This game isn’t going to be included in the main slate, but since it is included in the all-day slate, I figured that I should break it down just in case. Bettis has a decent strikeout rate of 19.5%, but is otherwise a below-average pitcher. He walks too many batters and he gives up a 32.2% hard hit rate. He is an easy avoid against the Cubs, who may have the best offense in the entire National League.

Hendricks is making his second start of the season. He has really pitched well since the start of 2015, posting a 3.36 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 22.5% and a ground ball rate of 51.6%. He is the biggest pitching favorite on the board today and he draws a favorable matchup against the Rockies, who are a much different offense away from Coors Field. When you factor in salaries, Hendricks should be considered a top five pitching option in the all-day slate.

The Rockies have the second lowest team total of the 30 teams that are in action today. It’s strange how much a ballpark can impact production, as the Rockies went from one of the top offenses to target to one of the worst offenses to target in a span of only one day. has struggled with left-handed hitters in the past, but and are both overpriced.

Nelson has flashed some upside, but is still a risky fantasy option. He has too many bad outings to be considered a cash game option in DFS. Since the start of last season, he has a 4.08 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 20%. He comes into tonight’s game as a sizable underdogs against the Pirates, who are ranked 12th in team wOBA against right-handed pitching.

Locke may be a favorite tonight and he may be pitching at home in a tough park for offensive production, but he doesn’t fit the mold of the type of pitcher that we are looking for in DFS. Since the start of last season, he has a 4.23 SIERA with a strikeout rate of only 17.1%. He does see a nice matchup boost against the Brewers though, and his price on FanDuel is awfully tempting ($5,800). He is cheap enough that he can be considered in GPPs.

Karns had a breakout season for the Rays in 2015, posting a 3.87 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 23.5%. He did walk a lot of batters though and his 34% hard hit rate is a bit troublesome. I expect him to regress a bit this season, although there will be times for us to target him in DFS. As for his matchup tonight, the Yankees hit right-handed pitching well and they are ranked in the bottom half of the majors in strikeouts. The risk outweighs the potential reward for Karns tonight in Yankee Stadium.

Severino didn’t get off to the best start this season, but he is looking to build on his incredible rookie season in 2015 where he posted a 3.72 SIERA and a strikeout rate of 21.9%. Like , he does have command issues, but we always like to see pitchers that have ground ball rates above 50%. He draws a pretty favorable matchup tonight against the Mariners, who have the fifth highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. Severino is not in the same grouping as the aces on the mound tonight, but I don’t mind looking his way in GPPs.

Hellickson has had two serviceable starts this season, but it’s hard to get too excited about a pitcher that has had a 4.68 ERA over the last three years. Perez is making his second start of the season. He was a pitcher that we liked to target hitters against last year. Since the start of 2015, he has a 4.91 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 14.4% and a walk rate of 10.1%. He does produce a lot of ground balls, but the upside just isn’t there with Perez. Even in a favorable matchup against the Marlins in a pitcher-friendly ballpark, he should be avoided in all league formats.

Chen was one of my favorite sleepers heading into the season. The move to the National League should make a big impact, especially since he came from the tough American League East. He now has a massive ballpark behind him. Chen is a large favorite tonight against the Braves, who have only scored 24 runs all season. If you are playing on single pitcher sites, it’s hard to get away from in cash games. However, Chen is a great play on multi-pitcher sites and as a GPP play on single-pitcher sites.
Batter Grind Down
Atlanta
The Braves’ offense is basically void of power outside of . Chen should be able to attack this offense with the big ballpark behind him. Chen has struggled against right-handed hitters in his career, but I will be avoiding all Braves’ hitters tonight.

Miami
The Marlins have the fourth highest team total on the board tonight. That goes to show the lack of favorable matchups in tonight’s slate. While I don’t love targeting hitters in Marlins Park, there are a number of viable plays on the Marlins tonight. Since the start of last season, has allowed a .376 wOBA to left-handed hitters and a .325 wOBA to right-handed hitters.
