2017 FanDuel WFBC Recap

Link to FanDuel WFBC Standings and Lineups

Congratulations to jegro21 for edging out igotnochance for the FanDuel WFBC title and a hefty $243K pay day. He went with the chalk at pitcher in Corey Kluber and the ace did not disappoint with a 49 fpt outing. A Mets stack of Dominic Smith, Jose Reyes, Curtis Granderson, and Michael Conforto combined for 87.7 fpts but it was the one off of Whit Merrifield that provided the big fantasy points as the Royals lead off hitter put up a 44.7 fpt outing at just 7% ownership. Another 22.2 fpts from Miguel Sano and you have your winning lineup (it can be seen below). Here is the final top 10 – congratulations to all involved in this great contest!

Barring some type of last-minute offensive barrage it’s a two-person race for the top spot between Jegro21 and igotnochance (did I mention he’s sporting an RG avatar????). Jegro has Whit Merrifield (also owned by igotnochance) and Jesse Winker left in action while igotnochance has the aforementioned Merrifield and Eric Thames. So it’s Winker vs Thames and it’s completely possible both might not see an at bat again. We’ll be back with the final standings in a few moments!

The contest is heading down the stretch now and it’s still unsettled who is going to emerge victorious. Jegro21 continues to lead but he’s only 5 points up on the inappropriately named igotnochance (sporting an RG avatar!!!) and big names like bigpapagates, ChipotleAddict, and scout326 are all lurking nearby. Here’s a look at the current top 10 – a true who’s who in DFS.

There is a little separation now between jegro21 and mrtuttle05 as jegro is up by seven plus points now as Ervin Santana came back to earth a bit and finished with 27 fpts while Kluber was himself and finished strong with 40+ fpts and that ultimately right now is the difference between the two lineups. Checking in on our RG contributors, hoop2410 is currently in 12th place while jakz101 is in trouble as he’s in 82nd right now (that’s what happens when you stack a team that is getting shut out).

The lead is changing hands faster than I can type. One moment it’s bigred6069 in the lead with a strong outing from a 2% owned J.A. Happ (43 fpts thus far) leading the way, the next mrtuttle05 is back in the lead but now it is jegro21 in the top spot just one point in front of mrtuttle05 with a Whit Merrifield three-run bomb being the difference maker. You wouldn’t think that with just four runs that a Mets stack would be a huge difference maker but with Michael Conforto (22.2 fpts) and Curtis Granderson (31.4 fpts) both topping 20% ownership you’ll find the Mets (and popular Twins like Brian Dozier and Miguel Sano) in most of the top 20 lineups.

With three homers in his lineup from Dozier, Sano, and Conforto (going with a 3-3-1-1 stack of Twins and Mets) and a contrarian SP pick in Ervin Santana, mrtuttle05 is the current leader with former RG TPOY mcjester sitting in 3rd place. Here’s a look at the current top 10.

In the “don’t try this at home” club today, we have benthedestroyer with the most contrarian of lineups… a Tampa Bay stack against the 76% owned Corey Kluber. One thing is for certain – if Kluber bombs at the hands of the Rays, he’ll have a huge leg up on the field.

There are 20 lineups with Brian Dozier in them out of the 100 entered in this contest. Those 20 are sitting pretty early after Dozier led off with a homer against the Tigers. Hoop and Jakz are two of those 20. We’ll be back with some ownership numbers after some of the other games have gotten underway and they are available. One thing I do now is that 24% of the entrants were brave enough to fade Corey Kluber – which could pay off greatly if he has just an average outing. Yeah, 76 out of 100 didn’t have the guts to do it.

Eric Crain (aka Jakz101) and Mike Petta (aka hoop2410) are among the 100 entries in today’s FanDuel $1.5 Million World Fantasy Baseball Championship live final. We’ll be here throughout the afternoon and early evening to see how they and the other live final participants do. Stay tuned!
