Hughes is not exactly a pitcher that is used for daily fantasy purposes too often. While he still has maintained that extremely low walk rate he is known for, his strikeout rate last year declined to a very low 14.1%. He does not have the greatest upside of the pitchers going today, but can be seen as an SP2 just because of the lack of options and the fact that he is so cheap.

| 2015 | 12 | 4.16 | 15.0% | 5.6% | 47.8% | 26 | 22 |
Roark is another guy that has very limited upside when he is getting starts due to his low career strikeout rate of 16.6% and the fact that he rarely pitches deep into games. Add that to the fact that he has started the year with some control problems (10.3% BB rate) and you have someone you can safely avoid.
Batter Grind Down
The Twins come into this game with the seventh highest team run total of the early slate even with a decent matchup against Roark. Last year, batters from the left side of the plate hit Roark hard as he allowed a wOBA of .369. There are better offenses on the slate, but the Twins are not terrible plays.

Washington
Washington has been a solid offense this year as they are ranked tenth in total runs scored in the league. Hughes does not walk many batters, but he can be attacked from both sides of the plate as last year he allowed a wOBA of +.326 from both sides of the plate. Clearly, is in play, but I wouldn’t argue with a few Nationals today as they have a projected team total of 4.43.

will be promoted to pitch today and he gets a tough first matchup against the Yankees in New York. Snell is a highly touted prospect and one of the top pitching prospects in the league this year. The young lefty has had some big time strikeout numbers in the minors, yet control has always ben a problem as he has always been around a 9-11% walk rate. The upside is there, but it is always tough to throw a first time starter out there in a tough spot that is Yankee Stadium. He is unavailable at the big sites today anyway making our decision to not play him in his first start a bit easier.

Tanaka has been consistent so far to start the season as he has given up two earned runs in each of his first three starts. The more important number for Tanaka though is the fact that his strikeout rate sits at a solid 22.5% to go along with a 16:5 K/BB ratio. The upside is there in a matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays who are currently ranked 22nd against right-handed pitching. Tanaka is in play in all formats for the early slate.
Batter Grind Down
Tampa Bay
I have Tanaka just behind Kluber as the top pitching options of the day. Tampa actually comes into this game with the lowest team total of the early slate at just 3.54. Tanaka held batters to a wOBA of under .296 from both sides of the plate last year and the Rays are an offense that does not need to be used too often today.

NY Yankees
The Yankees are going to look to make Snell’s first start a one he would like to forget as the have Tanaka on the mound against him and are big -180 favorites. They have a projected team run total of 4.46 against Snell today putting many of their bats in play. It is always tough to predict a rookie’s first start, so using the Yankees is a solid choice, but not one to go all in on.

Bassitt has not pitched that great in his first few games as he holds a SIERA of 4.72 after three starts. He also has some major drawbacks today as he has to go into Toronto and face one of the best offenses in baseball in a hitter’s park. His low 15.5% strikeout rate takes away any possibility of starting him in such tough conditions today.

Happ some how pitches better than expected, especially when everyone expects him to get lit up like was so last Monday. Happ held a SIERA of 3.82 last season while pitching in a very tough division and park. Happ does have a bit more upside than some on this slate as his career strikeout rate is 19.7% and he does get a decent opponent as the A’s are ranked 23rd against left-handed bats. For a very cheap price he is worth taking a GPP flyer on as an SP2 today, but I wouldn’t take him across the board.
Batter Grind Down
Oakland
This A’s offense is not the powerhouse that there opponents are, but they do still get to play in a hitters park to at Rogers Centre. Last year, Happ kept batters to a wOBA of under .307 from both sides of the plate and the A’s now face him with a team total of just 3.96. They are in play for tournaments, but there are better plays to target in the early slate.

Toronto
Toronto is always a great offense to target when they get to face a subpar pitcher at home. Today is one of those instances as they come into today’s matchup with a projected team total of 4.54, which is the sixth highest of the day and the highest of the day slate. The righties are fine to target against Bassitt who allowed a wOBA of .324 to right-handed bats in 2015.

Kluber came last Sunday and got absolutely piled on against the Mets as he gave up six earned runs in six innings pitched. The strikeouts have been slightly down for Kluber this season (22.9%) and he is giving up way to runs as he comes into this with a very ugly 6.16 ERA. Looking closer at his advanced stats though, Kluber does sport a SIERA of just 3.46 on the season, which shows he has been quite unlucky in the early going and should bounce back soon. He is the best pitcher going on the early slate, yet his recent struggles stop me from going completely all in on him until we see an all-around solid start.

Sanchez has a couple warning signs after his first three starts. First, he has given up three home runs in those three starts while not making it passed the sixth inning in any. Also, he has been walking batters at a horrible 11.6% rate. He is struggling a bit too much at the moment to trust him in cash game formats today against the Indians who are ranked eighth in the league so far against righties.
Batter Grind Down
Cleveland
This game’s overall total is one of the lower ones of the day at just 7.5 runs. The Indians have a slightly higher team total than the Tigers, but still just sit at 3.84. There are a few better offenses to target during the day slate today, but you can target the righties against Sanchez who allowed a wOBA of .368 to them in 2015.

Detroit
Kluber is one of the top pitchers of the day and the top one of the early slate. The Tigers come into this game with the second lowest team total of the day slate at 3.66. If you believe the Kluber struggles continue, than the Tigers bats could be used for tournament settings today. I don’t look at BvP too often but both (19/35 with 5 home runs) and (9/25 with 3 home runs) have both found success against Kluber.

It only took three starts for Lewis to allow double-digit hits in a game, which he did last Saturday. Lewis is a guy that has very limited upside and someone that has a SIERA of over 4.43 last year. His 22.4% strikeout rate over the firs three games of the season is something we will see drop considerably soon enough here and he is a pitcher that should be avoided in all formats.

Rodon burned a lot of folks last on Monday when he only made it through one out in the first before he was yanked after giving up five earned runs on six hits. Rodon began the season on a much better note as he went 13 innings, with only two earned runs in those first two starts. He will look to bounce back against a tough, Texas offense that is ranked ninth in team wOBA against lefties. Rodon has the upside (22.9% strikeout rate in 2015) needed to be a tournament play today and should be viewed as that today.

Texas
While the young Rodon could get blown up again, I do not expect it and neither does Vegas as the White Sox are clear favorites today (-150) and the Rangers have a team run total of 3.96. If you are going to target the Rangers, go with the right-handed bats, which Rodon allowed a .350 wOBA to last year.

Chicago White Sox
Many DFS players love to target Lewis each time he is on the mound and that should continue today. He allowed a wOBA of +.310 from both sides of the plate last year and now faces a White Sox offense that has the second highest team total of the day slate (4.54).
