Bettis continues to be an easy fade in DFS. Through 14 starts this season, he has a 4.14 SIERA with a strikeout rate of only 16.8%. He produces a lot of ground balls, but so far that hasn’t led to any success at the major league level. He comes into tonight’s game as a sizable underdog against the Yankees. The total for the game is set at 9.5 runs, which is one of the highest on the schedule.

Nova “should” see some positive regression moving forward, but he has been giving up such hard contact that you just never know. On the season, he has a 3.71 SIERA (4.77 ERA) with a strikeout rate of 16.7%. I’m less concerned about the ERA as I am about the low strikeout rate. The Rockies aren’t as good offensively on the road, but Yankee Stadium is still a hitter-friendly ballpark.
Batter Grind Down
Colorado
The Rockies are ranked inside the top five in both team wOBA and team ISO against right-handed pitching. While some of that is skewed by Coors Field, they still have a number of batters that fare well against righties. In addition to having a low strikeout rate, has allowed a .361 wOBA to left-handed hitters and a .329 wOBA to right-handed hitters over the last two seasons.

NY Yankees
The Yankees have not hit right-handed pitching well this season, but they come into tonight’s game with the third highest team total on the board. They draw an excellent matchup against , who has allowed a .318 wOBA to left-handed hitters and a .358 wOBA to right-handed hitters. The only potential concern here is that Bettis does have a ground ball rate over 50%.

Wilson has one of the lowest strikeout rates of any pitcher in baseball. After only striking out 8.7% of the batters that he faced a year ago, he has only struck out 12.8% of the batters that he has faced this season. He doesn’t walk too many batters, but he gives up a lot of hard contact. He could be a cheap source for a win tonight against the Padres though, and at $5,300 on DraftKings, he could be worth a look in GPPs.

The Padres are one of the worst offenses in baseball, but they draw a favorable matchup against in a hitter-friendly ballpark. Over the last two seasons, Wilson has allowed a .305+ wOBA to both left and right-handed hitters. The Orioles have the highest team ISO against right-handed pitching this season. They also have the second highest implied run total tonight, as they square off against , who has been very hittable in his three starts this season. Hitters from both sides of the plate are in play here, but give a small edge to the left-handed bats. An Orioles’ stack is certainly in play in all league formats.

He is back to producing an elite ground ball rate, which has helped him lower his hard hit contact rate. He comes into tonight’s game as a favorite against the Pirates, although I would prefer it if the game was in San Francisco rather than Pittsburgh. The good news is that the run support should be there with pitching opposite him.

In nine starts at the Triple-A level this season, he posted a 3.33 ERA with a strikeout rate of only 16.8%. It’s always easy to avoid these pitchers making their debut, especially when they aren’t a top pitching prospect.

Corbin got knocked around a bit in his last start and could suffer the same fate tonight against the Blue Jays. Even though Toronto’s offense hasn’t been as good this season, they still lead the majors in team wOBA against southpaws over the last two seasons. To make matters worse, Corbin has to face them on the road in the hitter-friendly Rogers Centre. Corbin should be avoided in both cash games and GPPs.

Estrada’s SIERA is a full two runs higher than his ERA this season. That’s a pretty incredible statistic when you look at his hard hit contact rate of 33.3%. We should expect some regression moving forward, as it’s hard to imagine him sustaining a .188 BABIP over the course of the entire season. Estrada is an easy fade for me, because his good fortune has led to a low ERA which has led to a high price tag. He’s a large favorite at home, but there are better options at similar price points.

The Diamondbacks have been a mediocre offense against right-handed pitching this season and they come into tonight’s game with the 11th lowest team total on the board. They draw difficult matchup on paper against , but as I mentioned above, eventually he is going to start giving up more hits. With such a hitter-friendly ballpark, the Diamondbacks make great low-owned GPP plays tonight.

The Blue Jays have the fifth highest team total on the board, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if they ended up being the top scoring offense tonight. They are playing at home and they get to face a left-handed pitcher in . Over the last two seasons, Corbin has allowed a .344 wOBA and 20 home runs to right-handed hitters. The Jays will be licking their chops ahead of tonight’s game.

Paxton has been great in his first four starts of the season, posting a 2.99 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 29%. I don’t think that he can sustain this type of success over the course of an entire season, but he has always had nice strikeout upside. He’s worth monitoring moving forward, but he can be avoided tonight against the Tigers, whose lineup could have nine right-handed batters in it. Paxton has been a reverse-splits pitcher in the past, but I don’t love the idea of a lefty having to face so many right-handed batters on the road.

Verlander comes into tonight’s game in great form, posting a 3.16 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 27% over the last month of play. He is back to being the dominant Verlander of the past, yet he is still priced a bit cheaper than you would expect given his recent production. He is a small favorite tonight against the Mariners, but the matchup is less than ideal. Seattle is currently ranked fourth in team wOBA and seventh in team ISO against right-handed pitching this season.

This is one of those situations where I don’t really love the pitcher or the offense that he is facing. The Mariners’ offense has been great this season, but so has . Something has to give here, but it’s hard to know what side that is going to be. For that reason, I will likely be avoiding both. There are enough games in the slate that we can just take a pass with this one.

The Tigers draw a difficult matchup on paper against , but they come into the game with the tenth highest team total on the board. Their lineup is loaded with powerful right-handed hitters that could pose some problems for the left-handed Paxton. This isn’t my favorite matchup on the board, but there are a number of Tigers’ hitters on my radar.
