vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.335 (Rank: 3) — Strikeout Rate: 20.7% (Rank: 15)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.308 (Rank: 16) — Strikeout Rate: 21.5% (Rank: 24)
Pitchers per PA: 3.72 (Rank: 28)
Analysis: Anderson has pitched well this season, but he lacks that strikeout upside that we like to see from our starting pitching. Over the last month, he has a 3.96 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 13.3%. The Marlins are a common team to pick on with pitching, but they actually hit left-handed pitching very well. On the season, they are ranked third in wOBA (.335) against southpaws. Anderson is cheap across the industry, but his low strikeout potential takes him out of consideration tonight.
Pitcher Rating:61.1
Justin Nicolino : FD: $4,600 — DK: $5,700
Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 7.0 — SIERA: 5.44 — K%: 8.0% — BB%: 8.0% — FB Rate: 33.3% — HR/FB: 0.0%

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.323 (Rank: 12) — Strikeout Rate: 16.9% (Rank: 3)
Pitchers per PA: 3.89 (Rank: 6)
Analysis: Nicolino is making his second career major league start tonight. He pitched seven scoreless innings in his debut, but he’s not a big-time prospect. In 13 minor league starts this season, he had a 4.79 xFIP with a low strikeout rate of 13.9%. I’m going to need to see more from him before recommending him as a fantasy option. He should be avoided tonight against the Dodgers, who made quick work of a much better left-handed pitcher in Jon Lester yesterday.

Miami
Since the start of 2014, Brett Anderson has held left and right-handed hitters under a .310 wOBA. While the Marlins do hit left-handed pitching well as a team, we shouldn’t go overboard here. Giancarlo Stanton deserves consideration as an elite play thanks to his terrific power numbers against southpaws, but the other Marlins’ hitters are secondary options tonight.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.285 (Rank: 25) — Strikeout Rate: 21.1% (Rank: 21)
Pitchers per PA: 3.84 (Rank: 8)
Analysis: Cueto has been sharp in his recent outings, posting a 3.00 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 25.5%. He has a low walk rate and tonight’s matchup in Citi Field should help him keep the ball in the park. He draws a terrific matchup against the Mets, who are ranked 28th in wOBA (.289) and 22nd in strikeout rate (20.7%). You will never see me talking you out of taking a high-strikeout pitcher against a bad offensive team in a pitcher-friendly ballpark.
Pitcher Rating:89.0

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.308 (Rank: 16) — Strikeout Rate: 20.0% (Rank: 17)
Pitchers per PA: 3.73 (Rank: 24)
Analysis: Syndergaard’s ERA is a full run higher than his SIERA this season, which has kept his price at a very playable level on both FanDuel and DraftKings. On the season, he owns a 3.11 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 24.9%. Another small bonus is that he can handle the bat pretty well, which is huge because, well, the Mets’ offense isn’t any good. Syndergaard is a small underdog tonight against the Reds, but at this price point, he deserves consideration as a tournament play.

Cincinnati
The Reds draw a difficult matchup tonight against Noah Syndergaard and they have to face him in the pitcher-friendly Citi Field. The Reds have the 11th-lowest team total on the board and could easily be avoided altogether tonight. Joey Votto may be worth a look as a secondary option in tournaments.

NY Mets
Since the start of 2014, Johnny Cueto has held left and right-handed hitters under a .275 wOBA. The Mets’ offense already struggles to score runs and they will have a difficult time tonight against the elite pitcher that is Mr. Cueto. Avoid the Mets in all league formats tonight.

Analysis: Porcello is an average right-handed pitcher with a below-average strikeout rate. He throws a lot of strikes, but unfortunately a lot of those get put into play for hits. He draws a favorable matchup against the Rays tonight, but he doesn’t have enough upside to deserve consideration. Porcello can be avoided in both cash games and tournaments.

Pitchers per PA: 3.96 (Rank: 2)
Analysis: Colome will have a good outing every now and then, but he’s inconsistent and he has a very low strikeout rate. That’s not a great combination for a pitcher in daily fantasy. He draws a tough matchup tonight against the Red Sox, who are ranked seventh in wOBA (.324) and second in strikeout rate (16.3%) against right-handed pitching this season. Even though this game has a fairly low run total, both pitchers should be avoided tonight.
Pitcher Rating:39.2
Batter Grind Down
Boston
Alex Colome may not be the best pitcher to take the mound tonight, but he has been fairly effective against left and right-handed hitters, holding both under a .320 wOBA since the start of last season. The Red Sox offense has been hitting the ball well recently, but they are a bit overpriced for their matchup in an average hitter’s park.

The Rays draw a decent matchup tonight against Rick Porcello, who has given up a .327 wOBA to left-handed hitters. The Rays may not hit right-handed pitching that well as a team, but they have a few bats in their lineup that hit righties well. Analysis: May continues to pitch well for the Twins, yet no one seems to notice. Over the last month, he has a 3.37 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 24.0%. During that stretch, he has only walked 5.8% of the batters that he has faced, which means his K/BB ratio is above 4. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Brewers, who are ranked 26th in wOBA (.290) and 25th in strikeout rate (21.5%) against right-handed pitching this season. He’s a steal for the price, I’m just not sure I’m ready to roll him out in cash games. He’s definitely worth a look in tournaments though.

Analysis: Lohse is one of those pitchers that is never targeted in daily fantasy. He has an mediocre SIERA of 4.06 with a below-average strikeout rate of 17.3% since the start of last season. He draws a decent matchup against the Twins tonight, but I’d rather target a pitcher with a little more upside. If you are looking to take a flier on a pitcher in this game, Trevor May is the better fantasy option of the two.

Kyle Lohse is a fly-ball pitcher with an above-average HR/FB rate. The Twins get to face him in the hitter-friendly Miller Park. Even though they don’t hit right-handed pitching well as a team, they are in a favorable spot tonight and they will likely fly under the radar. Looking for a contrarian stack that could really put up some runs tonight? How about the Twins?

Even though the splits for Trevor May look awfully enticing, I expect him to experience some positive regression in the second half of the season. His BABIP over .350 over the last two seasons is extremely high. The Brewers have struggled against right-handed pitching all season and as I mentioned above, I think May is a nice tournament option tonight. I see the Brewers as secondary plays tonight at home.

Analysis: Eovaldi throws a great fastball, but it it has never resulted in a high strikeout rate. Over the last month, he has a 4.12 SIERA with a very low strikeout rate of 12.7%. He draws a difficult matchup tonight against the Astros, who lead the majors in home runs this season. The Astros also come into tonight’s game with a .371 wOBA over the last two weeks, which is the second-best of any team in baseball. There is more risk than potential reward with Eovaldi tonight.

New York Yankees Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.335 (Rank: 3) — Strikeout Rate: 18.8% (Rank: 8)

Pitchers per PA: 3.89 (Rank: 5)
Analysis: Velasquez is yet another Astros’ prospect looking to make a name for himself in the majors. He has shown a great ability to strike batters out in his first few starts, but he has really struggled with his command, walking 17.2% of the batters that he has faced. There will be a time to deploy Velasquez in tournaments, but not yet. He draws one of the most difficult matchups on the board, as the Yankees are ranked third in wOBA (.355) against right-handed pitching and second in wOBA (.371) over the last 14 days.
Pitcher Rating:55.8
Batter Grind Down
NY Yankees
The sample size is still small, but Vincent Velasquez has given up a .387 wOBA to left-handed hitters this season. The Yankees offense has been red-hot over the last few weeks and they get to face an inexperienced pitcher in a home run-friendly ballpark. The Yankees can be targeted in both cash games and tournaments tonight.

Houston
The Astros draw a favorable matchup tonight against Nathan Eovaldi at home. Eovaldi has given up a much higher wOBA to left-handed hitters though, which is why Luis Valbuena is the only elite play listed below. The right-handed bats in this lineup are also in play, but they are secondary options tonight at home.
