The RotoGrinders MLB Grind Down article will give you an in-depth analysis into the MLB schedule. This article will break down the numbers for every single game and give you analysis on which trends you can exploit. While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy baseball, there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, weather, and salaries.
The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. No sport has more variance than baseball. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time.

Analysis: Corbin has had a nice season for the Diamondbacks, but he will take his turn in the rotation in Coors Field. The total for this game is set at 11 runs, which is the highest total on the schedule today. Even though the Rockies haven’t fared well against southpaws this season, Corbin is an easy avoid in all league formats.

Analysis: Flande has been in decent form recently, but the Diamondbacks have the highest team total on the board today. On the season, Arizona is ranked ninth in team wOBA against left-handed pitching and Flande has to face them at home in the hitter’s dream that is Coors Field. Avoid Flande in what is expected to be a shootout.

Arizona
The Diamondbacks draw a terrific matchup today against Yohan Flande in the hitter-friendly Coors Field. If you are playing in the all-day slate of games, you should try to get as much exposure to the Diamondbacks as possible. Since the start of last season, Flande has given up a .346 wOBA to right-handed hitters.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.269 (Rank: 29) — Strikeout Rate: 25.0% (Rank: 26)
Pitches per PA: 3.81 (Rank: 15)
Analysis: Smyly has not pitched well since coming back from injury, posting a 4.65 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 16.2% over the last month of play. He draws a decent matchup tonight against the Orioles, but unfortunately, he has to face them on the road in the hitter-friendly Camden Yards. At this point, we should continue to avoid Smyly until he shows us better form.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.311 (Rank: 19) — Strikeout Rate: 19.1% (Rank: 10)
Pitches per PA: 3.84 (Rank: 11)
Analysis: Tillman has not pitched well over the last month of play, posting a 4.74 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 12.6%. While he does draw a favorable matchup against the Rays, his upside is somewhat limited thanks to his low strikeout rate. The good news is that he is cheap and that he is a small favorite at home. Tillman makes a decent SP2 on multi-pitcher sites, but with a full slate of games tonight, I will likely be looking elsewhere.

Analysis: Anderson may have a 4.30 ERA on the season, but that’s about all that he has going in his favor. He has one of the lowest strikeout rates (11.4%) of starting pitcher and he has struggled to keep the ball in the park. In case you haven’t noticed, the Blue Jays have been hitting home runs left and right recently. Anderson should not be on anyone’s radar tonight.

He draws a difficult matchup tonight against the Indians, who are ranked 13th in team wOBA and seventh in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. There are better pitching options at his price point.

The Indians picked up a rare win in Toronto last night. To make matters worse, he has to face a red-hot Mets’ offense that is ranked second in team wOBA over the last two weeks of play. Harang is an easy avoid in all league formats tonight.

He has had his struggles on the road, but he has been a nice value play at home in the pitcher-friendly Citi Field. He is a monster favorite tonight at home against the Phillies, who are an average offense against left-handed pitching. Niese is cheap and he should be able to pick up a win.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.305 (Rank: 21) — Strikeout Rate: 22.8% (Rank: 22)
Pitches per PA: 3.78 (Rank: 21)
Analysis: Nicolino has not pitched well in his first 37 innings of major league action. He owns a 5.42 SIERA with a strikeout rate of only 8.0%. When a pitcher has such a low strikeout rate, he needs a near perfect outing to pay off his salary in daily fantasy. While the Braves do struggle against left-handed pitching, the risk greatly outweighs the potential reward with Nicolino tonight.
Pitcher Rating: 36.7
Manuel Banuelos : FD: $5,700 — DK: $5,400

Pitches per PA: 3.72 (Rank: 29)
Analysis: Banuelos has had a decent stint in the majors this season, posting a 4.82 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 17.2%. He draws a difficult matchup tonight against the Marlins, who are ranked eighth in team wOBA and 15th in strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season. Banuelos is cheap, but he’s not on my radar tonight.

The Marlins may not have a ton of power in their lineup, but they are still one of the best hitting teams against left-handed pitching this season. The right-handed bats of Martin Prado and Cole Gillespie are both in play against Manny Banuelos.

Atlanta
The Braves were a big disappointment last night, but they draw an equally favorable matchup tonight against Justin Nicolino, who is a low-strikeout pitcher that has given up a .330 wOBA to right-handed hitters. Adonis Garcia and Pedro Ciriaco are both viable punt plays at their respective positions.

Pitches per PA: 3.97 (Rank: 2)
Analysis: Pineda did not fare well in his first start back from injury and he will likely be in for another rough outing tonight. When the Yankees and Red Sox meet up, there are usually a lot of runs scored. On the season, Boston is ranked tenth in team wOBA and second in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. Pineda is overpriced for tonight’s game in Fenway.

Analysis: Porcello pitched well in his first start back from injury, but overall, he has had a disappointing season for the Red Sox. He draws a tough matchup tonight against the Yankees, who are ranked third in team wOBA and 11th in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. Even at his discounted price point, Porcello can be avoided in both cash games and tournaments.
Pitcher Rating: 55.4

Boston
The Red Sox may not have the best matchup on paper, but Michael Pineda is only making his second start back from injury and Vegas is projecting Boston’s offense to have some success in this one. David Ortiz remains an elite play at first base, while Travis Shaw is an interesting tournament play at third base.
