Colon keeps trucking along this year and has been very solid for the Mets as he sports a 3.22 ERA. But for DFS, he does not give a ton of upside due to his very low 15.8% strikeout rate. The matchup tonight makes him playable, as he takes on the Braves who continue to be ranked in the back end of the league in offense against right-handed pitching. He is in play as an SP2 tonight at a cheap price.

Gant’s play has actually been a bit better than his ERA would suggest. His SIERA sits about a full run lower than his 4.70 ERA and has had a decent strikeout rate of 23.4% after his first five starts. He gets a decent matchup today against the Mets, who strike out a lot and are 24th in the league in team wOBA against righties. He is a boom-or-bust play today and could be used as a risky SP2 for tournaments.
Batter Grind Down
NY Mets
The Mets do have some bats that we can use against Gant today in the front of the lineup with guys like Reyes and Asdrubal Cabrera (if batting second) who are cheap at FD. Other than them, it is tough to pay up for their bats on a night with some offenses in way better spots.

If you do want to attack Colon, the left side of the plate is where to do it, as he has kept righties at bay (.269 wOBA allowed), but lefties have gotten to him for a .333 wOBA. This puts Freddie Freeman and Ender Inciarte in play tonight.

Anderson comes into this game in better form, as he has a 3.47 ERA in the last 30 days (4.32 SIERA). His season-long strikeout rate of 18.8% does not give him enough upside to warrant a play against a tough Cardinals offense ranked fourth in team wOBA and second in ISO against righties.

Waino has been pretty inconsistent this year, which has resulted in a 6.12 ERA over the last 30 days and a season long SIERA of 4.24. With that said, he has been solid against the Brewers in two starts (.64 ERA and 12 strikeouts), as they are a great play for him as they strike out often (25.6% clip), and are not a high-powered offense. He is a risky play and is a little more expensive than I would like to play, but could be used for tournaments.
Batter Grind Down
Milwaukee
Wainwright has allowed a .347 wOBA to lefties on the year, and the Brewers have a couple decent lefty bats that should be hitting high up in the order. Other than guys like Villar and Gennett, I will be looking for bats in other places.

Attacking Anderson should be done from the right side of the plate. He has some extreme reverse splits this year as he has allowed a .395 wOBA to righties, while keeping lefties to a .299 wOBA. The Cards have the fourth-highest projected run total tonight and are in play in all formats.

Cueto takes the mound tonight and has had a solid season for the Giants. He holds a 3.69 SIERA (2.92 ERA) to go along with a decent 21.9% strikeout rate. He pitches tonight in a hitter’s park against a Diamondbacks offense ranked in the bottom third against righties. He makes a decent play, but I would rather pay up for Scherzer or take Hill at a similar price.

Bradley’s numbers look pretty bad as we see a lot of red boxes in his summary above. He holds a ERA and SIERA closing in on five runs and his strikeout rate of 21.1% isn’t high enough to give us enough upside to ignore his struggles. His command has been an issue this year (10.7% BB) and now faces a team that strikes out at a very low 17.5% clip. Avoid Bradley tonight.

Lefties are in play tonight, as Bradley has struggled mightily to them on the season as he has allowed a wOBA of .397. The Giants don’t have a huge run total, but they make solid plays tonight for cash games with guys like Span and Pagan not being priced too high but both likely to get on base tonight.

It is hard to love much of the Diamonbacks offense tonight against a righty pitcher, as they have struggled against them for most of the year. The one guy always in play is Paul Goldschmidt who continues to mash everything.

Gray has seen some bad luck lately, as his SIERA sits a full run and a half lower than his ERA over the last month of play. He is always someone to consider, as his strikeout rate has sat around 25% for the season, and that rings true again tonight. He gets a great matchup, as he gets to pitch in a pitcher’s park today in San Diego and against a very poor pitcher who he should see some run support against. He is prices quite high at DK, but is just right at FD tonight.

Friedrich is someone we can attack from either side of the plate, as he has allowed a wOBA of .304+ to both righties and lefties. This game does not have a huge total, but it is tough to ignore Nolan Arenado against a poor lefty.

Hamels has struggled a bit lately, but his SIERA has stayed low at just 3.92 over the last 30. His strikeout rate of 23.6% puts him in play in the majority of matchups and tonight’s is a decent one to use him in. He takes on the Angels who are a middle-of-the-road offense and have a projected run total of under four runs tonight. While I like Hill and Scherzer a bit better, there is not problem with Hamels tonight.

Wright has made four appearances and two starts this year, which all happened in early June/late May. He was awful in that short span, as he put up an ERA over seven runs. He is an easy avoid tonight against a solid Rangers offense.

This Rangers offense will be licking their chops to get at the young pitcher early, as he has never pitched more than six innings in any big league ball game. His minor league numbers were nothing great either, which puts all the top guys in play today against the righty.
