Quintana may be having a nice season and may have had a great outing against the Red Sox last night. However, I do not target pitchers against the Red Sox in general, especially when the game is being played in Fenway Park. Their bats have been cold over the last few games, but they still own the best offense in baseball. There is more risk than potential reward tonight with Quintana.

Rodriguez has not pitched well this season, posting a 5.79 SIERA with a strikeout rate of only 12.9% this season. He has walked too many batters and he has given up way too many fly balls. The White Sox may not be one of the best offenses in baseball, but they should be able to find some success against Rodriguez in the hitter-friendly Fenway Park.

The Red Sox don’t have a great matchup on paper, but they come into tonight’s game with the fourth highest team total on the board. They typically hit tough pitching well (with the exception of last night) and they are always a force to be reckoned with at home. Archer just can’t seem to catch a break this season. All of his peripheral statistics look good, yet he has a disappointing 4.60 ERA. The good news is that the earned runs that he has given up has led to a lower price tag across the industry. If this game was being played in Tampa Bay, I would be all over Archer tonight. However, he is listed as a small underdog against an Indians’ offense that is ranked inside the top ten in team wOBA and team ISO against right-handed pitching this season. Archer is in play, but I prefer or .

Bauer has been a decent pitcher over the last couple of seasons. In his first ten starts of the year, he has a 4.04 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 21.8%. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Rays, who are ranked 29th in team K% against right-handed pitching this season. Even though edges him out in the pitcher rankings, I slightly prefer Bauer over him in cash games tonight.

Morgan has a decent strikeout rate, but that’s about all he has going for him. On the season, he has a 4.30 SIERA (6.49 ERA) with a strikeout rate of 18.9%. He is an extreme fly ball pitcher that gives up a lot of hard contact. The Twins are usually a team that we can pick on, but that’s not the case tonight. Morgan is a huge underdog in this game and the total is set at 9.0 runs.

Gibson induces a lot of ground balls, but that’s about it. In six starts this season, he has a 5.32 SIERA with a strikeout rate of only 11.5% and a walk rate of 10.1%. He is listed as a sizable favorite tonight against the Phillies, but you have to be concerned about his upside. If you need a cheap win from your pitcher, you could look to Gibson, but I will be avoiding both of these pitchers in what should be a high scoring game.

The Phillies are one of the worst offenses in baseball, but you wouldn’t know that from watching them last night. They currently have the seventh lowest team total in the evening slate, but their matchup against isn’t terrible. Over the last two seasons, Gibson has allowed a .320 wOBA to left-handed hitters.

If you saw the score of the game last night, you might have thought it was a football game between the Eagles and Vikings. Ross is having another nice season for the Nationals, posting a 4.15 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 20.5%. The biggest concern that I have with Ross tonight is that he may have to face five or six left-handed hitters. That’s not ideal for Ross because he has given up a .346 wOBA to lefties over the last two seasons.

Urias is showing why he is one of the top pitching prospects in baseball. The 19-year old seems to be getting better with each and every start. In his first five major league outings, he has a 3.25 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 29.9%. The only knock on Urias is that he hasn’t thrown more than 86 pitches in any start this season. We shouldn’t expect that to change tonight, but five or six innings should be more than enough for him to rack up some strikeouts.
