heading into the All-Star Break.
Heading into the All-Star Break, Artemi Panarin had 7 goals and 10 points in 9 games. Additionally, his linemates weren’t far behind him with 6 points for Cam Atkinson and 7 points for Pierre-Luc Dubois. This trio plays on the top power play unit together which gives this line full-game correlation and elite upside. Additionally, the fast start of the Buffalo Sabres has really slowed down. They are 3-6-1 in their last 10 and heading into Columbus doesn’t seem to be the best spot to turn things back around.

Jaroslav Halak was one of the best goalies in the NHL for the first few months of the season, but his play has faded in December and January. It’s possible the All-Star break was just what he needed to reset. At home this year, he sports a 9-3-0 record and a 2.29 GAA. Tonight, he faces a Jets team on the second of a back-to-back and also struggled last night against the Flyers. I expect Halak and the Bruins to control the play and pick up a win at home.
This centre leads his team in points per game despite an injury.
Patrice Bergeron leads the Boston Bruins in points per game at 1.24 with 41 points and 33 games. Additionally, his wingers — David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand — have also been dominant. Pastrnak leads the Bruins in goals with 27, points with 56 and shots with 184 in 49 games. Marchand is second in all three categories with 19 goals, 53 points and 147 shots. This trio play on the top power play unit together as well as Bergeron and Marchand play on the PK together which gives those two and this entire line elite upside.

The New York Rangers host the Philadelphia Flyers who are on the tail-end of a back to back. The Flyers defeated the Winnipeg Jets last night, which bodes well for the Rangers as the Flyers should be tired. Chris Kreider, Mats Zuccarello and Brett Howden are playing together as the Rangers top line but it is a Kreider/Zuccarello mini-stack that is the most appealing. Kreider leads the team in goals with 22, Zucc leads the team in points with 44 and the two are leading the team in shots. Additionally, they play on the top power play unit together which gives them further correlation.

Rookie heating up again. After a six game drought, Filip Chytil has come alive recently with three goals and two assists in his last six games. Surprisingly, the Rangers have won 4 of their last 6 games. Chytil skates on the third line which lowers his value a bit, but Philadelphia’s bottom six is nothing to fear. Moreover, Chytil sees decent power play minutes and will fly under the radar even on a three game slate. He’s a worthy target in tournaments.
Affordable winger gains exposure to top power play unit
Jake DeBrusk hasn’t really matched his efficiency from last season, but he has a nice opportunity tonight against a Jets’ squad which is on short rest. Winnipeg has had issues staying out of the box all season long, and a shooter like DeBrusk can capitalize, especially when playing on the Bruins’ loaded top power play unit. DeBrusk has been relatively quiet lately, but as a whole the Bruins have too. Accordingly, his price has come down which makes him a nice target in tournaments in a power play stack.
Increased minutes for young defenseman?
At the time of writing this, we do not know the status of Shayne Gostisbehere who was a late scratch against the Winnipeg Jets last night. If Ghost misses again, Ivan figures to be in line for a heavier workload as last night he logged his second most ice time of the season (28:03). Even if Ghost suits up, Provorov is a nice play on this short slate which lacks the usual top blue liners. Ivan has been a big disappointment this season, but the matchup against the Rangers is one to exploit.
This centre is one of very few bright spots for this team this season.
Claude Giroux is the only player on the Philadelphia Flyers to eclipse 50 points before the All-Star break. In fact, he’s the only player to even put up 40 points in the teams first 48 games as Sean Couturier’s 39 points in 46 games sits second on the team. Giroux is also firing the most shots which will give him a solid floor, averaging just under three shots per game. He’s centering the top line with James Van Riemsdyk on the left and Travis Konecny on the right. JVR joins him on the top power play unit while Konecny is separated from these two as he plays on the second power play unit. The Flyers take on the Winnipeg Jets who will have the stunningly good backup Laurent Brossoit. Brossoit struggled before coming to Winnipeg, so the Flyers are hoping that is the goalie that shows up tonight. However, this line should be underowned in tournaments considering how well Brossoit has played.

After scoring 18 goals in 12 November game, Patrik Laine’s goalscoring touch has completely dried up. He has just 4 goals in 24 games since December 1st which is absolutely discouraging. However, that is the streakiness of this kind of player. He’s playing on a line with Bryan Little and Jack Roslovic which doesn’t necessarily scream optimism, but his presence on the top power play unit is always going to give him an opportunity to put the puck in the net. This is a line you might as well stack in its’ entirety as Laine is on PP1 while the other two — Little and Roslovic — are on PP2, so there is no PP1 mini-stack to take advantage of.

The Pittsburgh Penguins second line sees Evgeni Malkin centering Phil Kessel and Bryan Rust. Kessel has had a solid season with 20 goals and 53 points in 48 games with a lot of damage coming on the power play as indicated by his 23 power play points. Malkin and Kessel both play on the top power play unit, obviously, which makes for an interesting two-man mini-stack. However, the New Jersey Devils penalty kill has been elite this year, ranked second in the NHL with a 84.2 percent success rate. However, with Keith Kinkaid in net and the firepower of the Penguins power play, that is of little concern.

Oskar has picked up a point in consecutive games including a multi-point effort against the Bruins. The Flyers have quietly won four out of their last five games, and although a matchup with Winnipeg and Laurent Brossoit is tough, Lindblom is a great way to save money. He has been shooting the puck at a decent level in January, averaging nearly two shots on goal per game. He is also skating on the second line with two formidable forwards in Sean Couturier and Jakub Voracek. On this two game slate, Oskar is a worthy option.
Punt with this Winnipeg youngster
It is not pretty, but on a two game slate with must-play studs, Roslovic is one of the best sources of salary relief. He has not done much in his time with the Jets, but the matchup tonight is a decent one in a game that should be played at a fast pace. Roslovic is minimum priced across the industry and an integral piece in being able to grab Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and the like. Even if he puts up a 0, one of the studs could outscore a more balanced approach in lineup construction.
