: Gonzalez is looking to stake claim to the fifth spot in the rotation for the White Sox after a pretty solid outing against the Rangers in which he only allowed one earned run via the home run. Even though he may have surprised some with a solid start the last time out he is by no means a fantasy relevant option and we can safely avoid him today.

: Although Tanaka struggled in his last start against the Royals he has been very solid overall and I look at those three home runs as more of an outlier than anything. Through seven games he is producing a 57.6% groundball rate and has a 3.16 xFIP while holding opponents to a wOBA under .300 from both sides of the plate. We have decent strikeout potential with Tanaka here and while he is not the top guy on the day by any means, we should have exposure if creating multiple lineups.

: I am on the fence with Duffey who has pitched pretty well in each of his last two starts for the Twins. The core metrics I use to evaluate a pitcher suggest that he is pretty solid with a strikeout rate that will produce solid totals while limiting the walks this season which should help him stay out of trouble and in turn pitch deeper into games. All things considered we have several pitchers who make more sense on this huge Sunday slate but he is certainly someone to keep an eye on moving forward as the sample starts to grow.

: There is a lot to like about Bauer who is completely stretched out at this point and will pitch deep into the game if his performance dictates it. His last time out he was able to pitch seven innings with seven strikeouts and did not allow a run against a tough Astros squad. This Twins team is striking out at a high rate and for that reason Bauer is a guy I like a lot as a secondary pitcher today.

: If you follow DFS Twitter at all then you know Gray has been labeled a fraud by the community and while that is a fun game we play he is not nearly as bad as his recent performance would indicate. His biggest issue this year has been falling behind in counts which has resulted in a spike in walks as well as his hard hit percentage and BABIP both seeing a significant increase. Sure that is of concern but his price has come down to a more reasonable level and this is a Rays team that is striking out 27.4% of the time against right handed pitching which is dead last in the league. In my opinion you could do a lot worse for a secondary pitcher today on multiple pitcher sites.

Matt Moore: Speaking of falling behind in the count that is exactly what Moore has done in his last two starts with mixed results. He did not get through the fifth inning in either outing and will look to rebound here against Oakland. Both of these pitchers are in similar situations where they come in after a few poor outings and will be looking to rebound against offenses that struggle a bit with the handedness of each. Moore is a fringe secondary play on multiple pitcher sites and I prefer the Gray side of this matchup personally.

: Straily has pitched well for the Reds over his last three starts going at least six innings in each game. The issue is that we do not get good strikeout potential with him and that is a big enough reason to fade him for DFS purposes even against one of the weaker offenses in the league. Through his career we have seen a high walk rate and the SIERA suggest we should see a bit of regression making him a guy I have no interest in today.

: The Reds are typically a team that I like to target with pitching but Morgan is not the type of guy I can trust at this point. He has limited experience in the big leagues and through one hundred innings has a 4.95 xFIP with a modest 14.8% strikeout rate giving us limited upside. With a full slate like this Morgan is a guy we can fade pretty easy today.

: There have been some really good signs for Fulmer to start his major league career with a solid strikeout rate and inducing a high groundball rate. The problem is that he is facing off against a stacked Baltimore lineup here. He is a guy I am not comfortable with in any lineups outside of taking a flier on him in a tournament if you are running several lineups.

: Gausman is a guy who is probably better than most people realize but has benefited this season from a .203 BABIP which is about ninety points lower than his career numbers meaning we are likely to see an appearance from the regression monster in the near future. This Detroit squad does strikeout at a high rate to right handed pitching but also have solid wOBA and wRC+ which makes them a risky target.
