This is the only day game on the schedule today and it is only included in the all-day slate, so most of you can just skip down to the next game. Cashner is making his fifth start of the season. He has pitched well thus far, posting a 3.80 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 21.1%. The issue today is the matchup. The Giants are one of the toughest teams to strikeout and Cashner is typically much better at Petco Park than he is on the road. As such a major underdog, he can be avoided in all league formats.

If you are playing in the all-day slate, Samardzija is a very interesting play for both cash games and GPPs. He is coming off of a great outing against the Marlins and many are projecting him to have a bounce back season now that he is with the Giants. Samardzija may not have the highest strikeout rate in the majors, but the Padres certainly help that cause. They are ranked 24th in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season and were even worse in 2015.

Given the fact that there is a game in Coors Field and a number of other games with high run totals, it’s probably safe to avoid both offenses in this one. You can certainly look at the left-handed hitters in the Giants’ lineup, though. Since the start of last season, has allowed a .368 wOBA and 14 home runs to batters from the left side of the plate.

Hellickson has pitched well in his first three starts of the season, posting a 3.32 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 23.8% and a shocking low walk rate of 3.6%. Has he found something in his game or is this thanks to a small sample size? He comes into tonight’s game as a huge underdog against the Nationals in Washington. He may be able to win me over eventually, but for now I will take a wait and see approach with Hellickson.

Gonzalez has gotten off to a quick start this season, posting a 3.13 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 26.7% in his first three starts. He has cut down on his walks and he has managed to last at least six innings in every start thus far. He draws a terrific matchup tonight against the Phillies at home. Not only do the Phillies struggle to hit left-handed pitching, but they also have the highest strikeout rate against southpaws this season. He grades out as a comparable play to tonight, so I’d suggest using Harvey on FanDuel and Gonzalez on DraftKings to take advantage of the pricing differences between sites.

Quintana is coming off of yet another quality start on a night where his ownership was below 10% in most leagues. For whatever reason, people refuse to play him, even though he has pitched well in each of the last three seasons. He is an easy pitcher to avoid tonight though, as he takes on the Blue Jays in the Rogers Centre. Toronto is one of the best hitting teams in baseball against left-handed pitching (don’t trust the small sample size from this season).

Estrada has actually shown some nice strikeout upside in his first three starts of the season. His command issues are still there though and I eventually expect his strikeout rate to come back down to around 20%. He draws a mediocre matchup tonight against the White Sox and he has to face them at home in the hitter-friendly Rogers Centre. Given the fact that he is a sizable favorite and that he is one of the cheapest pitching options on the board, I want to take a shot on him tonight. However, I just can’t stomach targeting a fly-ball pitcher in this ballpark.

Gray doesn’t have as high of a strikeout rate as some of the other aces across the majors, but he is just as effective. In four starts this season, he has a 3.78 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 22.2%. He has been walking batters at an uncharacteristically high rate this season, but that should improve moving forward. The biggest issue for him tonight is his matchup. The days of him throwing complete game shutouts may be behind him, but he still offers a nice strikeout rate for a pitcher in his price range. He draws a mediocre matchup tonight against the A’s at home. I do prefer to pay up for Arrieta, Harvey, or Gonzalez in cash games, but Verlander is an interesting GPP play tonight.

The A’s offense may have a low strikeout rate as a team, but they do not hit right-handed pitching particularly well. They have the 18th highest team total tonight and so far this season, they are averaging only 3.45 runs per game. I would typically say that the left-handed hitters in this lineup are worth a look, but is a reverse-splits pitcher. There really aren’t any bats that stand out in this one.

The Tigers’ offense couldn’t get anything going last night against . They will look to bounce back tonight against . While they are projected to score 4.09 runs, there really aren’t any hitters that stand out here. Over the last two seasons, Gray has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .275 wOBA.

Norris is making his fifth start of the season. Unfortunately for him, he caught the wrong side of this four game series against the Red Sox. Instead of pitching at home in Turner Field, he has to face the Red Sox in Fenway Park. The Red Sox have the fourth highest team total on the board tonight. Combine that with the fact that Norris has a low strikeout rate and he is one of the worst pitching options in the slate.

Oh how I wish this game was being played in Atlanta. Wright would have been the top value pitching option on the board and it wouldn’t have even been very close. The fact that this game is being played in Fenway does change things a bit. He won’t get to face the opposing pitcher in the lineup and obviously this is a better park for offensive production. Wright still makes a nice value play being such a big favorite, but I prefer to pay up for one of the aces on single pitcher sites. Use Wright as a GPP play or as an SP2 on multi-pitcher sites.

Team ISO vs. RHP — 0.109 (30 of 30)
Runs Per Game — 3.21 (29 of 30)
Projected Run Total — 3.79 (20 of 30)
The Braves are one of the worst offensive teams in baseball. They currently average the second fewest runs per game and are ranked 27th in team wOBA against right-handed pitching. They have a low team total again tonight, but they do see a ballpark boost playing in Fenway. I don’t see any of their hitters as elite plays, but there are two viable targets here.

The Red Sox have the second highest team total of all the teams outside of Coors Field tonight. They draw an excellent matchup against and they get to face him at home. Norris has allowed a .401 wOBA to left-handed hitters and a .357 wOBA to right-handed hitters. Batters from both sides of the plate are in play here in both cash games and tournaments.
