Garcia is going to pitch today in what looks like a bit of an odd choice for how the Cardinals handled their starting situation. He made a spot start on Tuesday and pitched well and now will pitch again on just four days rest today. He comes into the game with a 4.01 SIERA and 19.1% strikeout rate and faces a Marlins squad that is ranked in the bottom half of the league in most of the offensive categories against lefties. If he can pitch around Stanton today, he could make a decent play, but not one with a ton of upside.

This night slate is loaded with subpar pitchers, and Rea fits that bill exactly. He comes in with a 4.88 SIERA and a low 17.2% strikeout rate. He has a tough matchup against the Cardinals, who rank third in wOBA and first in ISO against righties. Avoid Rea in this game tonight.
Batter Grind Down
St. Louis
Rea has allowed a wOBA of .324+ from both sides of the plate this year. The Cardinals look like a great offense to target tonight, even with their average projected run total of 4.15.

Miami
Garcia has kept lefties to a wOBA of .272 on the year but has allowed righties a .320 wOBA. This puts into elite play status along with a few others you see with blue next to their names below. The Marlins don’t have a very high projected run total, so do not get too much into stacking Miami tonight.

Kennedy has been decent on the year, holding a 4.05 SIERA and a very good 24.2% strikeout rate. The strikeout rate gives him the ability to make some mistakes and still be a good fantasy starter, but tonight’s matchup makes it difficult to endorse him as he goes into Texas, as an underdog, in a game with a total of 10. There are better times to target Kennedy than tonight.

Perez is another pitcher tonight that we do not need to spend a whole lot of time on. He has allowed 22 earned runs in his last four starts and has the lowest strikeout rate you will likely see from any starter at just 10.7%. There is no format I have seen that would make Perez a good start.
Batter Grind Down
Kansas City
The Royals come into this game with a projected run total of 4.77, which is the seventh-highest total of the day. While Perez has kept lefties to a low wOBA (.239), he has really struggled against righties, as he has allowed a wOBA of .356 to them this year. The Royals are a solid offense to target tonight.

DeSclafani has actually had a decent year for the Reds. He comes into the game with a 3.09 ERA and decent 20.3% strikeout rate. His SIERA is a full run higher than his ERA, showing some regression is in order, but he does get a decent matchup tonight against the Padres, who are ranked 29th in wOBA and 18th in ISO, while striking out at a 24.6% clip. The matchup is ideal, putting DeSclafani into play, but his price has risen to a point that he might be tough to fit in.

After being roughed up in his first start as a member of the Red Sox, Pomeranz had a much better outing in his second start with the team. He now goes on to road with his new squad with a 2.84 ERA (3.72 SIERA) and an elite 27.8% strikeout rate. He has a matchup against the Angels, who actually rank eighth in wOBA and 17th in ISO against lefties, while striking out at a low 15.6% rate. The matchup is not ideal, but Pomeranz brings some high upside on the night slate.

Santiago has been decent this year and now comes into this game with a 4.28 ERA (4.71 SIERA) along with a decent 20.6% strikeout rate. We can stop there, as he now has to face the Red Sox, who are not an offense we want to attack pitchers with tonight.

Santiago has allowed a wOBA of .311+ from both sides of the plate, putting their whole offense in play tonight.
