Lester will look to win his 20th game today, and the odds look good as he comes in as a -170 favorite. He has dominated the Reds in four starts this year, as he has a 1.95 ERA and 18 strikeouts on route to two of his 19 wins. While he is far behind Kershaw in projections, he is clearly the second-best pitcher going in the afternoon slate and is at a solid discount from Kershaw and can be played in all formats.

Adleman comes into this game with a 4.85 SIERA and a very low 16.2 percent strikeout rate on the season. He now has to face a Cubs lineup that is ranked eighth against right-handed pitching and is warming up for a lengthy playoff run. It will be interesting to see the lineup, but if it is anything close to the regular squad, then Adleman is an easy avoid.
Batter Grind Down
Chicago Cubs
The Cubs have a projected run total of 4.66, which is the eighth-highest of the entire slate. Adleman has struggled from both sides of the plate, as he has allowed a wOBA of .330+ to both righties and lefties. This Cubs squad is one of the better early offenses and can be stacked in all formats.

Bauer has struggled pretty badly lately, as over the last month he has a 6.75 ERA (4.50 SIERA). He gets a decent matchup against the Royals, who are ranked 28th in wOBA and 30th in ISO against righties. Due to his recent struggles, he is an avoid to me, as he looks to possibly be tuning up for a game one playoff start.

Volquez has been awful over the last month of play. In his last six starts, he has an 8.13 ERA and a low 14.5 percent strikeout rate. He is not a pitcher you should think about using against a solid Indians offense that is ranked in the top 10 in many of the offensive categories listed below. Move on.
Batter Grind Down
Cleveland
The Indians are slight favorites today and come into this game with a 4.56 projected run total. There should be a number of runs scored today on both sides, but the Indians look to be the better offense, as Voltrain has allowed a .343 wOBA to batters from both sides of the plate this year.

Zimmermann continues to try his return to full form this year, as injuries have really set back the majority of the second half of his season. He has not exactly been great this year, as he holds a 4.73 SIERA and low 14.8 percent strikeout rate. There is no way to trust a guy that has not pitched more than three innings in the last three months.

Blair is not someone we need to spend a lot of time on. He holds a SIERA of 5.85 on the year to go along with one of the lowest strikeout rates you will see by a starter at just 12 percent. He has a tough matchup today against the Tigers, who are ranked fourth in wOBA and tenth in ISO against right-handed pitching this year. He is an easy avoid on the night slate.

The Braves have now been the highest-ranked offense in team wOBA over the last 30 days of baseball. They also have the sixth-lowest strikeout rate at the moment, as well. The offense is in a decent spot against Zimmermann and should be used for cheap value plays high up in the order today.

Happ will make his final start of what has been a solid season for the lefty. He has a 4.16 SIERA with a decent strikeout rate of 21.1 percent. The main problem here today is the matchup against the Red Sox, who are ranked as the best squad against left-handed pitching in terms of team wOBA and eighth in ISO. Happ has pitched well this year against Boston, and depending on their lineup, he may be one of the better options tonight, but that is saying more about the rest of the slate than Happ himself.

Rodriguez turned around his season after the All-Star break, as he has put up a 3.10 ERA and 70 strikeout rates over 72.2 innings. He has been solid, but like Happ, has a very tough matchup against a Blue Jays, who are a lefty-mashing team that is ranked in the top 10 against left-handed pitching. This game has a nine-run total with the Blue Jays being slight favorites, which means Rodriguez has way to much risk attached for the amount of reward that is possible in this matchup.

The Blue Jays come in with a projected run total of 4.56, which is the 13th-highest on the slate. Rodriguez has allowed a .324 wOBA to lefties and .314 wOBA to righties on the year, putting the big Blue Jay bats in play in all formats today.

Happ has held batters to a wOBA under .294 from both sides of the plate this year. The Red Sox have a middle-of-the-road total today of just 4.44, which is 17th-highest on the day. There are so many solid spots on this slate that the Red Sox are just an average offense.

The move to the Twins has not exactly been successful for Santiago. Over his last 30 days, he has a 6.03 SIERA (4.55 ERA) and a low 13.3 percent strikeout rate. There is no reason to spend a roster spot on Santiago who is struggling mightily.

Shields has been a guy we have loved to see on the schedule all year. He has been horrible and has put up a ridiculously high 5.16 SIERA and low 16.1 percent strikeout rate. He has been a whole lot better as of late, as he has put up three quality starts in his last four and has struck out 24 batters over a 23.1 inning span. Still, I am not exactly sure we can trust him, even in a decent matchup against the Twins today.

Shields has allowed a .375+ wOBA to batters from both sides of the plate. The Twins have a projected run total of 4.41 runs, which is the 13th-lowest run total of the entire slate. They are a decent offense to target, but the White Sox may look like the better offense in this matchup.
