MLB Grind Down: Sunday, August 21st
The RotoGrinders MLB Grind Down will give you an in-depth analysis into the upcoming MLB schedule. This article will break down the numbers for every single game and give you analysis on which trends you can exploit. While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy baseball, there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, weather, and salaries.
The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. No sport has more variance than baseball. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time.

Henry Owens: Owens will make the start for the injured Eduardo Rodriguez today, and while he has been lights out in AAA lately, we have been down this road before. Owens is thought to be a pretty solid prospect but has struggled with walks causing him to get pulled early in his big league starts and is part of the reason for his ERA over five. I want nothing to do with Owens until he shows the ability to produce at the highest level.

Justin Verlander: Typically I would not consider a pitcher against the Red Sox to be very high on my list, but we have two factors in play here. First is that the pitcher pool is pretty shallow today, and second is that Verlander has already contained this Boston offense once. He has been very consistent on the season and offers good enough strikeout potential that we need to at least have him on our list of possibilities.

Red Sox: The flip side of this matchup is that Boston has a terrific offense that can get to any pitcher in the league. They do not rank near the top of the leaderboards in almost every statistical category for no reason. We have options here, and even a stack applies for those of you playing in tournaments.

Tigers: Given the struggles that Owens has seen in his brief time in the majors, it is hard not to like the Tigers at least a little bit here. Detroit has some solid hitters against left handed pitching and that projected run total says we need to target some of these guys.

Juio Urias: The Dodgers are bringing Urias back for a spot start as they push back Kent Maeda a bit. Urias has looked pretty solid since the break, but the problem is that he is not likely to pitch deep into the game. I like the matchup and his price on DraftKings, but you need to understand that the upside is somewhat limited.

Anthony DeSclafani: It has been a pretty good August for DeSclafani on the mound with 17 innings and 17 strikeouts allowing seven runs in his three starts. The Dodgers are a team that was hitting the ball pretty well but have fallen on their face lately, making him an interesting prospect. I like him as more of a secondary option today but the problem is his price is a bit too high on DraftKings in my opinion.

Dodgers: Oh boy. The Dodgers are not a team many fantasy owners like right now. Inconsistency is the main culprit for them, and although the projected lineup shows the potential of this Los Angeles team it has been a rough few games. I could see everyone bailing on them in this one despite a decent matchup and great ballpark which peaks my interest a little.

Reds: They had a bit of an offensive explosion yesterday but will have a tougher task at hand today in Urias. Rays: I want to like this Rays squad, but they simply do not have the lineup that can crush lefties anymore. The numbers are dipping versus lefties and it has to do with roster moves and injuries to some of their bigger targets from the first half. Marcus Stroman: It has been a solid second half for Stroman so far, but this is a tough Indians squad that can turn a good outing ugly in a hurry just ask Aaron Sanchez. The strikeouts are up, which is a good sign for fantasy purposes and the price is very solid, making him a pitcher I like in tournaments today. There is risk here but also potential.

Corey Kluber: We have seen a more dominant Kluber over his past five starts, in which he has struck out 33 batters in 34 innings while only allowing eight earned runs picking up four wins in the process. It is not too often we have a pitcher ranked number one against Toronto, and I do not feel good about it, but that is the case today.
Batter Grind Down
Toronto
Blue Jays: Toronto has the bats to do some damage – that much isn’t in question. The issue is that not only do they face a top-tier pitcher today but they have also struggled recently to get things going. You are going to be able to get them at a very low ownership, but just understand that is for a good reason, as their upside is limited by great pitching.

Cleveland
Indians: All they do is hit in Cleveland, as they continue to climb the leaderboards offensively against right-handed pitching. As I mentioned with Stroman, he is a solid pitcher but is also at risk because of what this Indians lineup can do. The projected run total may not be that high, but I think they finish higher than 24th in runs today.
