Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.285 (Rank: 23) — Strikeout Rate: 25.1% (Rank: 27)
Pitchers per PA: 3.68 (Rank: 29)
Analysis: Nelson has some glaring home/road splits. Like a lot of young pitchers, he is much better at home than he is on the road. The Diamondbacks may not rank highly in wOBA against right-handed pitching, but they are still a very competent offense, especially at home. Nelson should be avoided in what is expected to be a high scoring game tonight.
Pitcher Rating:61.5
Patrick Corbin : FD: $6,600 — DK: $5,900

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.360 (Rank: 3) — Strikeout Rate: 16.3% (Rank: 3)
Pitchers per PA: 3.71 (Rank: 28)
Analysis: Corbin has pitched pretty well this season, posting a 3.24 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 21.0%. He has shown good command, but I’d like to see a larger sample size before targeting him in daily fantasy. He draws a tough matchup tonight against the Brewers, who are ranked third in wOBA and third in strikeout rate over the last 14 days of play. Both pitchers can be avoided in this one, while both offenses are good targets.

The Brewers draw a favorable matchup tonight against Patrick Corbin in the hitter-friendly Chase Field. The Brewers haven’t hit left-handed pitching well as a team this season, but they have quite a few right-handed hitters that feast on southpaws. Carlos Gomez and Jonathan Lucroy are my two favorite of the bunch, but Ryan Braun, Khris Davis, and Jean Segura are also in play.

The Diamondbacks draw a favorable matchup against Jimmy Nelson, who as mentioned above, hasn’t been nearly as effective on the road as he has bene at home. Nelson gives up a much higher wOBA to left-handed hitters, making Ender Inciarte the top target here. Paul Goldschmidt and A.J. Pollock are both strong tournament options.

Pitchers per PA: 3.77 (Rank: 20)
Analysis: Lewis is one of the most hittable starting pitchers in baseball. His SIERA may not be as high as his ERA, but he continues to get knocked around by hitters from both sides of the plate. He can safely be avoided tonight against the Angels, who are ranked 14th in wOBA against right-handed pitching and fifth in wOBA over the last 14 days of play.

Pitchers per PA: 3.79 (Rank: 17)
Analysis: Tropeano will make his second start of the season tonight. He has pitched well at the Triple-A level this season and he provides good strikeout upside for the price. The issue here is his matchup. The Rangers have a very talented lineup that is ranked seventh in wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. Even though he is a large favorite tonight at home, I’m not going to have any Tropeano shares tonight.
Pitcher Rating:42.1

The Rangers draw a decent matchup tonight against Nick Tropeano, who is still largely unproven at the major league level. They aren’t the top offense to target by any means, but they are worth a look if you want to differentiate your lineups a bit.

Analysis: Haren is an interesting tournament play tonight. He hasn’t been particularly sharp recently, but he’s playing in a large ballpark against a team that has the fifth-highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. The Padres also struggle to score runs against righties, as they have the third-lowest wOBA. Haren will be on very few people’s radar tonight. While he’s not my favorite play, the matchup is certainly there for the taking.

Analysis: Cashner comes into tonight’s start in decent form, posting a 3.96 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 18.2%. If you are targeting him tonight, you are doing so for the matchup, not his recent form. The Marlins are ranked 26th in wOBA and 18th in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. Cashner also gets to face them at home, where he has had good numbers throughout his career. He should be a popular SP2 tonight on multi-pitcher sites.

The Marlins are an offense that lacks power without Giancarlo Stanton in the lineup. They can easily be avoided altogether tonight against Andrew Cashner. Analysis: Hernandez is always in play when he takes the mound. The problem tonight is twofold. First off, his matchup against the Blue Jays isn’t great, as they are ranked fourth in wOBA and ninth in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. The other issue is that there are three aces taking the mound tonight in better spots (Scherzer, Kluber, and Archer). He could certainly dominate tonight at home, but for the price, I’d rather target one of the other three aces that were just mentioned.

Analysis: Chavez hasn’t been sharp in his recent outings, posting a 5.14 ERA with a strikeout rate of 18.3% over the last month of play. He is an easy avoid tonight against a Giants’ offense that is one of the toughest in the majors to strikeout. San Francisco is ranked sixth in wOBA and fifth in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season.

Analysis: Peavy is in a similar spot as Jesse Chavez. While the run total for the game may be low, this is not a great matchup. The A’s are also one of the toughest teams to strike out in baseball. The A’s also take a lot of pitches, which drives up their opponent’s pitch count. There are better options at this price point tonight.

Oakland
The A’s draw a decent matchup tonight against Jake Peavy, but again, the total for the game is set at only 7.0 runs, so we shouldn’t expect a ton of offensive production. The left-handed hitters have the edge in this matchup, as Peavy has given up a .338 wOBA to hitters from the left side of the plate over the last two seasons.

San Francisco
The Giants draw an average matchup against Jesse Chavez, who has given up a slightly higher wOBA to left-handed hitters than he has to right-handed hitters. Brandon Belt and Joe Panik are in play, but both are better secondary options tonight.
