Colon doesn’t exactly fit the mold of the type of pitcher we are looking to target in DFS. I suppose he doesn’t exactly fit the mold of a professional baseball player either. While I am as big of a Colon fan as anyone, he rarely finds his way into my lineups. A strikeout rate of 16.4% just doesn’t give him enough upside, especially when he is pitching in these hitter’s parks like Yankee Stadium.

Eovaldi pitched well earlier in the season, but comes into tonight’s game in awful form. In his last three starts, he has a 5.09 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 15.8% and a walk rate of 10.9%. He draws a favorable matchup against the Mets, but I see him as more of a GPP flier than a cash game staple. The upside is certainly there for Eovaldi, as the Mets are ranked 21st in team wOBA and 22nd in team K% against right-handed pitching this season.
Batter Grind Down
NY Mets
The Mets get to play in a hitter-friendly ballpark and also get to utilize the DH in this series. However, even with struggling in his last few starts, the Mets still have the sixth lowest team total on the board. In terms of splits, the left-handed hitters have the edge in this matchup. In the last two seasons, combined, Eovaldi has allowed a .355 wOBA to batters from the left side of the plate.

The Yankees have really struggled offensively this season, but they come into tonight’s game with the tenth highest run projection. He hasn’t shown any strikeout upside in the majors thus far and tonight he is facing the team with the lowest strikeout rate in all of baseball. There is more downside than upside with Hahn and he should be avoided in all league formats.

In 21 starts this season, he has a 4.39 SIERA with a strikeout rate of only 17.7%. The A’s may not hit right-handed pitching well as a team, but they have the fourth lowest k-rate on the season.

A move to the American League East doesn’t help his fantasy appeal one bit, as he now has to pitch in four of the most hitter-friendly ballparks in baseball. I will be avoiding both of the pitchers in what should be a high scoring game between these two teams.

Vogelsong suffered multiple facial fractures after being hit in the face by a ball earlier this season. He has completed his rehab and will be back on the mound tonight. He couldn’t have picked a better time to make his return, as he gets to square off against the worst offense in baseball. Vogelsong isn’t a high strikeout pitcher though, and he could be on a pitch count tonight in his first start back. I’m going to take a wait and see approach for now.

Jenkins didn’t show any strikeout upside in the minors and so far, that hasn’t changed in the majors. In his first four major league starts, he has a 6.61 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 9.7% and a walk rate of 15.1%. He is listed as an underdog tonight at home in a game that features a total of 9.0 runs. When is the last time you can remember seeing a game in Turner Field with an over/under this high?
Batter Grind Down
Pittsburgh
The Pirates arguably have the most favorable matchup on the board tonight. has walked more batters than he has struck out and he has given up a .372+ wOBA to both left and right-handed hitters. The sample size is obviously still an issue, but Jenkins has to improve in a few areas if he is going to stick around in the majors. I have no problem loading up on Pirates’ bats tonight.

The Braves’ offense came alive last night, but that has been the exception rather than the rule this season. Happ went from being $7,200 on DraftKings in his last start to $11,600 tonight. He has certainly been in good form, but I have a hard time paying that much for a guy with an average strikeout rate on the season. He draws a boom or bust type of matchup against the Astros, who are ranked seventh in team ISO and 25th in team K% against left-handed pitching this season. Happ is a strong play on FanDuel, but I may end up fading him on DraftKings.

Fiers is one of the handful of pitchers that has such drastic home/road splits that I always feel the need to point them out. Guys like and (who pitched great at home last night) also come to mind. Here are his splits this season:
Home: 3.76 xFIP / 19.2% strikeout rate / .314 wOBA allowed
Away: 5.19 xFIP / 12.8% strikeout rate / .375 wOBA allowed
Now, with all of that said, I don’t want any part of Fiers against the Blue Jays. They are ranked eighth in team wOBA and third in team ISO against right-handed pitching this season and Fiers is listed as an underdog at home.

The Blue Jays have a mediocre run projection tonight, as they square off against in Minute Maid Park. This is certainly a matchup that should suit the Blue Jays well, as Fiers is a reverse-splits pitcher that has allowed a .337 wOBA and 24 home runs to right-handed hitters in the last two seasons.
