New York Yankees Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.329 (Rank: 4) — Strikeout Rate: 19.0% (Rank: 9)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.360 (Rank: 3) — Strikeout Rate: 17.8% (Rank: 9)
Pitchers per PA: 3.89 (Rank: 4)
Analysis: Correia has pitched well in his first two starts of the season, but I’ll trust the bigger sample size in his case. Since the start of the 2014 season, he has a 4.65 SIERA with a very low strikeout rate of 11.9%. During that stretch, he has given up a .344+ wOBA to batters from the both sides of the plate. Tonight he runs into a buzz saw that is the Yankees’ offense. They are ranked 4th in wOBA (.329) against right-handed pitching and 3rd in wOBA (.360) over the last 14 days.
Pitcher Rating:28.4
Michael Pineda : FD: $10,100 — DK: $9,300

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.277 (Rank: 26) — Strikeout Rate: 17.7% (Rank: 7)
Pitchers per PA: 3.73 (Rank: 26)
Analysis: Pineda is coming off of a terrific start against the Marlins, striking out nine batters while only giving up one run. He has really pitched well over the last month of play, posting a 3.09 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 25.2%. He has good velocity and he is generating a swinging strike rate of 11.5%. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Phillies, who are ranked dead last in wOBA (.274) against right-handed pitching and 26th in wOBA (.277) over the last 14 days. Pineda may be the safest pitching option on the board tonight.
Pitcher Rating:86.1
Batter Grind Down
Philadelphia
Over the past two seasons, Michael Pineda has held left and right-handed hitters under a .280 wOBA. Even after a big offensive outing against Michael Wacha and the Cardinals on Sunday, the Phillies are still ranked dead last in wOBA against right-handed pitching. They can safely be avoided in all league formats tonight.
NY Yankees
Brett Gardner : FD: $4,200 — DK: $5,200

Analysis: Gardner has been red-hot over the last four games with nine hits, five RBI, and six runs. He has decent power for a leadoff hitter (.186 ISO) and he gives you the added bonus of speed (15 stolen bases this season). As mentioned above, the Yankees’ offense is in a great spot tonight against Kevin Correia, who has given up a .344+ wOBA to both left and right-handed hitters over the last two seasons.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.273 (Rank: 28) — Strikeout Rate: 20.3% (Rank: 16)
Pitchers per PA: 3.93 (Rank: 3)
Analysis: Ryan has been a serviceable starter for the Indians this season, but he doesn’t have high strikeout potential. In 29.2 career innings of work in the major leagues, he has a 4.36 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 11.9%. He has had trouble keeping the ball in the park and he draws a difficult matchup tonight against the Indians. On the season, Cleveland is ranked 10th in wOBA (.316) and 2nd in strikeout rate (16.7%) against left-handed pitching.
Pitcher Rating:35.6
Trevor Bauer : FD: $8,700 — DK: $7,500

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.335 (Rank: 9) — Strikeout Rate: 21.0% (Rank: 20)
Pitchers per PA: 3.84 (Rank: 9)
Analysis: Bauer has great strikeout potential, but he hasn’t been able to avoid those big innings this season. Over the last month of play, he has a 4.14 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 23.5%. He is typically a strong play at home, but he draws one of the most difficult matchups on the board. The Tigers are ranked 8th in wOBA (.323) and 9th in strikeout rate (19.0%) against right-handed pitching this season. Yesterday was a great example of what the Tigers can do to good pitching (Masahiro Tanaka). It’s worth the extra salary to pay up for one of the three aces on the bump tonight.

Last 14 Days: PA: 13 — wOBA: 0.418 — ISO: 0.250 — wRC+: 171
Analysis: Martinez has played well since coming back from injury, posting a .418 wOBA and a .250 ISO. A few weeks from now, his price on FanDuel will be closer to $4,000 and his price on DraftKings will be closer to $5,000. Take advantage of the discounted price while you can. Martinez is one of the toughest hitters in baseball to strikeout, which should help him against a pitcher that relies on strikeouts for success.

Last 14 Days: PA: 50 — wOBA: 0.252 — ISO: 0.182 — wRC+: 60
Analysis: Santana has not hit the ball well in recent weeks, posting a .252 wOBA with a .182 ISO. While that’s a little concerning, I love his cheap price point on both FanDuel and DraftKings. Santana has a great track record against southpaws throughout his career and he draws a favorable matchup tonight against the inexperienced Kyle Ryan.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.316 (Rank: 14) — Strikeout Rate: 20.0% (Rank: 14)
Pitchers per PA: 3.84 (Rank: 10)
Analysis: Hutchison is a high-strikeout pitcher that sees a major ballpark boost going from the hitter-friendly Rogers Centre to the pitcher-friendly Tropicana Field. Over the last two seasons, Hutchison has a 3.66 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 22.4%. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Rays, who are ranked 22nd in wOBA (.300) and 24th in strikeout rate (20.8%) against right-handed pitching this season. Hutchison is not a large favorite though, which is why he makes a better target in tournaments rather than cash games.

Pitchers per PA: 3.80 (Rank: 14)
Analysis: Andriese has pitched well this season, but he has yet to throw more than 85 pitches. He will likely be on a pitch count tonight against the Blue Jays, who just so happen to be one of the best offenses in baseball. They are ranked 3rd in wOBA (.333) against right-handed pitching and 2nd in wOBA (.364) in the last 14 days. The risk outweighs the potential reward tonight with Andriese.

Analysis: Reyes is a switch-hitter that should be able to take advantage of Matt Andriese struggles against left-handed hitters. Andriese has given up a .371 wOBA to batters that hit from the left side. Reyes is an expensive shortstop option, but he is the leadoff man on a very potent offense. If he gets on base, there is a good chance the guys behind him are going to bring him around to score.

Analysis: Kiermaier has never played well when he has been a feature in the Grind Down, but we will try to buck the curse tonight. He is cheap, he should be batting leadoff, and he has played well over the last 14 days with a .341 wOBA. Pitchers per PA: 3.99 (Rank: 1)
Analysis: There will be a lot of doubt surrounding Kershaw tonight. His ERA is nearly double that of what it was in 2014 and the wind is blowing out to center field tonight at Wrigley. First, let’s tackle the ERA issue. While he has obviously given up more runs this season, his indicators are nearly identical to those of 2014. Over the last month of play, he has a 2.12 SIERA with a ridiculous strikeout rate of 35.0%. Now on to the wind issue. The wind can turn an average fly ball into a home run at Wrigley, but it shouldn’t impact Kershaw’s strikeout potential. Michael Pineda may be the better play dollar for dollar, but I still have Kershaw ranked as my top pitching option on the board tonight.
Pitcher Rating:92.5

Pitchers per PA: 3.89 (Rank: 5)
Analysis: Wada has been a tough pitcher to predict recently. After failing to get out of the fourth inning against the Reds and the Nationals, he bounced back by pitching seven shutout innings against the Indians. He has decent strikeout potential, but his stuff isn’t all that electric. He draws an average matchup tonight against the Dodgers, who finally have some of their best right-handed hitters back in their lineup (Puig and Van Slyke). Add in the wind and the fact that he’s a large underdog, and he can safely be avoided in all league formats.

Chicago Cubs
Even though the wind is blowing out to center at Wrigley Field tonight, the Cubs are better tournament plays than cash games options against Clayton Kershaw. The wind obviously helps, but you still have to make good contact, which is tough to do against Kershaw. Avoid the Cubs in cash games, but use them sparingly in tournaments.

Minnesota Twins Offense (2015)
vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.306 (Rank: 17) — Strikeout Rate: 19.2% (Rank: 8)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.284 (Rank: 22) — Strikeout Rate: 18.7% (Rank: 11)
Pitchers per PA: 3.79 (Rank: 15)
Analysis: Danks is one of my favorite pitchers to target in daily fantasy baseball. The problem is that I like to target the batters that are facing him. He has an average SIERA (4.58) with a below average strikeout rate (15.0%). He can safely be avoided tonight against the Twins, who are ranked 17th in wOBA (.306) and 8th in strikeout rate (19.2%) against left-handed pitching this season.
Pitcher Rating:40.8
Tommy Milone : FD: $6,500 — DK: $6,000

Chicago White Sox Offense (2015)
vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.240 (Rank: 30) — Strikeout Rate: 23.9% (Rank: 28)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.264 (Rank: 30) — Strikeout Rate: 22.8% (Rank: 26)
Pitchers per PA: 3.73 (Rank: 24)
Analysis: Milone has been sharp in his last two starts, giving up a combined three earned runs while striking out 13 batters over 14 innings of work. He hasn’t had great strikeout potential in the past, but he draws a plus-matchup against the White Sox tonight. Chicago is ranked dead last in wOBA (.240) and 28th in strikeout rate (23.9%) against left-handed pitching this season. I won’t be targeting Milone in cash games, but he’s worth a look as a cheap pitching option in tournaments.

Jose Abreu : FD: $3,400 — DK: $5,100

Last 14 Days: PA: 51 — wOBA: 0.401 — ISO: 0.204 — wRC+: 157
Analysis: Abreu is still only $3,400 on FanDuel and he still gets overlooked on a nightly basis. Abreu has crushed left-handed pitching throughout his career with a .420 wOBA and a .273 ISO. He also draws a favorable matchup tonight against Tommy Milone, who has given up a .343 wOBA to right-handed hitters in the last two seasons. As a team the White Sox struggle against left-handed pitching, but I don’t mind target a few of the right-handed hitters in their lineup tonight.

Last 14 Days: PA: 55 — wOBA: 0.334 — ISO: 0.217 — wRC+: 113
Analysis: I’ll give you a little piece of advice for tonight: load up on the right-handed hitters in the Twins’ lineup. Since the start of last season, John Danks has given up a .365 wOBA to right-handed hitters. During that same stretch, Brian Dozier has a .359 wOBA and a .227 ISO against southpaws. The Twins have one of the highest team totals on the board and they will likely get overlooked tonight because they are, well, the Twins.
