Analysis: Volquez is a pitcher that is rarely on anyone’s fantasy radar. While he isn’t a bad pitcher, he has a below-average strikeout rate and he lacks the upside that we are looking for from a pitcher. He can safely be avoided tonight against the Indians, who have the sixth-lowest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season.

Analysis: Carrasco has been in excellent for recently, posting a 2.57 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 31.3% over the last month of play. The issue tonight is his matchup. On the season, the Royals are ranked third in team wOBA and first in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. Carrasco is still in play, but he is by no means a must-start with Clayton Kershaw on the mound.

Analysis: Verrett has made 14 appearances this season, but only one as a starter. He did throw 93 pitches in that start though, so a pitch count isn’t likely going to be a big issue tonight. He is a large favorite tonight and he draws a nice matchup against the Marlins, who are ranked dead last in team wOBA against right-handed pitching. I won’t be using him on single-pitcher sites, but he is certainly a viable SP2 at that price point.

Tampa Bay
The Rays are one of my favorite offenses to target tonight. Not only do they get to face a left-handed pitcher, but they get to face the very hittable CC Sabathia, who has given up a .386 wOBA to right-handed hitters over the last two seasons.
