Wily Peralta : FD: $6,500 — DK: $5,400

Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 281.0 — SIERA: 3.94 — ERA: 3.81 — K%: 16.8% — BB%: 7.2% — HR/9: 1.1

Cleveland Indians Offense (2015)

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.314 (Rank: 15) — Strikeout Rate: 19.1% (Rank: 8)
Pitches per PA: 3.92 (Rank: 3)

Analysis: Peralta has been one of my favorite pitchers to pick on recently. He has a 5.21 SIERA with a walk rate (8.8%) that is nearly as high as his strikeout rate (9.6%) over the last month of play. He draws a tough matchup tonight against the Indians, who are a tough team to strikeout. On the season, Cleveland is ranked 17th in team wOBA and seventh in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. Peralta should be avoided in all league formats tonight.

Pitcher Rating: 40.6

Josh Tomlin : FD: $5,700 — DK: $5,700

Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 117.1 — SIERA: 3.29 — ERA: 4.45 — K%: 21.2% — BB%: 3.2% — HR/9: 1.6

Milwaukee Brewers Offense (2015)

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.307 (Rank: 22) — Strikeout Rate: 22.5% (Rank: 23)
Pitches per PA: 3.72 (Rank: 26)

Analysis: Tomlin is an intriguing tournament play tonight against the Brewers. He has pitched well over the last two seasons, posting a 3.29 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 21.2% and he is extremely cheap tonight on both FanDuel and DraftKings. He also draws a decent matchup against the Brewers, who are ranked below the major league average in both team wOBA and strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. At his price point, he’s actually in play as an SP2 tonight on DraftKings.

Pitcher Rating: 80.9

Batter Grind Down

Milwaukee

As mentioned above, I don’t mind streaming Josh Tomlin as a tournament play or as an SP2 tonight. That doesn’t mean that we can’t target hitters against him though. Since the start of last season, Tomlin has given up a .359 wOBA to right-handed hitters. Ryan Braun and Jonathan Lucroy are both viable secondary options at their respective positions.

Cleveland

The Indians draw one of my favorite matchups on the board tonight. Wily Peralta has struggled with left-handed hitters throughout his career and he is a fly-ball pitcher. That could cause some trouble for him tonight against the Indians in Cleveland. All of the left-handed hitters in this lineup are in play tonight.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.313 (Rank: 16) — Strikeout Rate: 18.8% (Rank: 7)
Pitches per PA: 3.85 (Rank: 10)

Analysis: Santana has been awful in his last few starts, posting a 5.13 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 12.2%. He has the right matchup to get back on track tonight, but he’s a very risky fantasy option at this point. Even though the Rays are one of the worst hitting teams against right-handed pitching, there are better options at Santana’s price point. If you are going the cheap route, Josh Tomlin is a much better play tonight.

Analysis: Karns is an intriguing tournament play tonight. He has pitched very well recently, posting a 3.45 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 27.0% over the last month of play. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Twins, who are ranked 24th in team wOBA and 23rd in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. To add to the intrigue, Karns gets to face them at home in the pitcher-friendly Tropicana Field.

Pitcher Rating: 79.5

Minnesota

The Twins have some powerful bats in their lineup, but they have one of the lowest team totals on the board tonight, as they square off against Nate Karns in Tampa Bay. Karns has been effective against hitters from both sides of the plate, holding them under a .305 wOBA. I will be avoiding all Twins tonight in lieu of offenses in better matchups.

Tampa Bay

The Rays draw a favorable matchup tonight against Ervin Santana, who has really struggled over the last month of play. Analysis: Wood has been more consistent since being traded to the Dodgers, but being consistently mediocre isn’t exactly what we are looking for from a starting pitcher. Over the last month of play, he has a 4.17 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 18.9%. He draws a tough matchup tonight against the Reds, who are ranked seventh in team wOBA and ninth in strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season. Analysis: Lamb has given up a some runs in his first two major league starts, but his peripheral statistics look good. The sample size is obviously still way too small though and I always like to take a wait and see approach with these young pitchers. He can safely be avoided tonight against the Dodgers, who are ranked sixth in team wOBA against left-handed pitching this season.

LA Dodgers

John Lamb has only made two career major league starts, so it’s hard to trust any of his splits with such a small sample size. The Dodgers do have a high team total tonight though, and they have some hitters in their lineup that hit left-handed pitching very well. Justin Turner is an elite play at third base, while Adrian Gonzalez and Enrique Hernandez (especially if he’s batting at the top of the lineup) are also worth a look.

While he does see a nice ballpark boost playing anywhere other than Coors Field, that’s not enough to deserve fantasy consideration tonight. The Braves are one of the toughest teams to strikeout against right-handed pitching this season.

I’m pretty sure that I saw Foltynewicz in there at least once or twice. While I love his name, I don’t love his fantasy appeal tonight against the Rockies. Even if he doesn’t give up any runs, his fantasy performances are still mediocre thanks to that low strikeout rate. Analysis: Holland pitched well in his first start back from injury, but I’d be shocked if he was able to repeat that performance tonight. Not only does he have to pitch at home in a hitter-friendly ballpark, but he has to face the Blue Jays, who are ranked first in the majors in team wOBA against left-handed pitching. This team is stacked top to bottom and I likely won’t be taking a pitcher against them for the rest of the season.

Pitcher Rating: 53.9

Toronto

Facing a left-handed pitcher? Check. Playing in a hitter-friendly ballpark? Check. The only issue with the Blue Jays tonight is their hefty salaries. However, they should be in for another big outing here, as they have one of the highest team totals on the board tonight.

Mark Buehrle may not be the best pitcher in daily fantasy baseball, but he is actually a very good real-life pitcher. He holds both left and right-handed hitters in check and rarely gives up those huge outings. That said, the Rangers get to face him at home tonight. Adrian Beltre is a borderline elite play at third base, while the other hitters in this lineup are better secondary options.
