Bartolo Colon : FD: $7,400 — DK: $7,600

St. Louis Cardinals Offense (2015)
vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.318 (Rank: 11) — Strikeout Rate: 19.1% (Rank: 10)
Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.267 (Rank: 27) — Strikeout Rate: 22.4% (Rank: 26)
Pitchers per PA: 3.78 (Rank: 18)
Analysis: Colon has pitched well this season, but at his age, he’s not a pitcher that I have a ton of confidence in rostering at this point. He throws primarily fastballs (close to 90%), so hitters certainly know what to expect when they step up to the plate. Even though the Cardinals’ offense has been ice cold recently, they should be able to get things going against Colon.
Pitcher Rating:53.3
John Lackey : FD: $8,800 — DK: $8,400

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.281 (Rank: 25) — Strikeout Rate: 21.9% (Rank: 21)
Pitchers per PA: 3.86 (Rank: 8)
Analysis: Lackey may not come into tonight’s start in the best of form, but even an average pitcher can look like a Cy Young candidate against the Mets. On the season, New York is ranked 29th in wOBA (.289) and 21st in strikeout rate (20.4%) against right-handed pitching. Lackey is a little more expensive than I’d like to see him at, but he’s certainly in play tonight at home.

At this point, we may want to avoid the Mets’ offense altogether. They are one of the worst offenses in baseball and they face a competent pitcher in John Lackey. Daniel Murphy is really the only player that I’d consider here.

The Cardinals draw a nice matchup against Bartolo Colon at home. They may not have the highest team total on the board, but there are a couple of bats that stand out here. Jhonny Peralta is underpriced and offers good value at shortstop.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.345 (Rank: 4) — Strikeout Rate: 21.7% (Rank: 19)

Analysis: Peavy has struggled since returning from injury, posting a 5.04 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 16.7%. Until he can string together a couple of quality starts in a row, he should be avoided in all league formats. He draws a tough matchup tonight against the Diamondbacks in the hitter-friendly Chase Field.

Analysis: Anderson has decent home splits in his career, but he comes into tonight’s start in awful form. Over the last month of play, he has a 4.99 SIERA with a low strikeout rate of 12.4%. He can be avoided tonight against the Giants, who are ranked sixth in wOBA (.325) and fifth in strikeout rate (18.0%) against right-handed pitching this season.

The Giants get the best of both worlds tonight, as they draw a favorable matchup in a favorable hitter’s park. Chase Anderson is a reverse-splits pitcher, but hitters from both sides of the plate are in play here. Don’t be afraid to load up on the Giants tonight.

Last 14 Days: wOBA: 0.257 (Rank: 30) — Strikeout Rate: 21.7% (Rank: 19)
Pitchers per PA: 3.80 (Rank: 15)
Analysis: Bettis has been one of the better starters in the Rockies’ starting rotation, but that says more about the state of the Rockies’ pitching staff than it does Bettis. He sees a major ballpark boost tonight though, as he faces the Padres in Petco Park. The Padres strike out at a high rate and they are one of the worst offenses in baseball against right-handed pitching. Bettis is an intriguing tournament play at his price point.

Pitchers per PA: 3.74 (Rank: 22)
Analysis: Ross is one of the few pitchers in the majors with glaring home/road splits. His SIERA and strikeout rate are both markedly better at home. While the Rockies hit right-handed pitching well as a team, those numbers are inflated by the Coors Field effect. Ross has great strikeout potential and he’s sitting at a very playable price point on both FanDuel and DraftKings.

The Red Sox are ranked 9th in wOBA (.320) and second in strikeout rate (16.4%) against right-handed pitching this season. They also average the second-most pitches per plate appearance of any team in the majors.

Analysis: Kazmir has been sharp in his recent starts, posting a 2.94 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 24.8% over the last month of play. He draws a fairly difficult matchup tonight though, as the Twins have been red-hot in recent weeks. The Twins also strikeout at a low rate against left-handed pitching. Kazmir isn’t my favorite pitcher to target tonight, but he’s not a bad option either.

Minnesota
The Twins draw a tough matchup against Scott Kazmir, who has held left and right-handed hitters under a .295 wOBA over the last two seasons. Brian Dozier and Miguel Sano are both in play, but they are secondary options at their respective positions.

The A’s draw a favorable matchup against Phil Hughes, who has not been the same pitcher that he was in 2014. Hughes is a reverse-splits pitchers, but hitters from both sides of the plate are in play here.
