Seattle Mariners Offense (2015)
vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.313 (Rank: 12) — Strikeout Rate: 22.2% (Rank: 23)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.371 (Rank: 4) — Strikeout Rate: 20.8% (Rank: 21)
Pitches per PA: 3.89 (Rank: 5)
Analysis: Holland has pitched well since returning from injury, posting a 3.25 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 22.7% over the last month of play. He draws a favorable matchup today against the Mariners, who are ranked 12th in team wOBA and 23rd in strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season. Holland’s matchup could get even more favorable if Nelson Cruz and/or Franklin Gutierrez are unable to play. The biggest issue here is run support. With Felix Hernandez pitching opposite him, run support will likely be in short supply.
Pitcher Rating: 59.2
Felix Hernandez : FD: $11,000 — DK: $11,100
Pitching Stats:

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.317 (Rank: 18) — Strikeout Rate: 17.9% (Rank: 10)
Pitches per PA: 3.81 (Rank: 15)
Analysis: Hernandez may have a 6.03 ERA over the last month of play, but his indicators suggest that he has pitched much better than that. During that same time period, he has a 3.22 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 20.3%. He draws a mediocre matchup today against the Rangers, but he does get to face them at home. Hernandez is the top pitching option in the two early games and he’s in play in the all-day slate as well.

Even though Felix Hernandez hasn’t been at his best recently, he is still King Felix. Since the start of the 2014 season, he has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .270 wOBA. The Rangers’ offense can safely be avoided in all league formats.

The Mariners draw a difficult matchup against Derek Holland, who has been in excellent form since returning from his injury. Mark Trumbo is a borderline elite play though, as he has a good track record against southpaws and he also has a .402 wOBA and a .286 ISO over the last two weeks of play.

Analysis: De La Rosa has been in good form recently, posting a 3.85 SIERA (2.25 ERA) with a strikeout rate of 22.7% over the last month of play. He draws an intriguing matchup against the Padres, who are ranked 25th in team wOBA and 28th in strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season. De La Rosa is a sizable underdog, but he offers good value as a contrarian play in tournaments.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.330 (Rank: 12) — Strikeout Rate: 16.8% (Rank: 5)
Pitches per PA: 3.74 (Rank: 25)
Analysis: Ross has been in good form in his recent starts, posting a 3.47 SIERA (2.65 ERA) with a strikeout rate of 23.9% over the last month of play. He draws a decent matchup today against the Rockies, who are a much better offense at home than they are on the road. The issue that I have here is that Ross has struggled with left-handed hitters in his career and the Rockies’ lineup is full of quality left-handed bats. He will be a popular play today, but I have both Jake Arrieta and Felix Hernandez ranked ahead of him.
Pitcher Rating: 70.6

The Rockies may have one of the lowest team totals on the board today, but that doesn’t mean that they have to be completely avoided. Analysis: Arrieta is making a strong case for the National League Cy Young Award. He has been close to unhittable over the last month of play, posting a 2.28 SIERA (0.42 ERA) with a strikeout rate of 27.8%. He draws arguably the best matchup on the board tonight, as the Phillies are ranked 28th in team wOBA and 18th in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. Analysis: Morgan has not had a ton of success at the major league level, posting a 5.07 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 13.4% over his first 73 innings of work. He draws a decent matchup against the Cubs, but that’s not enough to warrant fantasy consideration tonight. Morgan has given up 1.7 home runs per nine innings in his career and the Cubs have a lot of power in their lineup. The Phillies are the largest underdogs on the schedule tonight for a reason.

He veteran right-hander will likely be on some type of pitch count tonight and given the possible rust in his first start back, he is not on my radar. Burnett also draws a fairly difficult matchup against the Brewers, who are ranked fifth in team wOBA over the last two weeks of play.

The Brewers could be a sneaky offense to target tonight in tournaments. While I don’t love their bats as cash game options, A.J. New York Yankees Offense (2015)
vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.336 (Rank: 3) — Strikeout Rate: 18.9% (Rank: 7)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.345 (Rank: 9) — Strikeout Rate: 21.0% (Rank: 23)
Pitches per PA: 3.89 (Rank: 4)
Analysis: Price has been in terrific form over the last month of play, posting a 3.04 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 27.8%. He draws a difficult matchup tonight against the Yankees, but he makes a nice pivot off of Jake Arrieta in tournaments. The Yankees have had some success against Price a few times in his career, but he has gotten the better of these matchups more often than not.

Analysis: Severino has pitched well in his rookie season, as he has a 3.89 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 23.5% in his first 35 innings of action. He has been a nice value play recently, but he should be avoided tonight against the Blue Jays, who are ranked second in team wOBA and seventh in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season.

Toronto
The Blue Jays draw a mediocre matchup tonight against Luis Severino. This is an extremely tough spot for a rookie pitcher though, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Blue Jays jump on him early. None of their hitters stand out as elite plays, but they are all viable secondary options tonight.

NY Yankees
The Yankees draw a tough matchup tonight against David Price, who has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .295 wOBA over the last two seasons. The Yankees have one of the lowest team totals on the board and their offense should be avoided tonight.
