MLB Grind Down: Sunday, August 14th
The RotoGrinders MLB Grind Down will give you an in-depth analysis into the upcoming MLB schedule. This article will break down the numbers for every single game and give you analysis on which trends you can exploit. While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy baseball, there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, weather, and salaries.
The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. No sport has more variance than baseball. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time.

: Odorizzi has pitched very well over his past five starts picking up three wins with twenty-seven strikeouts in thirty-two innings pitched. If that was not enough to peak your interest then perhaps the fact that only four earned runs have crossed the plate in that span. He faced these very Yankees in late July going six and two-thirds innings with five strikeouts and zero runs on his way to the victory. With the watered down New York lineup Odorizzi has to be considered a very solid play today.

: Severino was sent down earlier in the week as the organization wanted him to work on his changeup but the injury to Eovaldi forced them to recall him right away. He had looked solid out of the bullpen but was hit hard in his start against the Red Sox giving up five runs before being pulled in the fifth inning. The Rays are a team that I typically have no trouble targeting with right handed pitching but this is a case where his strikeout numbers lately do not appear to be high enough to offset the risk.
Batter Grind Down
Tampa Bay
Rays: This Tampa team has not done well against right handed pitching on the season but still pack a pretty solid punch from several spots in the lineup. With the struggles we have seen from Severino I do not mind plugging a couple of bats from this team into our lineups today.

Yankees: Not only has Odorizzi been good but this Yankees lineup is a pretty weak one as well. There are not really any bats that I feel super comfortable with here but you can take a shot on McCann and Gregorius where they are priced down.

: His record is a bit deceiving as Fiers has not been nearly as good as it would indicate. In his last five starts Fiers has surrendered fifteen runs in just twenty-eight innings making him someone I am far more likely to attack than use in my lineups. He is running into a Toronto team that I do not feel confident attacking without plus stuff and while the strikeout rate is decent it certainly is not enough to make me think about him here.

: He seems to be one of the more inconsistent pitchers in the league right now but did have a really solid start against the Astros two weeks ago. In that game he pitched seven innings surrendering just one earned run and striking out thirteen. That is some solid upside if he can match or even come close to a game like that again today making Stroman a guy I like a lot for tournament play.
Batter Grind Down
Houston
Astros: Houston is the type of team that swings for the fences up and down the order and the results are pretty typical of that. Yes they will strikeout a good bit but they also have some solid potential to put up big numbers as well. All things considered they are more of a tournament team for me against Stroman as we could see either side of this battle having success.

: In the beginning of the season Sale could not lose a game and now it seems to be the exact opposite. Sale has pitched very well in the four games since the blowup against the Braves with twenty-seven strikeouts in twenty-nine innings and giving up just seven runs against some solid offenses. The Marlins are not exactly a stellar with a weak ISO and strikeout rate we can attack, making Sale a fantastic option today.

: Koehler has pitched very well lately giving up just two earned runs in his last four starts combined while striking out twenty-three batters in twenty-seven innings. Before we get too hyped up on those numbers it should be mentioned that the Phillies represent two of those starts but the Cubs and Giants are the other two. I have no problem attacking this White Sox lineup but am a bit weary of a blowup game from Koehler as the numbers are a little too good compared to his historical marks.

: With virtually no strikeout potential and runs crossing the plate with regularity there is absolutely zero reason to roster in your fantasy lineups. You would be hard pressed to find a group of statistics from a recent time frame that would support roster Weaver and as such he is a complete fade once again.

: We had not seen Bauer pitch well since the very beginning of July before his win against the Nationals last time out. The strikeout totals are nowhere near what we would want from him and facing an Angels squad that does not help pitchers out in that category I want nothing to do with him here. Take a stroll through the game logs and you will not find decent back to back starts since June. The recent performance indicates he is far more likely to look like the pitcher we have seen for the past couple months than the one we saw in D.C. last week.

LA Angels
Angels: When I look at the lineup it would seem they should be worse than middle of the pack offensively but here they are. Bauer is a pitcher that we could attack with a higher powered offense, instead I would suggest a few key players today.

Cleveland
Indians: You can expect this Cleveland team to be popular today as they have a matchup with who is striking out nobody. There is a good mix of season long success with recent form to make the Indians a very dangerous offense and I love the idea of mixing up a couple of stacks with them today.

: Richard has not pitched in the big leagues this year but his career numbers are nothing to write home about. He offers very limited strikeout potential and is more of an innings eater than anything else. With a full slate of games going on and the fact that you might not even know who he is despite having over eight hundred innings logged at the major league level this is an easy fade today.

: While the numbers look good on the surface from his last game against the Diamondbacks it should be noted that it took him one hundred and twenty pitches to complete six innings of work. That scares me just a bit with a matchup against the surprisingly good Padres against lefties. On the plus side Matz has logged at least five innings and five strikeouts in each start since the end of June an eight game span. All things considered I like him but would limit exposure a bit due to the high pitch count in his previous start.

San Diego
Padres: San Diego has been pretty good overall against left handed pitching on the season but it is important to note that a couple of their more successful players are no longer with the team making them a little less dangerous. This is one of the more interesting games as Matz should be able to handle them but I wonder just how much that high pitch count might affect him.

NY Mets
Mets: With Reyes back in the lineup they should be a bit stronger and considering the fact that Richard has never been that great of a pitcher we can look the Mets way despite recent struggles. I am not saying we need to go wild over New York but there is certainly fantasy potential here.
