We have one early game on the schedule today between the Braves and the Cubs. Blair will be making his second career major league start. He allowed three runs against the Mets in his first start while only striking out a single batter. Blair has shown nice strikeout upside in the minors, but we don’t know if that will translate to a high strikeout rate in the majors. As the largest underdog on the schedule, he can safely be avoided in both cash games and GPPs.

Lester is still among the best left-handed pitchers in baseball. In his first four starts of 2016, he has a 3.41 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 23.0%. He has also made an effort to hold runners at first, which he hasn’t done in years past. He draws a favorable matchup against the Braves, who are ranked near the bottom of the National League in every offensive category. Lester should be able to pick up the win here and rack up some strikeouts in the process. If you are playing the all-day slate, Lester is a nice anchor to build your lineups around.

Since the start of last season, the Braves are ranked dead last in both team wOBA and team ISO against left-handed pitching. They are also ranked 29th in runs scored per game this season. The Braves may be the worst offense in baseball. They should be avoided today against , who has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .285 wOBA.

We go from arguably the worst offense in baseball to arguably the best offense in baseball. The Cubs are ranked second in runs scored per game this season and they come into today’s game with the highest team total on the board. They draw a favorable matchup against , who is a young right-handed pitcher making only his second career start. One little note that you may want to store in your memory – has drastically better splits at home than the does on the road. In his first two seasons, he has a .434 wOBA and a .314 ISO at Wrigley Field.

Straily is hoping that a new team can revive his career. He has been decent in his first two starts with the Reds, but he has struggled with his command walking 12.3% of the batters that he has faced. Straily draws a difficult matchup tonight against the Pirates, who have one of the lowest strikeout rates of any team against right-handed pitching. Straily is cheap, but I have him ranked as the eighth worst pitching option in this slate.

Nicasio may have been the happiest player on the Pirates once it was announced that yesterday’s game was postponed. Rather than facing the Rockies in Coors Field, he now draws a start against the Reds at PNC Park. Nicasio has always had electric stuff and like with the Cardinals, I expect Nicasio to flourish with his new team. He has a high strikeout rate and he is facing a mediocre Reds’ offense. Dollar for dollar, he may be the best pitching value on the board tonight.

The Reds have not fared well against right-handed pitching over the last two seasons, ranking 25th in team wOBA and 23rd in team ISO. They come into tonight’s game with the sixth lowest team total on the board. While I don’t love their offense as a whole, has allowed a .362 wOBA to left-handed hitters in his career.

The Pirates are ranked third in runs per game this season, but that is skewed by the fact that they score 24 runs in their series in Coors Field. Rodon is hoping to take that jump up to the next level this season. His biggest issue thus far has been his command, walking over 11% of the batters that he has faced. | 2015 | 24 | 3.36 | 22.8% | 4.4% | 47.0% | 31.1% | 3 |
Tanaka is still dealing with some soreness in his elbow, but he has managed to pitch well in his first four starts of the season – 3.17 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 23.7%. His price tag on DraftKings is awfully appealing, but it’s hard to overlook his matchup against the Red Sox. Boston is one of the best offenses in baseball against right-handed pitching and Tanaka has to face them in Fenway Park.

In 11 starts last season, Owens had a 4.66 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 18.4% and a walk rate of 8.8%. He is an extreme fly-ball pitcher that could pose some problems given the fact that he pitches in the American League East and that half of his starts will come in Fenway Park. There is more risk than potential reward with Owens tonight.

Team wOBA vs. LHP — 0.326 (10 of 30)
Team ISO vs. LHP — 0.157 (13 of 30)

The Yankees’ team total seems a bit low tonight. They draw a favorable matchup against and they are facing him in a hitter-friendly ballpark. There are usually a lot of runs scored when these two teams meet up and I’m expecting more of the same tonight. All of the right-handed hitters in the Yankees’ lineup are in play tonight.

The Red Sox have mashed right-handed pitching over the last two seasons, ranking fifth in team wOBA. Their offense has performed well in the first month of the season, but they draw a difficult matchup tonight against . I expect Boston to score some runs tonight, but there aren’t any individual bats that stand out, as Tanaka has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .290 wOBA.
