We have a single day game on the slate today between the Brewers and Cubs. Anderson will be on the mound for Milwaukee in what has been a disappointing season. In 27 starts, he has a 4.64 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 18.9%. He is a fly ball pitcher that gives up a lot of hard contact. He can be avoided in all leagues against a talented Cubs’ offense in Wrigley.

Lackey is a large favorite today and he finds himself in one of the best matchups on the board. The Brewers are currently ranked 22nd in team wOBA and 30th in team ISO against right-handed pitching and he gets to face them at home. Lackey still owns an above-average strikeout rate and he should see plenty of run support with Chase Anderson pitching opposite him.
Batter Grind Down
Milwaukee
The Brewers have been a sneaky offense to target against left-handed pitching, but they have not fared well against righties. They come into tonight’s game with the fourth lowest implied team total in the slate. They can be avoided against John Lackey, who has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .300 wOBA.

Chicago Cubs
The Cubs don’t have as good of numbers as you would expect against right-handed pitching, but the top of their lineup really hits righties well. The Cubs come into the game with the 11th highest run projection in the slate, as they take on Chase Anderson. On the season, he has allowed a .391 wOBA and a ridiculous 40.6% hard contact rate to right-handed hitters.

Koehler has not pitched well on the road in the last couple of seasons, posting a 4.52 ERA with a strikeout rate of only 16%. While he appears to be a good play on paper, the Phillies have the right lineup to fare well against Koehler. They have a number of left-handed hitters and Koehler has to face them in Philadelphia. In this full slate, there are better plays for both cash games and tournaments.

Morgan is always one of my favorite pitchers to target hitters against. In 2016, he has a 5.73 ERA with a strikeout rate under 20%. He is a fly ball pitcher that has allowed a 35.8% hard contact rate this season. While the Marlins have really been struggling offensively, I expect some runs to be scored in this one. The right-handed hitters in this lineup are in play.

Miami
The Marlins have been one of the worst offenses in baseball against left-handed pitching, but they have a mediocre run projection tonight against Adam Morgan. This is a great matchup for the right-handed hitters, as Morgan has allowed a .381 wOBA and 19 home runs to righties this season.

Archer has really picked up his play in the last month, posting a 2.77 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 31.5% and a walk rate of 5.5%. He draws a boom or bust type of matchup tonight against the Orioles, who are ranked first in team ISO and 20th in team K% against right-handed pitching this season. Archer is a deep GPP play at best tonight. If this game was in Tampa Bay, it would be a different story.

Jimenez has a low ERA over the last month of play, but his peripheral numbers suggest some regression. During that stretch, he has a 5.07 SIERA with a strikeout rate of only 15.8%. He is a fly ball pitcher that struggles with his command. The Rays may not have the most potent offense in baseball, but they do boast the fourth highest team ISO against right-handed pitching this season.

The Rays have quietly been mashing over the last month of play, ranking seventh in team wOBA. They draw an excellent matchup tonight against Yovani Gallardo and they get to face him in the hitter-friendly Camden Yards. In 2016, Gallardo has allowed a .395 wOBA to left-handed hitters.

The Orioles are one of the best offenses in baseball against right-handed pitching, but they draw a difficult matchup tonight against Chris Archer. In addition to an elite strikeout rate, Archer has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .310 wOBA this season. The Orioles are best suited as one-off GPP targets.

Fulmer is having a tremendous rookie season, but his numbers have dipped in his last five starts – 4.10 SIERA with a strikeout rate of only 17.4%. He comes into tonight’s game as a sizable underdog against the Indians on the road. This is a difficult matchup for righties, as the Indians are ranked fifth in team wOBA and seventh in team ISO against right-handed pitching this season.

Kluber has been terrific at home throughout his career. He is a sizable favorite tonight against the Tigers at home. I currently have him ranked as a top three pitching option. While the Tigers hit right-handed pitching well as a team, they have a right-handed heavy lineup. On the season, Kluber has held righties to a .260 wOBA. He makes a strong play in all league formats tonight at home.

The Tigers may be ranked eighth in team wOBA against right-handed pitching, but they are an easy fade tonight in Cleveland. They draw an awful matchup against Corey Kluber, who has held both left and right-handed hitters under a .285 wOBA this season.

Berrios is one of the Twins’ top prospects and many expect him to be the best pitcher in their rotation next season. He has yet to find his footing at the major league level though, posting a 9.18 ERA with a walk rate that is higher than his strikeout rate in his first 11 starts. He should be avoided in all league formats tonight, as he takes on the red-hot Mets.

Colon is one of those pitchers that needs to pick up a win in order to reach and exceed value in daily fantasy. He doesn’t have a lot of strikeout upside, which means he needs to keep his earned runs down. The crazy thing is that he gives up a lot of hard contact, yet he never really seems to get blown up. While I like the Mets’ chances to win this game against the Twins, there isn’t enough upside for Colon to warrant consideration.

The Twins aka the Minnesota Doziers come into tonight’s game with the seventh lowest team total on the board. Their matchup against Bartolo Colon isn’t the problem, it’s the fact that they will be playing in a pitcher-friendly ballpark without the use of a designated hitter. There are better offenses to target in this slate.
