Chacin has been solid out of the bullpen for the Angels. He has put up a 3.42 SIERA (3.18 ERA) over his last 30 days to go along with a solid 25.3 percent strikeout rate. With that said, he was not good as a starter earlier in the year and has a tough matchup today against the Astros, who are heavy favorites in a game with a nine-run total. He is not a pitcher to play tonight.

Peacock has actually been decent as a starter over the last couple games, but his major issue is the fact that he has not pitched into the 80s yet in terms of pitch count. His SIERA sits about two runs higher than his ERA on the season, and his strikeout rate is not high enough for the amount of innings he may go tonight. He is not someone to play tonight.

LA Angels
The Angels are an average offense that does not strike out often and has the 13th-lowest projected run total on the entire day. They are a tough offense to play other than Trout up front and Calhoun if he suits up.

Rarely do you see a guy’s ERA this much lower than his SIERA. Asher sports a solid 2.16 ERA after just three starts, but his SIERA sits more than three runs higher at 5.36. The matchup today is not terrible against the Mets who rank 25th in team wOBA against righties, yet Asher should not be played in any format tonight.

Thor takes the mound as one of the top options going tonight. He comes in tonight with a 3.00 SIERA and 2.63 ERA on the year to go along with his elite strikeout rate of 29.1 percent. There are three elite options going tonight and all three have solid matchups. Kershaw is the heaviest favorite, while I have Thor as my number two pitcher going tonight.

Miranda had a great last week, as he shut down both the Astros and the Angels offenses. Still, his SIERA still sits about two runs higher than his ERA during the last five starts at 5.19. His strikeout rate of 16.4 percent is too low to trust today as Vegas has him as a small favorite with a very high total. He is an easy avoid on a night that is stacked with stud pitchers.

Duffey is extremely cheap for a reason tonight. He holds a 10.80 ERA over the last three starts and has always had a low strikeout rate. His SIERA does show some bad luck, but Vegas doesn’t think improvements come today, as he is an underdog against a solid Mariners offense that is ranked ninth in wOBA and 11th in ISO against righties. He is an easy avoid tonight.

Bumgarner is another ace taking the mound tonight. He has been stellar this year, as he has put up a 3.31 SIERA (2.57 ERA) to go along with an elite strikeout rate of 28.1 percent. Het gets a solid matchup against the Padres, who are ranked 21st in wOBA against lefties and 16th in ISO. Bumgarner is right up there with Kershaw and Thor tonight, and while I like the other two a bit better, you cannot go wrong with any of the options.

Cosart has been awful this season and over his last few starts as well. He comes in with a 5.28 SIERA (5.63 ERA) to go along with an extremely low 14.6 percent strikeout rate. Run support may be non-existent making Cosart an easy fade.

The Giants have an average run total, as they are playing in a pitcher’s park but have a great matchup against a bad pitcher in Cosart. Cosart has allowed lefties a .301 wOBA and righties a .358 wOBA putting a number of players in play tonight.

If you want to go a bit contrarian, you could use a guy like Wil Myers, who has been pretty hot at the plate. Other than that, this Padres offense has the third-lowest total of the entire day and should be avoided against MadBum.

Bettis gets the start today for the Rockies, and he has been a bit better lately, sporting a 2.25 ERA over his last four starts. Still, his advanced stats do not show much improvement as his SIERA continues to be in the fours. His strikeout rate leaves a lot to be desired, and he in an easy fade against the best pitcher in the game today.

Kershaw is the top pitching option tonight as he takes the mound against the Rockies at home. He went 88 pitches in his last start, which bodes well for him to continue raising his pitch count as we head to the playoff run. He brings his 32.9 percent strikeout rate and 2.28 SIERA into this matchup, making him easily the best option on the slate.

The Dodgers have a low 4.15 projected run total, but they do have a solid matchup against Bettis. Bettis has allowed a wOBA of .353 to righties and .302 to lefties. With that said, there are a few better offenses better than the Dodgers tonight.
