Nelson has been downright awful this year. He should be on no one’s radar tonight, as he comes into this game with a bad 4.87 SIERA and low 17.1% strikeout rate. If you want to play him tonight, you may just be tossing your money away.

Nova was traded from the Yankees to the Pirates, and leaving the AL East to pitch in National League ballparks has done wonders for him. Since his switch he has put up a 2.87 ERA (3.66 SIERA) to go along with a below average 18.2% strikeout rate. That low rate could be helped today by the matchup against the Brewers who strikeout at a 25.8% clip, which is the highest rate in the league against righties. Nova is a good play at FanDuel tonight, while being a bit highly priced at DK.
Batter Grind Down
Milwaukee
The Brewers have a low 3.79 total today against the rejuvenated Nova, which is seventh lowest on the day. They are not an offense to target on a night with enough teams in great spots.

Sabathia went from a pitcher to completely pick on every time he took the mound last year to someone we pick and choose our spots against. He comes into this game with a 4.37 ERA (4.37 SIERA) with a 20.1% strikeout rate. He is someone that is tough to use even in the best matchups. The Orioles are surprisingly still in the bottom third of the league against lefties, yet Vegas thinks they will get to CC today, making him a tough guy to target tonight.

Gausman continues to chug along this year and is coming off his best month of the year. In August, he put up a 3.61 SIERA (2.45 ERA) to go along with an elite 27% strikeout rate. He now faces a Yankees squad that he has dominated this year (27.2 innings/3 earned runs/24 strikeouts). He makes a solid play tonight for his 8k price across the industry.
Batter Grind Down
NY Yankees
Gausman has been a reverse splits pitcher this year, as he has kept lefties at bay, but has struggled against righties, allowing a .361 wOBA to them on the year. The Yankees are right in the middle of the totals for today at 4.27, making them more of a one off offense if you want to play anyone.

Baltimore
Baltimore is a decent favorite today against the Yankees and have the sixth-highest run total of the day at 4.73 runs. Sabathia has not been as terrible against righties this year as he has in years past, but still has allowed a .316 to them on the year. The home run potential is high across the board for the Orioles.

As great as the pitching matchup was in the first game of the day, this may be the exact opposite as we have two struggling pitchers. Santiago has been awful for the Twins with an 8.17 ERA (5.72 SIERA) in the last month. Move on.

The Sox are in a decent spot today as this game has a 10-run total. Santiago has struggled against both sides of the plate, as he has allowed a .337+ wOBA to batters from both sides of the plate. This game will be popular from both sides and should be very high scoring.

Shields is an easy target tonight, as he has allowed a .368 wOBA to lefties and .391 wOBA to righties. The Twins have the highest total not at Coors today, making them a great offense to target in all formats.

JoFer takes the mound tonight for the Marlins, as he is coming of two solid scoreless starts and 15 strikeouts combined. He is second in the majors in Ks and sports a solid 2.79 ERA on the season. He is a top play in any format tonight with a concern being the number of pitches the Marlins let him throw down the stretch. It hasn’t been a problem lately as he is coming of 113 and 111 pitches in those last two starts. He gets a tough matchup against the Indians today, who rank fifth in wOBA and seventh in ISO against righties, but Vegas has this as one of the small totals of the day and the Marlins are slightly favored. Fernandez is in play in all formats as the top option of the night slate. The only question is if you want to pay the price against a tough offense.

Bauer has been decent this season for the Indians. He has a 4.25 SIERA on the year and 20.8% strikeout rate. The numbers do not jump off the page, but they are not going to kill your fantasy squad either. He has a decent matchup against the Marlins, who are a below average offense. While run support may be tough today, Bauer could be used as an SP2.
Batter Grind Down
Miami
Bauer has kept batters from both sides of the plate to a wOBA under .305 from both sides of the plate this year. The Marlins have a low total of 3.82, and with all the other offenses today with high totals, this game is an easy one to avoid for batters.

Roark is a pitcher that we continue to wait for the regression. His season long SIERA is a run and half higher than his ERA and that continues to ring true for the last month, where his SIERA (4.96) is over two runs higher than his ERA (2.56). His strikeout rate has dropped to 16.4% over the last six starts as well. There are too many warning signs for Roark tonight, but he is a decent favorite in a game with a low total. He is in play, but with some risk.

Gsellman made his first start last week, as he went six innings and gave up four earned runs and five strikeouts. He is not exactly a safe play tonight, but his price is almost at minimum prices across the industry tonight, making him a longshot GPP play.
