Carlos Martinez: Pitching as a whole on this slate today is a bit on the weaker side in my opinion, and Martinez comes in as one of the top options on the board. He is coming off of a 13-strikeout game, which was a new career high. In his last three starts, Martinez has allowed just 11 hits and three runs while pitching no fewer than six innings. With his current form, I really like Martinez today, even in a hitter’s park such as this.

Tim Adleman: The strikeout potential for Adleman just is not where you need it to be if we were to consider using him in our lineups today. Not only that, but he has yet to pitch more than six innings in a game, leaving us with relatively no upside when you factor both of those things together. I do not think he is a terrible pitcher overall, but his game does not translate to fantasy success at this point, and you can safely fade him here today.

St. Louis
Cardinals: Saint Louis somehow continues to post pretty solid numbers as a team, hanging out near the top of the league against right-handed pitching for the entire season. With that said, I do no think we have to go crazy, as the lineup has been far more inconsistent lately as opposed to the beginning of the season. Randal Grichuk is a bat that not a lot of people are talking about right now who could provide you with a pretty solid chunk of fantasy points if he continues to square up the ball.

Reds: Believe it or not, the Reds have not been all that bad in the second half with a top-five wOBA. The thing is, they find themselves in a tough matchup with Carlos Martinez who has looked a whole lot better in his past few starts. I am not saying we need to fade them completely if you are not using Martinez today – just do not go crazy with exposure.

J.A. Happ: This game has two of the top overall pitching options facing off against each other, with Happ and company in Tampa to take on Chris Archer. It has been somewhat of a magical season for Happ, who has seventeen wins on the season to this point. The issue I have is that he is starting to get hit a little harder lately, surrendering five home runs in his last three starts. It was only four starts ago that Happ was able to shut down this Rays lineup, so the potential is certainly there, but I have some reservations with him today.

Chris Archer: Archer has continued to strike out batters at a high rate all season, but the more encouraging thing is that he is also starting to become more consistent, keeping his opponents from crossing the plate. Even though Toronto is a high-upside team offensively due to the power in the bats, we can roster Archer today knowing that they also strikeout at a higher rate, which mitigates some of that risk. If he can keep the ball inside the fences today, we should have a pretty solid result for Archer today.

Blue Jays: There is no question that this Toronto lineup can hit for power, but with a tough matchup against Chris Archer who looks a heck of a lot better recently, it is hard to get too excited about their chances to provide a ton of fantasy goodness today. If anything, they make for a solid tournament play if you are multi entering as the ownership should be low.

Rays: The Rays were pretty solid in the month of August but come into today with a projected lineup that looks as though it has been stabbed with more red than anything. With a lefty on the hill for Toronto, we can look to guys like Evan Longoria and Logan Forsythe, who both hit southpaws very well but outside of that we are limited.

Reynaldo Lopez: Talk about a hard pitcher to read. Lopez has gone seven innings in two of his five starts with an 11-strikeout game but has also failed to get through five innings in the other three games. He is all over the place statistically, making him one of the least predictable options on the board. His price and matchup are the main reason you consider him tonight, but just know there is plenty of risk here.

Seth Lugo: Since moving to the rotation, Lugo has been very solid for the Mets, picking up two wins in three starts and allowing a total of five runs. The problem is that his strikeout numbers are not that great and his xFIP suggest we should see some slight regression as well. With a tough matchup tonight, I have little interest in him for my fantasy lineups.

Nationals: This Washington team can be a scary group when they are all hitting at the same time as has been the case outside of a couple bats lately. Despite a lower projected run total, I have no problem with loading up with Nats as a solid tournament stack tonight. Even in a scenario where we are using pieces of this lineup as filler, we have options with guys like Trea Turner and Daniel Murphy.

NY Mets
Mets: New York has the lowest projected run total on the day but still has a few viable fantasy options. Yoenis Cespedes has clear upside in this matchup today, but do not forget about guys like Jay Bruce and Curtis Granderson, who can give you points in a hurry as well.

Julio Teheran: It had been rough for Teheran in his first two starts off of the disabled list, but he bounced back quite nicely in his third against the Padres, going seven innings while striking out eight San Diego bats and surrendering just two earned on his way to the win. This is a great matchup for Teheran, and I am very interested to see just how much people trust him today. In my opinion, he should be slightly higher in the pitcher rank if you want to know where I stand in terms of his potential for a big fantasy game.

Jake Thompson: An all red pitching chart is generally not a good thing, and with a full slate of games to choose from there is really no reason to risk it with Thompson today. He did have a solid start last time out against the Nationals but even in that game the strikeouts were limited meaning little to no upside.

Braves: It is not too often that I like this Atlanta offense, but today I feel like we can roster a number of Braves and feel pretty good about it. Thompson has a 5.75 xFIP through his first five starts, and there is potential for runs to be had the key will be finding the players with upside.

Phillies: Philadelphia never has been able to get a consistent stretch of offense going this season and the projected lineup has quite a bit of red in it today. Facing a tough pitcher that I like as one of the top options, there really is not much here for me and I will pretty much fade the Phillies.

Chase Anderson: In his last start, Anderson was cruising right along against this same Pirates squad before a couple of solo shots ultimately did him in during the fifth inning. All things considered, he looked pretty good on the mound in that game, but we have seen Anderson’s strikeout numbers fluctuate far too much to feel confident with his upside today.

Steven Brault: I like to pick on the Brewers as much as anyone but typically stick to right-handed pitchers as Milwaukee has a few bats in the lineup that can hurt southpaws in a hurry. Brault held his own two starts ago in Milwaukee, going six innings and surrendering three runs. Even so, he offers too little in the way of strikeouts to make up for the risk of the Brewers getting to him in this one.

Brewers: When we talk about underrated teams on this slate, I feel like the projected run total does not do the Brewers justice here. Milwaukee is actually quite good against left-handed pitching, and it is Ryan Braun and Chris Carter who pack the biggest punch with Jonathan Villar and Keon Broxton as very solid compliments to them.

Pirates: What a disappointing bunch this group has been. The talent is here for offense to occur – it has just been a lack of execution for much of the season that has the Pirates ranked near the bottom of the league in key statistical categories. Anderson is a guy we should be able to plug in some hitters against, but finding a Pirates hitter you trust can be difficult.
