Alfredo Simon : FD: $7,400 — DK: $5,700

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.299 (Rank: 24) — Strikeout Rate: 21.1% (Rank: 17)
Pitchers per PA: 3.87 (Rank: 8)
Analysis: Simon comes into tonight’s start in horrendous form, posting a 5.51 SIERA with a walk rate (9.8%) that is higher than his strikeout rate (8.8%) over the last month of play. Not only is he in bad form, but he also has one of the worst matchups on the board. The Astros are ranked seventh in team wOBA against right-handed pitching and they lead the majors in home runs.
Pitcher Rating: 35.1
Dallas Keuchel : FD: $10,700 — DK: $11,000
Pitching Stats:
2014 – 2015: IP: 364.2 — SIERA: 2.95 — ERA: 2.69 — K%: 19.9% — BB%: 6.0% — HR/9: 0.5

Detroit Tigers Offense (2015)
vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.339 (Rank: 2) — Strikeout Rate: 22.2% (Rank: 22)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.326 (Rank: 9) — Strikeout Rate: 19.9% (Rank: 9)
Pitchers per PA: 3.85 (Rank: 11)
Analysis: Keuchel is one of the largest favorites on the board tonight and for good reason. He has been terrific over the last month of play, posting a 2.45 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 26.6%. The Tigers have good numbers against left-handed pitching, but some of that is skewed by Miguel Cabrera and Yoenis Cespedes, who won’t be in the lineup tonight. Keuchel is an elite ground-ball pitcher that has improved his strikeout rate this season. He will likely be the least owned of the pitchers priced above $10,000 tonight, yet he is actually one of the safest.
Pitcher Rating: 88.9
Batter Grind Down
Detroit
The Tigers are one of my least favorite offenses to target tonight. Since the start of the 2014 season, Keuchel has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .290 wOBA. Avoid the Tigers’ offense, as they will fear the beard of Dallas.

Analysis: Koehler has been a serviceable starter for the Marlins, but there are only a few times during the season that he should be on our radar. Tonight’s matchup against the Cardinals in St. Louis is not one of those times. On the season, the Cardinals are ranked 12th in team wOBA and eighth in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.292 (Rank: 25) — Strikeout Rate: 17.2% (Rank: 4)
Pitchers per PA: 3.72 (Rank: 27)
Analysis: Garcia may not be pitching as well as his 2.00 ERA over the last month would suggest, but he is still pitching well. The Marlins have good numbers against southpaws this season, but it’s hard not to like Garcia when you look at Miami’s lineup. He is a large favorite, he is pitching at home, and he is economically priced. Garcia is a viable SP2 tonight on multi-pitcher sites.
Pitcher Rating: 83.9

The Marlins draw a difficult matchup tonight against Jaime Garcia, who is actually very efficient against right-handed hitters. They have one of the lowest team totals on the board and can be avoided in all league formats tonight.

St. Louis
The Cardinals draw a favorable matchup tonight against Tom Koehler at home. The issue here isn’t the matchup, its the availability of other options. With a game in Coors and a few other that have run totals of nine or more, it’s hard to label any of the Cardinals’ hitters as elite plays.

San Diego
The Padres are favorites in Coors Field. Generally, when that happens, you are going to have the highest team total on the board and that’s the case tonight. Yohan Flande has given up a .342 wOBA to right-handed hitters over the last two seasons, so all of the right-handed bats in this lineup are in play.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.344 (Rank: 5) — Strikeout Rate: 21.2% (Rank: 18)

Analysis: Lamb will be making his major league debut tonight. He is a good prospect, posting a 3.58 FIP with a strikeout rate of 25.1% in 17 Triple-A starts this season. The Reds acquired him in the Johnny Cueto trade. The price point is appealing, but the matchup is not. The Dodgers are ranked sixth in team wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. The best route is to take a wait-and-see approach with Lamb.

He draws a difficult matchup tonight against the Reds, who are ranked eighth in team wOBA and tenth in strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season. There are better pitching options at his price point tonight.

It’s always difficult to predict how pitchers are going to fare in their major league debuts. You don’t know if their nerves will get the best of them and you don’t know if their opponent has enough information to make a good game plan at the plate. While I expect him to pitch well again tonight, I’m not sure that I want to pay up for him in a road start against the Giants, who are ranked fourth in both team wOBA and strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. Scherzer is a better play on FanDuel ($11,400) than he is on DraftKings ($14,600), but he may be a little overpriced for his matchup.

Analysis: Cain has not pitched well recently, posting a 4.69 SIERA with a strikeout rate of only 13.9% over the last month of play. He draws a decent matchup against the Nationals, but he is actually a sizable underdog with Max Scherzer pitching opposite him. I will be avoiding Cain in all league formats tonight.

Washington
The Nationals draw a mediocre matchup against Matt Cain. While he hasn’t pitched all that well this season, there are better matchups on the board to exploit. Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon are both secondary options at their respective positions.

San Francisco
The Giants draw one of the worst matchups on the board. In addition to an elite strikeout rate, Max Scherzer has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .300 wOBA over the last two seasons. Avoid the Giants’ offense in this one.
