Jonathan Gray : FD: $4,600 — DK: $5,600
Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 4.0 — SIERA: 3.58 — ERA: 4.50 — K%: 21.1% — BB%: 10.5% — HR/9: 0.0
New York Mets Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.297 (Rank: 26) — Strikeout Rate: 20.4% (Rank: 19)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.324 (Rank: 16) — Strikeout Rate: 23.3% (Rank: 29)
Pitchers per PA: 3.88 (Rank: 6)
Analysis: Gray is making his second career major league start tonight. He gave up two earned runs in his first outing against the Mariners in which he threw 77 pitches. He is the Rockies’ top pitching prospect. In 20 starts at the Triple-A level this season, Gray has posted a 3.90 FIP with a strikeout rate of 21.1%. He’s a pitcher that we should keep our eye on moving forward, but it’s tough to predict how well and how deep he is going to pitch into tonight’s game. Gray is a deep tournament play at best against the Mets.
Pitcher Rating: 53.3
Jon Niese : FD: $7,800 — DK: $6,800

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.349 (Rank: 5) — Strikeout Rate: 24.0% (Rank: 30)
Pitchers per PA: 3.76 (Rank: 23)
Analysis: Niese is back in good form over the last month of play, posting a 3.75 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 15.5% over the last month of play. He draws a terrific matchup tonight against the Rockies, who are ranked 27th in team wOBA and 28th in team strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season. Niese is a sizable favorite tonight at home in a game that features a total of only 7.0 runs. Dollar for dollar, he may be the best value on the board. He makes a terrific SP2 to pair with Chris Sale on multi-pitcher sites.
Pitcher Rating: 68.7

Colorado
The Rockies have been awful against left-handed pitching this season, which is a bit surprising considering the fact that half of their games are played in Coors Field. The Rockies have one of the lowest team totals on the board tonight, as they square off against Jon Niese in Citi Field. If you are targeting any hitters in this matchup, target the ones that can hit from the right side of the plate, as Niese has allowed a .329 wOBA to right-handed hitters over the last two seasons.

NY Mets
The Mets’ offense has been better since acquiring Yoenis Cespedes. Over the last 14 days of play, they are ranked 16th in team wOBA. They draw a favorable matchup tonight against Jon Gray, who is only making his second career major league start. If the Rockies decide to limit Gray again tonight, the Mets will see plenty of their bullpen. Hitters from both sides of the plate are in play tonight.

Analysis: Boyd is making his fourth career major league start tonight. He hasn’t had much success in the majors, but he has a 3.48 FIP with a strikeout rate of 24.2% in six starts at the Triple-A level this season. The biggest issue tonight is hit matchup against the Royals, who are the toughest team to strikeout in baseball. Boyd is a large underdog on the road and he can safely be avoided in all league formats tonight.
Pitcher Rating: 25.8
Johnny Cueto : FD: $10,400 — DK: $10,300

Analysis: Cueto has pitched good, but not great in his first two starts with the Royals. He has had two difficult matchups though and tonight he finally gets to pitch at home in the pitcher-friendly Kaufmann Stadium. Cueto has good strikeout potential tonight and he is the largest favorite on the board. He may not have as much upside as Chris Sale, but he is the clear number two pitching option tonight.

The Tigers draw a difficult matchup tonight against Johnny Cueto, who has held both. left and right-handed hitters under a .270 wOBA over the last two seasons. The Tigers were able to score two runs against Cueto in their last meeting, but that game was played in Detroit. The advantage goes to Cueto now that the game is being played in Kansas City.

The Royals draw a favorable matchup tonight against Matt Boyd, who is still inexperienced at the major league level. The Royals have the second-highest team total on the board. The right-handed hitters have the edge in this matchup, but Eric Hosmer is also in play, as he is a left-handed hitter that hits left-handed pitching well.

Analysis: Shoemaker has been terrific over the last month of play, posting a 2.29 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 37.3%. He is finally starting to show the consistency that the Angels have wanted from him all season. He draws an interesting matchup tonight against the White Sox. Although they have been one of the best offenses in baseball recently, they are still only ranked 20th in team wOBA against right-handed pitching. Run support is a big issue tonight with Chris Sale pitching opposite him, but Shoemaker makes a strong contrarian play in tournaments.

Analysis: Sale may have a 6.16 ERA over the last month of play, but his indicators suggest that he is the same pitcher that he has been all season. During that same time period, Sale has a 2.76 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 27.9%. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Angels, who are ranked 22nd in team wOBA against left-handed pitching this season. Sale is the top pitching option on the board tonight and he is the easy chalk play for cash games.

LA Angels
The Angels draw the worst matchup on the board tonight, as they square off against Chris Sale in U.S. Cellular Field. Since the start of the 2014 season, Sale has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .275 wOBA. Mike Trout is about as matchup-proof of a player as you are going to find in baseball, though. He is a large favorite tonight against the Phillies, but they are a team that continues to ruin opposing pitcher’s fantasy outings. San Diego Padres Offense (2015)
vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.282 (Rank: 27) — Strikeout Rate: 24.8% (Rank: 30)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.302 (Rank: 20) — Strikeout Rate: 21.9% (Rank: 21)
Pitchers per PA: 3.83 (Rank: 12)
Analysis: Holmberg is making his ninth career major league start tonight. His first eight starts haven’t gone very well, as he has a 5.36 SIERA with a walk rate (12.1%) that is nearly as high as his strikeout rate (13.7%). Even though he sees a sizable ballpark shift in his favor tonight in Petco Park, he is still one of the worst pitching options on the board.
Pitcher Rating: 39.3
Ian Kennedy : FD: $7,800 — DK: $8,200

Cincinnati Reds Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.311 (Rank: 14) — Strikeout Rate: 18.8% (Rank: 6)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.299 (Rank: 21) — Strikeout Rate: 20.8% (Rank: 16)
Pitchers per PA: 3.74 (Rank: 24)
Analysis: Kennedy has pitched well over the last month of play, posting a 3.70 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 21.4%. He draws a tough matchup tonight against the Reds, though, who are ranked 14th in team wOBA and sixth in team strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. Kennedy makes a nice tournament play tonight, but if you are looking for an SP2, Jon Niese is in a slightly better matchup at the same price point.
Pitcher Rating: 70.8

Cincinnati
The Reds draw a mediocre matchup tonight against Ian Kennedy. While the ballpark isn’t great for offensive production, Kennedy has given up a .321+ wOBA to both left and right-handed hitters over the last two seasons. Joey Votto is a borderline elite play, while Todd Frazier is a better target for tournaments.

San Diego
The Padres draw a favorable matchup tonight against David Holmberg, who has given up a .329+ wOBA to both left and right-handed hitters over the last two seasons. The biggest issue here is that the Padres are still the Padres. Since they are playing at home in the pitcher-friendly Petco Park, they should be considered secondary options tonight.
