Which useful trend or statistic stuck out most during your research?

Notorious: Andrew Cashner’s biggest strength last season was his high ground ball rate, but it’s below 40% in 2018. He still has one of the lowest strikeout rates in baseball and has allowed a .360+ xwOBA to both left and right-handed hitters. This is a great spot for the Mariners’ offense.

Meansy53: Against lefties this season, Blake Snell has allowed only a .171 wOBA while posting a 31.7% K% and 43.1% GB%.

Stevietpfl: There is not a lot of value on DraftKings tonight, and it might make for a more balanced approach. There is a ton of value on FanDuel, and it’s going to be a completely different lineup build on there tonight. If you play on both sites, take the time that is needed today.

SBK: Andrew Cashner was an arm we’d typically target with LHBs in years past, but Cashner has been friendly to anyone holding a bat this season. He owns a miniscule 14.0% K-rate against RHBs and has not been able to keep the ball in the yard with a 1.64 HR/9 allowed to LHs and a 1.42 mark to RHs. Seattle also gets a modest park bump.

What is your hot take of the day?

Notorious: Hunter Renfroe and Wil Myers both homer.

Meansy53: The Padres score the second most runs on the slate.

Stevietpfl: Atlanta hits 4 home runs and scores 10+ runs.

SBK: Nelson Cruz homers twice

Who is your top overall pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: Justin Verlander – This is one of the weaker slates for pitching, so it makes sense to take the safety/upside combination with Verlander. In 16 starts this season, he owns a 2.95 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 32%. Tonight he’s pitching at home against the Blue Jays, who have struggled a bit on the road this season.

Meansy53: Justin Verlander – Despite a huge price tag, Verlander will be a tough fade on this slate due to how much better he is than the other guys taking the hill tonight. Out of the 20 options available, he has the highest K% (32%), highest SwStr% (13.1%), lowest BB% (5.2%), second lowest SIERA (2.97), and lowest amount of hard contact allowed (26%). Facing a Blue Jays team taking on a negative park shift only adds to the intrigue.

Stevietpfl: Justin Verlander – On FanDuel, it’s really easy to fit in Verlander, but it’s a lot harder on DraftKings. I’m looking to pair him with a cheap pitcher on DraftKings because I think he’s by far the safest option on this slate. Not only do the Blue Jays strike out a lot, they strike out even more against sliders, and Verlander uses his slider a lot against right-handed hitters.

SBK: Justin Verlander – He’s just head and shoulders above the rest of the field. Foltynewicz, Clevinger, Happ and Snell are either too expensive or stuck in tough match-ups, so despite a lack of value on DraftKings especially I’ll be doing what I can to pay for Verlander. He’s much easier to afford on FanDuel.

Who is your top overall hitter (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: Hunter Renfroe – The Padres finally have a decent lineup to throw out there against southpaws. Renfroe, Wil Myers, Christian Villanueva, and Jose Pirela all hit left-handed pitching well. San Diego sees a massive ballpark boost playing in Texas and they draw an exploitable matchup against Cole Hamels. On the season, Hamels has allowed a .357 xwOBA and a 48% hard contact rate to right-handed hitters.

Meansy53: Wil Myers – The Padres are getting a huge positive park shift in addition to the positive league shift, and Myers will be leading off for them against Cole Hamels. Hamels has seen his K% gradually decline as the season has progressed, and it currently sits at only 23.4%. However, the hard hits have remained elevated the whole year, and that is especially so against righties (47.6% Hard%). A road leadoff hitter in this ballpark with the platoon edge is going to be too much for me to pass up. The price tag on FD is especially egregious.

Stevietpfl: Freddie Freeman – I absolutely love the Braves tonight, and will have plenty of stacks with them. Tyler Mahle has struggled with left-handed hitters this season, and this is a really good ballpark for left-handed hitters. Mahle has a .402 wOBA with a .295 ISO and a 47.7% hard hit against lefties. He’s also more of a fly ball pitcher against lefties. Freeman has a .207 ISO with a .504 CXwOBA and a 48.7% hard hit rate against righties this season.

SBK: Nelson Cruz – Not only does Cruz have a solid history against Cashner to this point in their careers, but Cashner isn’t missing bats which allievates some concern over Ks for Cruz, and if he’s able to make hard contact a few times we should be rewarded.
