Urena is not a pitcher you want to target often in DFS. His SIERA is high (4.61) and his strikeout rate is very low (15.7%). His matchup today is great against the Phillies who rank 29th in wOBA against righties, but he is too tough to trust regardless of who he is pitching against.

Hellickson has not been terrible this year for the Phillies. He comes into this matchup with a 3.76 ERA (4.15 SIERA) and a useable 20.3% strikeout rate. He gets a matchup with the Marlins. who are ranked 21st in wOBA and 29th in ISO against righties. There are not a ton of pitching options in the night slate, which actually puts Hellboy in play.
Batter Grind Down
Miami
Hellickson has always struggled against lefties, and that has continued again this year. He has allowed a .338 wOBA to left-handed bats on the year, putting Dee Gordon and Christian Yelich in play today.

Andriese bounced back off two horrible starts (seven runs allowed in each) to pitch well against the Yankees in his last start, allowing just one earned run in five innings of work. He was on a terrible run prior to his start against New York and now has 3.90 SIERA to go along with his decent 20.7% strikeout rate. Showing improvement in one start is not enough for us to trust Andriese against an Orioles squad that is ranked third in wOBA and first in ISO against right handed pitching. Andriese is an easy avoid tonight.

Tillman returned from about a three-week DL stint to pitch very well in a start against a tough Detroit offense. Tillman has had a decent year, as he sports a 3.68 ERA, but his SIERA does sit almost a full run higher than that at 4.56. The matchup is solid for Tillman, who has had some success against this Rays squad (23.2 innings, 8 earned runs, 19 strikeouts). If he was cheaper, he could be used as an SP2 tonight, but his price is a little higher than I would like it to be.
Batter Grind Down
Tampa Bay
The Rays offense has been solid lately, as they are ranked seventh in the league in the last 30 days. Still,, I don’t love them in this spot against Tillman as they have the tenth-lowest team total of the day. Tillman has allowed a .310 wOBA to lefties and .312 to righties on the year, making the Rays are just an average offense to target tonight.

Santana has been a nice surprise this year for the Twins, especially recently, as he has allowed two earned runs or fewer in eight of his last ten starts. His SIERA now sits at 4.34 for the season to go along with his below average strikeout rate of 19.1%. The matchup is tougher against the Mets, as they have been great recently, sporting the sixth-highest wOBA in the league in the last 30 days. His price has risen to a point where he is tough to play at DK, but not at FD.

Like Santana, Seth Lugo has been a nice surprise for his team. He has now made five straight starts with the Mets being victorious in four straight. He has allowed just eight earned runs in those five starts and has pitched seven innings in his last two. His 19.2% strikeout rate is not terrible as he takes on a Twins offense that is ranked in the middle of the league in the offensive categories below. His salary is very cheap at DK, putting him in play as an SP2 tonight.

Lugo has kept batters to a wOBA of under .273 from both sides of the plate in his five starts this year. The Twins have the sixth-lowest projected run total of the day at 3.71 runs, making them a tough offense to spend up on.

This game is pretty easy to avoid the pitching matchup in. The Sox are sending out Miguel Gonzalez, who has a high 4.61 SIERA and low 17.6% strikeout rate. The matchup is not terrible, but Vegas has it as a pick ‘em with a total of nine. He is an easy avoid tonight.

On the other side of this game, we have Vargas, who will be making his first start since Tommy John Surgery today. There is no need to waste a roster spot, as the Royals have said he will be limited to either three innings of work or 45 pitches. There is no value here.
Batter Grind Down
Chicago White Sox
We are looking at about three innings from Vargas, and then Dillon Gee should take over after him, making the White Sox decent plays today against someone who hasn’t started in a long while and Gee, who is coming off a horrible start. Both offenses are tough to stack but could be used as one off plays at a number of different positions.

Gonzalez has allowed a .305 wOBA to lefties and .306 to righties on the year. The Royals are not the greatest offense to target for upside, but lately, the batters at the top of the order have been sources of value. That could again ring true tonight if guys like Burns, Dyson, and Merrifield are batting high up.

Darvish finally bounced back from a stretch, where he allowed at least three earned runs in three straight games. He pitched very well in his last start, where he struck out nine and only allowed one run. That momentum should continue, as he gets a solid matchup against the A’s, who are ranked 28th in wOBA and 24th in ISO against righties. While they strikeout at a low rate, it hasn’t been a problem for Yu as he has 15 in just 13 innings pitched against Oakland this year. He is the top pitching option of the night slate.
Batter Grind Down
Oakland
Darvish has pitched very well against this A’s team this year, and overall, he has kept batters to a wOBA of under .291 from both sides of the plate. They are not an offense to attack in any spot tonight.
