The Nationals draw a decent matchup tonight against Aaron Nola in Citizens Bank Park. Bryce Harper (assuming he’s in the lineup) is an elite option in the outfield. Anthony Rendon is also on my radar as a cheap 2B/3B.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.323 (Rank: 15) — Strikeout Rate: 16.8% (Rank: 5)

Analysis: Volquez is a pitcher that is rarely on anyone’s fantasy radar. While he isn’t a bad pitcher, he has a below-average strikeout rate and he lacks the upside that we are looking for from a pitcher. He can safely be avoided tonight against the Indians, who have the sixth-lowest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season.

On the season, the Royals are ranked third in team wOBA and first in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. Carrasco is still in play, but he is by no means a must-start with Clayton Kershaw on the mound.

Analysis: Verrett has made 14 appearances this season, but only one as a starter. He did throw 93 pitches in that start though, so a pitch count isn’t likely going to be a big issue tonight. He is a large favorite tonight and he draws a nice matchup against the Marlins, who are ranked dead last in team wOBA against right-handed pitching. I won’t be using him on single-pitcher sites, but he is certainly a viable SP2 at that price point.
