Duffy is slated to make his second start of the season today. He will likely continue to be on a pitch count as evidenced by his last start where he was stopped at 48 pitches. With that said, he has pitched well this year as he comes into this game with a SIERA of 2.80 and a strikeout rate of 30.2%, but his upside is limited by the fact that he will not be pitching deep into the game today. He is very cheap, but basically needs a perfect start to reach value today.

Gonzalez is not someone we want to target for daily fantasy purposes. He comes into the game with a 5.80 SIERA and a very low 14.5% strikeout rate. The matchup is not as scary as in years past as the Royals are currently ranked 21st and 25th in team wOBA and ISO respectively against right handed pitching. Yet, he is still an easy pitcher to avoid with very little upside today.
Batter Grind Down
Kansas City
The Royals have the fifth highest total of the entire day and the fourth highest of the early slate today. Gonzalez is attackable from both sides of the plate as he has allowed a wOBA of +.353 to both lefties and righties. While the offense has struggled a bit this year, this may be a good time to play some of the Royals batters for cheap, especially at FD.

Duffy has shut down lefties in a small sample size (.162 wOBA), while allowing a wOBA of .325 to right-handed bats. The White Sox actually have a 4.44 projected team run total which is the sixth highest of the day. Vegas expect a lot of runs to be scored today, which makes the offenses solid targets on both sides of the ball.

Happ finally struggled in his last start against the Rays where he allowed eight earned runs in two innings. On the season, Happ sports a SIERA of 4.56 and continues to have a low strikeout rate of 15.6%. Happ will look to bounce back today against the Twins who are ranked 29th in both wOBA and ISO to left-handed bats. Happ is not the greatest target, but he could be used at this price due to a great matchup.

has made two appearances out of the bullpen this year and while his last appearance he pitched over five innings, he still allowed two earned runs and ten hits. He is an easy avoid as a lefty against an offense that can crush even an elite lefty arm. Avoid him today.

Toronto
This Blue Jays offense is going to be licking it’s chops to get out there today as they get to face off against a young, inexperienced lefty arm. The Blue Jays have the second highest team total of the early slate and third highest of the entire day. They are a great early stack option today.

Happ has allowed a wOBA of .339 to right-handed bats this year, which puts some of the power righties of the Twins in play such as Sano, Plouffe and Park who all have wOBAs of over .344 against lefties. Another poor pitching option that we have today is Perez. He comes into this game with an ERA of 4.78 (4.87 SIERA) and an extremely low strikeout rate of 10.7%. He has very little fantasy value today even in what is a solid matchup on paper against the Phillies who rank 28th in team wOBA and 27th in team ISO against right-handed pitching. Avoid him today.

Morgan has been bad in his first four starts of the season. He comes into this game with an ERA of 6.41 and a low 16.3% strikeout rate. We should expect more of the same going forward as his SIERA sits at just below 5 (4.78). He has one of the best matchups on the board, which makes him playable for his price, but the upside is limited here.

Perez’s struggles have come in the form of lefty bats this year. His wOBA of .368 allowed to lefties is a full .150 higher than what he has allowed to righties this season. Looking at the graph below, four out of the Phillies first six batters can hit lefty, which should give Perez a lot of trouble and is why the Phillies have the seventh highest projected team run total today. They are cheap and make a great offense to attack.

Bauer has been pretty good as a starter. After four starts, and 10+ innings out of the bullpen, Bauer has a solid 3.61 SIERA to go along with his 25.3% strikeout rate. The problem today is the matchup against one of the better offenses in the league as he takes on the Red Sox who are first in team wOBA and fifth in team ISO against righties. The matchup alone takes Bauer out of play as the total is the highest of the day.

Kelly is being activated off the disabled list only to have to face one of the hottest offenses in the Indians. He did make a few rehab starts, which included a 92 pitch outing in his last game, which means he should be close to a full go for the game. With that said, he is not someone we want to target in a first game off of injury and can safely avoid him in what is projected to be the highest scoring game of the day.
Batter Grind Down
Cleveland
Cleveland bats have been hot and can continue to be used as a stack option against a returning Kelly today. They have a projected run total of 4.60, which is the fourth highest of the entire day and get to face off against Kelly who struggled mightily prior to his DL stint.

Boston
Bauer has allowed a wOBA of .326 to lefty bats this year, which puts Ortiz and Shaw in play today. The rest of this Boston offense is in the blue or green below in wOBA against right-handed bats and has the highest projected team run total of the day. They make a great stack as well as cash game plays today.

It is rare to ever want to target a Colorado pitcher within or out of Coors and today that trend continues. Although Chatwood sports a low SIERA/ERA (4.05/3.20), he does not have the upside needed to use him as a fantasy starter. He has a low 16.4% strikeout rate and is facing the Pirates who are ranked fifth in the league in team wOBA against righties.

Niese bounced back from a bad string of starts in late April/early May and pitched well in his last two starts. While this is good news, his last two starts did come against very inept offenses in the Braves and the Reds. On the season, Niese has a SIERA of 4.42 and a minimal strikeout rate of just 17.0%. He is another pitcher whose upside is limited on the day slate today, but can be looked at where cheap (DK).
Batter Grind Down
Colorado
Looking at Niese’s wOBA allowed makes it appear that he has really struggled this year. He has allowed a wOBA of .391 and over to batters from both sides of the plate this season. Yet, the Rockies are in the bottom third of the league in terms of projected run total (3.82). There are better offenses to target early.

Pittsburgh
Chatwood is attackable from the right side of the plate, as he has allowed a wOBA of .358 to righties so far this year. This bodes well for the Pirates offense today who are fifth in runs scored per game. They are not the top offense to target early on, but do have some solid options in the front portion of their lineup.
