While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy hockey there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, salaries, and more.

The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. Hockey is an extremely high variance sport. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time.

The Senators enter tonight’s game on the heels of back-to-back shutout victories, but keeping that scoreless streak alive will be very difficult tonight against the high-flying Dallas Stars. It’s been an up-and-down start to the season for the Senators, but they’ll begin a short three game road trip tonight with a 10-5-5 record. The Senators have benefited from two very balanced scoring lines, but it’s the top line of Mike Hoffman, Kyle Turris and Bobby Ryan that has the highest upside. That trio has combined for 23 goals and 29 assists in 20 games this season and Hoffman’s speed should translate quiet well in this up-tempo game. On the blue-line, a back-and-forth game suits Erik Karlsson aggressive defensive style perfectly. Karlsson leads the Senators with 22 points on the season and is an elite play on the blue-line in all formats if you can afford him.

Ottawa may be playing very well lately, but this game still sets up nicely for the Dallas Stars. Dallas is the fastest paced team in the NHL this season (118.90 CP60) and no other team in the league is allowing more shots on goal against per game than the Senators. Breaking down this Stars team has been pretty simple this season; Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin and Patrick Sharp are one of the most dangerous forward lines in the league and are putting up video-game like numbers. Seguin and Benn are my top two plays on the board tonight and I’ll be doing just about anything possible to have them both in my lineup. Jason Spezza joins those three on the #1 power-play unit and centers Patrick Eaves and Mattias Janmark on the team’s second line, making him an appealing GPP target. Defensively, John Klingberg leads all NHL defenseman with 23 points on the young season and quarterbacks the #1 power-play unit. He’s generally a bit cheaper than Erik Karlsson but clearly offers similar upside. Alex Goligoski leads the team with 23:43 in average ice-time per game and quarterbacks the Star’s #2 power-play unit, making him a nice value option.

Calgary Flames at Anaheim Ducks – 10:00 PM EST

It’s been an extremely disappointing start to the season for the Flames, but they defeated the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night two string together a pair of wins and can really turn their season around with a strong road trip that starts tonight in Southern California. The Ducks bounced the Flames from the Western Conference playoffs in five games last season but they just haven’t looked like the same hockey club this season. Johnny Gaudreau leads the charge offensively for the Flames as the 22 year-old has racked up 5 goals and 15 assists in 21 games this season. They should have Jiri Hudler back in action tonight, and while it’s not yet confirmed, he’d likely re-join Gaudreau and Sean Monahan on the Flames top forward line. That trio finds themselves as the top three in scoring for Calgary and are easily the most reliable forwards to target from the Flames. The Flames are loaded on the blue-line, but somewhat surprisingly haven’t received as much offensive production as they had hoped. With that said, Mark Giordano posted 48 points in 61 games last season and it’s only a matter of time before he gets rolling. Alternatively, T.J. Brodie, Dougie Hamilton and Dennis Wideman all also see a healthy dose of playing time with the man advantage and have proven in the past to be very capable offensively.

Something’s to give here tonight as Anaheim enters tonight’s action as the lowest scoring team in the NHL, but will face a Calgary team that’s allowing the most goals per game in the league this season. It’s no secret that the Anaheim offense runs through the dynamic duo of Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf on the Ducks top line. Despite their slow starts to the season, they’re still both leading the team in scoring and are the top options in this very nice matchup. Rickard Rakell joins them as the third wheel on the top line and that makes him a fine value play simply from an opportunity standpoint. Bruce Boudreau is still waiting for Ryan Kesler to make his presence known but the former all-star has just one goal through 21 games and hasn’t been able to click with the talented Jakob Silfverberg. On the blue-line, Hampus Lindholm still remains questionable to play this evening and his absence would mean bigger roles for both Sami Vatanen and Cam Fowler.

Elite Plays

ANA: Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, Sami Vatanen

Secondary Plays

CGY: Jiri Hudler, Sam Bennett, Dougie Hamilton, T.J. Brodie, Dennis Wideman
